Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

No one could have predicted…

“Facilitate” is an active verb, not a weasel word.

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

When they say they are pro-life, they do not mean yours.

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

In my day, never was longer.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

No Kings: Americans standing in the way of bad history saying “Oh, Fuck No!”

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Finding joy where we can, and muddling through where we can’t.

Keep the Immigrants and deport the fascists!

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

I don’t recall signing up for living in a dystopian sci-fi novel.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Too little, too late, ftfnyt. fuck all the way off.

Rupert, come get your orange boy, you petrified old dinosaur turd.

Innocent people do not delay justice.

It is not hopeless, and we are not helpless.

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

OMG, it’s Howard Webb with the whistle!

If anyone can top the howler committed by the Spanish referee in the Poland v. Greece match, it’s the pride of the EFRA. Without a ManU player on the pitch, it’s a puzzle just which team Webb’s decisions will favor.

@Raven: The favorite birthday card I’ve gotten said ‘Blame Your Parents!’ on the cover, and on the inside it said ‘It’s not your fault that you’re so old.”

Speaking of olds, Bob Welsh of mid-period Fleetwood Mac died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound yesterday. He was in his mid 60s and was suffering from severe spinal problems. RIP.

Arshavin’s looking pretty good. Evidently he was saving himself

@gbear: thought the album French Kiss was pretty good. Still sitting on the album bookcase in vinyl form. Sad that he felt that this was his best option.

    35 million to get Arshavin!?

You could have gotten a Brazilian for that!

Impressive display box-to-box from the Russians in the first half. The Czechs have demonstrated pace and flair going forward, but if they have a defensive midfield I’ve yet to see it.

Webb was merciful to the Czechs in not awarding a penalty kick after Arshavin was bundled down in the box.

Bill Murray: You have to think “Back in the USSR” must be Arshavin’s personal anthem.

An entertaining match, if a neutral. Quite an emphatic statement from Russia on its wealth of offensive talent. Pavlyuchenko’s wonderful goal was a determined exercise to convince Dick Advocaat that he should be in the squad’s starting IX.

Credit to the Czechs for sustained effort even with this score line.

The key match for advancement from this group will be on June 16 between the Czech Republic and Poland.

Starting IX? Think how good they’d be if they fielded a full lineup.

I don’t know whether Russia were better than expected, or the Czechs were just a bit rubbish, and perhaps we won’t know for certain until the QFs. This may actually turn out to be the most entertaining group.
