If you’re not referring to Van Jones’ address at Netroots Nation, you should be. (TY to whoever posted this in yesterday’s comments.)

Never cared for that song until I saw this version:

I have heard that when one loses that fire it is like a knife, edgy and dull, cutting a 6″ valley through the middle of one’s soul.

@Laertes:
It’s great, right? Especially the way she does the bridge.

How is it that everybody always forgets that solid three-hour conservative/Villager MSNBC block known as Morning Joe?

Wrap myself up and take me home again. Too many heartaches in my lifetime ain’t good for me.
Yutsano
@JenJen: Because of Mika’s surname. That’s it. That’s all it takes to label Morning Ho a liberal show. Because yes they are that lazy.

@Yutsano: I mean, just the other day the panelist for the first two hours was discredited Rumsfeld hack and current Romney employee Dan Senor, who, by the way, wholeheartedly agreed with Joe Scarborough each time he detailed the many ways in which President Obama sucks.
And yet Our Awesome Liberal Media Critics always seem to look past three hours of solidly hacktastic GOP programming every weekday on MSNBC. It just drives me fuckin’ nuts.
Oh, and by the way, that Mediaite piece is about as hacktacular as it gets when it comes to “both sides do it, MSNBC is EXACT SAME THING as Fox News” hackery.

We didn’t start the fire
It was always burning
Since the world’s been turning
We didn’t start the fire
No we didn’t light it
But we tried to fight it

As I just tweeted. Can someone please explain to me why the “HERO” first responders of 911 have suddenly become the “enemy” a mere 11 years after the event? Wingnuts sure have a short memory.

I love Feist and you are right, she makes the song totally new (though I confess to having liked it before)

I forget what I do when I don’t have Mad Men, the only TV show I care about, to look forward to. Maybe it’s time to finally start in on Breaking Bad.

@JenJen: I’m confused by the part where Dylan Ratigan leaving is supposed to be proof of a liberal purity cleansing.

Sorry if this was covered in a previous post, but I noticed the Willard camp doubled down of the firing teachers, cops and firefighters craziness.
I love when the media desperately tries to create a controversy for Obama, only to have Willard come along and shit all over their efforts.

@Litlebritdifrnt:
For the same reason that “Support the Troops” means putting a bumper sticker on your car, not providing them with body armor or decent medical care for the life changing wounds they suffered in the line of duty. Heroes are only worth something when they stay silent and allow their images to be used by demagogues. The moment they stand up and start asking for anything more, they’re just another obstacle.
The Dangerman
@Litlebritdifrnt:
It’s only two questions:
(1) Are they Union?
(2) Are they paid through a public entity through tax dollars?
If yes to either, no longer “HERO”. If yes to both, now they are “ENEMY”.
ETA: Just wait until Romney loses for the postmortem fun to begin; at best, the Right lurches further to the Right, at worst, random gunfire
JenJen
@Sentient Puddle: Right? I’m confused by the entire premise of the article. Dylan Ratigan always struck me as not-so-political to begin with, but outside of coming from the finance world I never thought of him as particularly conservative. I just thought his show basically sucked, is all.
Southern Beale
Ed Schultz and Sean Hannity both want Media Matters to stop with the advertiser boycotts. Guess that means they’ve been effective.

@Litlebritdifrnt:
because police, firefighting should be replaced by vouchers for private companies that can offer the same services better and more efficiently. Just like private schools do and how the Republicans plan to deal with Medicare. I like to call it GruoponGovernance.
David Koch
@JenJen: Oh, wait a minute!
They FINALLY got rid of the wacky Dylan Ratigan show!
WOOOO FUCKING HOOOOO!
It was completely convoluted.
He would ramble on like some hobo at Yawkey Way.
Hill Dweller
@JenJen: Ratigan always struck me as a charlatan. He was one of the Wall Street whores at CNBC for years, but never seemed to say much about the shady dealings on, nor the oncoming collapse of, Wall Street. Well after the fact he starts railing about it, and blaming people for not hammering the industry he helped strengthen.
It reminds me a lot of David Gregory. That hack completely abdicated his responsibilities as a journalist during the run up of the Iraq war, but started grandstanding in the press room well after the fact, which earned him a Sunday morning gig.
Hill Dweller
@David Koch: Dollars to donuts he has a drinking problem. I saw him on Maddow’s show a couple months ago, looking drunk and rambling like a madman.
David Koch
MSNBC needs to give the time slot to Krystal Ball and Steve Kornacki. They’re really good.
David Koch
@Hill Dweller: It was incomprehensible how a major network (NBC) would run a completely incoherent show. It was like trying to decode Japanese naval ciphers.

I’m constantly amazed at how the “conventional wisdom” is so often divorced from reality. For the past couple of days, I’ve been reading from multiple sources that Obama has been having a terrible week, that his “gaffes” are starting to build up, etc., etc. Yet, I also check Gallup’s rolling polling averages, which today has Obama at 50/44 favorability, his highest mark since June of 2011.
JenJen
@David Koch: @Hill Dweller: Totally agree with the assessment that Dylan “Money Party” Ratigan may have a drinking problem. I’m a bit of a trained professional in these matters but would hate to pull a Frist and diagnose him through the TV; still, let’s just say I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see him on Semi-Celebrity Rehab in the near future.
He’s completely erratic. Sometimes his hair looks quite disheveled. He rarely makes sense. His ideas for fixing the country are convoluted and completely impossible to attain. He seems shockingly removed from our political system, however broken, for an MSNBC host. His show is awful and it’s a wonderful, wonderful thing that he’s going away. I understand they’re moving Martin Bashir into his time slot, which is OK, but I’d really love to see Bashir in primetime, myself.
All that being said, it still cracks me up that those wizards over at Mediaite think that sending Ratigan off into the sunset means that the transition to full-blown Dirty Fucking Hippie Channel for MSNBC is at last complete. For chrissakes, the panelist sitting across from Joe Scarborough this morning was none other than Nicolle Wallace, ex of the failed McCain campaign. Would you be surprised to learn that she thinks Obama sucks? Sucks, sucks, sucks, I tell you. Sucky.

I had not seen that one – I only know her acoustic version, slowed down and converted to 3/4 time.

@Ed in NJ: Exactly. In addition, I read this last week on Gallup’s site:
Less Than Half in U.S. See Friday’s Jobs Report as Negative
And yet we’ve been hearing ever since the last Jobs Report came out that the President’s reelection chances are DOOMED, DOOMED I SAY.
It reminds me of watching the pundits after each 2008 Presidential Debate. They would to a person declare either a draw or GOOD FOR MCCAIN but when they went to the instant polling, Obama won every debate handily in the eyes of the voters who watched.

True story.
Got in a taxi today. Found myself sharing the back seat with a pair of very relaxed kittehs: a gray tabby and an orange one. (Not sure if the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board is okay with this kind of thing. I did ask the cabbie why his pets were riding with him, but I don’t think he quite heard my question.) Once I’d introduced myself by letting them sniff my hand, the kittehs were quite happy to accept skritches from me. Best cab ride ever.
Yutsano
@Amir Khalid: Sounds like an interesting sales pitch. I doubt the driver would let them back there if they weren’t friendly kittehs.

@Ed in NJ:
Maybe Obama should keep fucking up! 50!!! I’m pretty sure he got it that high in early may sayiing Bin Laden a gazillion times. On 5/3 51% & on 5/4 50%. Then 49 & 48’s.
