I think I prefer my Olomooks on the syrecky side though perhaps it would be worth trying rokpol. As for the head-tire, pfui, I’ll go with the spicy one. So I guess its the Czechs and Russians for me?
Game 3 of these mini-groups often turns into a weird kind of knockout. But this is very strange, if I understand it right: As is, both Russia and Greece go through, but one goal for the Czech Republic or Poland and Russia is out. I’m not really rooting for any of them, but come to think of it let’s have the half-hosts and Greece deserves the pick-me-up.
Greece and the Czech Republic go through. Who’d have predicted that?

The Czech Republic finish on top of Group A with a goal difference of minus 1. Greece, who started the evening at the bottom of Group A, are in the quarterfinals; Russia, who were at the top of Group A, are out. Weird.

Well, well, well. That’s hurt a few brackets, including mine, even though I didn’t see any of Group A getting past the quarter finals. The UEFA tiebreaker rule on head-to-head was what got the Greeks through; the FIFA tiebreaker of goal difference would have given second place to Russia.
Oh my: Germany-Greece in the quarters? That’d be heavy with symbolism.

Holy, moly cow.
There are going to be some drunken people(s) tonight.
That’s what I figured. I nearly went to ask someone to check for it on one of Doug’s posts that dropped right around starting time…But I didn’t.
What got me is that when it did pop up, it did so in the time-slot for which you scheduled it, so I think I missed it because I was expecting it to publish at the top of the front page.
A preemptive comment on Sunday’s Group B final matches. By the time Randinho’s open thread on it appears, I will be among the Oranje army of supporters at its bivouac in NYC, the Times Square sports bar, Tonic.
For me the most compelling element of today’s contests is whether Arjen Robben or Cristiano Ronaldo, both among the world’s best players but suffering diabolical Euro2012 performances, will redeem his reputation. Pitted against each other in a match that will advance either Holland or Portugal to the QFs, the battle between these titanic talents and egos should be transfixing.
After yesterday’s shocking results in Group A (Poland’s stagnant performance at home in a match of such significance and, even more, the failure of the sleek Russian offense to score against a hardly impressive Greece), one might well expect that both Denmark and the Netherlands (among the pre-tournament favorites but hugely disappointing thus far) will be victorious this afternoon. (That said, I do favor Germany and anticipate that Portugal (on goal differential) will go through.)

Okay, this thread kinda snuck in there, didn’t it?
I’ve been watching the Czechs and the Poles, so I just noticed that Greece scored. Hmmmm…
As I think I said on Tuesday, this is the Group of Pain. I don’t think any of these teams is deserving of a slot in the knock-out phase.

And the Czechs take the lead!
Amir Khalid
@Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again):
And now Russia are in danger of elimination. Russia, who were leading the group before the evening’s kickoffs.
lol chikinburd
Can they just eliminate this entire group?
Not that it’ll matter. Two Group B semifinalists now seems a certainty.

@Amir Khalid:
Good. Russia is the one team I’ve been rooting against. I’m not even rooting against Italy, as I usually do.
Amir Khalid
Greece are parking the bus in front of goal to ride out the last few minutes. (Did I just mix a metaphor here?)
Ronnie Pudding
I want Greece to face and beat Germany later in the tournament.
Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again)
Wow…What a save by whomever that Czech player was…Right at the death of it…
Randinho
@Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again): As I may have mentioned before, the advance posting function is buggy. I was away from internet access for a while.

BTW, don’t take this as me being upset. I know that these things get goofy.

And since I’ve got YouTube opened up, this. RIP, you beautiful, crazy SOB.

@pseudonymous in nc: Germany vs. Greece will be fascinating. ΟΠΑ!!
Randinho
@Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again): Yeah, for some reason if it misses the schedule, I then go into edit the schedule and don’t change anything, click ok and then it enables to publish.
