That is NOT what I asked–I asked whether TWO schools from one city had won the championship in the same sport !!! Maryland is NOT in Baltimore! It is in College Park, an hour or so away.

Obviously I need to increase the frequency of my expletive usage.

I guess since even your mom likes to point out your mistakes, you won’t get so mad when we do. After all, we’re all just doing it cause we care.

Mrs. Cole is so cool. I love it.

@Corner Stone:
You know, Cole’s admission that his mom follows this blog is like waving the cape in front of the bull. Especially since she seems to like to dog him a bit.

Pay attention, John! Love your mom. :-)

So true. So very true.

To repeat: it was fucking lacrosse.

At least his mom can feel assured that John is not meeting up with weirdos he has met online when he goes out of town. That sort of thing is very reassuring to a mother. I know I would not want my baby meeting up with a snarling mass of vitriolic jackals.

Well, I guess she told you!

If the question is whether any city besides Baltimore has had two schools win national championships in the same sport, the answer is clearly “yes.” I can think of three immediately: Los Angeles, Washington, and Raleigh.
USC and UCLA have both won national championships in football, women’s basketball, baseball, men’s and women’s volleyball, and men’s tennis.
Georgetown won the D1 men’s basketball championship in 1984, and UDC won the D2 championship in 1982.
NC State has won two D1 championships in men’s basketball, and Shaw is the current D2 champion.
BC and BU’s hockey championships don’t count. BC is in Chestnut Hill.
LaSalle and Villanova’s men’s basketball championships similarly don’t count. Nova is in the burbs.

Well, to be precise, there is UMBaltimore and UMCP.

This threw me for a sec; skimming quickly I didn’t realize it was a sports lesson rather than a geography lesson. :-)

Does anyone else see a broken image graphic between the words “sport” and “Maryland” or is it just me?
Here’s what I see: http://grab.by/dWOQ

@Tim in SF: It’s a gap for me, like she used too many exclamation points or something.

I thought it was Sarah Proud And Tall, and that – surprisingly – every word of her anecdotes was the gospel truth.

I could almost hear the shoe whirling through the air when I read that.

I’m going to pretend that this would be something my Mom and I would have argued. This would be my response to Mom:
Actually, some of Maryland is in Baltimore otherwise Baltimore wouldn’t be in Maryland.
Afterward I would give her an evil grin, then duck and run as she heads over to biff me upside the head.
Hollywood
Harvard and MIT both have national championships in men’s fencing and coed sailing.

Number Three
College Park is “an hour” away from B’more? Not so. Maybe in the most intensive traffic of the rush, but more like 45 minutes, with luck, less.
We live on C…Hill in the DC, and fly outta the BWI reg/like . . . and wouldn’t say “an hour” to get home, by car . . .

I defy you to find Chestnut Hill on a map of Massachusetts towns. It’s the University of Newton.
