The previous game was pretty even I thought. So both manchego and parmiggiano.

seriously, i just can’t get into this footbol stuff unless its world cup and USA is still viable. Can’t you do something to make it more palatable somehow, Randinho? I want to appreciate the game, i swear i’m trying, but, its just so painful to me…
It certainly doesn’t help that damned near every team seems to play so damned tentatively in the first couple of games of the group phase.
Woohoo! ROI ties it up!

Hate to be a bitch or anything like that, but can one of the other Front Pagers hang up a non-soccer open thread? I don’t want to talk between the soccer folk any more than I’m sure they don’t want to talk around me.

For a country whose economy is in the shitter, the Irish fans have managed to turn out in force.
Bloody hell, that gobshite Tommy Smyth is in the studio. Can’t they find some ice floe off the coast of Greenland to put him on?

… And the Irishmen are 3 – 1 down within five minutes of resuming play. Somehow I don’t fancy their chances today.

Two early second half goals from Croatia and Ireland have a mountain to climb. Looks like they’re going to go all out trying to get a goal or two back ASAP, what have they got to lose?

Ireland are poor; hard to make a judgement on whether Croatia are good enough to give Spain or Italy a scare, given that they’ll need to do more than bang it up to two big head-the-balls.
Between the two matches today, ESPN finally decided to address the violence from some Russia fans, as well as cover the controversial, troubling BBC Panorama profile of Ukraine-Poland as the UEFA choice to host these matches. US viewers can watch the 30-minute documentary “Stadiums of Hate” here.
In other news, poor Ireland!

Uh-oh. Irish keeper Shay Given may have picked up an injury, says the BBC; toward the end of the match, he began leaving the goal kicks to a teammate.

Bill Murray
@Amir Khalid: he had an injury coming in, I think, so it might be that getting worse

So after day one, Croatia leads the Group of Debt.

Ireland had to play more direct because they were eaten alive in the midfield. Luca Modric had an OK game and Croatia still owned the center. I think they can do the same to Italy….Spain and Croatia make it out of the group.

OFFS! Ireland should have had a penalty then.
