Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Let there be snark.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the GOP

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

John Fetterman: Too Manly for Pennsylvania.  Paid for by the Oz for Senator campaign.

“Squeaker” McCarthy

This really is a full service blog.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

I’m pretty sure there’s only one Jack Smith.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Bark louder, little dog.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

A Senator Walker would be an insult to the state and the nation.

Just got back from the big city, and checked my favorite wingnut’s yard sign to see what the current teahadist beef du jour was:

The obstructed part says “O.M.G.”

Apparently, it’s the same thing that has been bothering them since 2008- B-Rock ‘The Islamic Shock’ Hussein Superallah Obama.

I cannot see through the weeds, but I think that sign is uncivil, not fit for a family blog like this.

Speaking of which: My Little Pony, Friendship Is Magic club. One post a week. Check it out. The BJ hordes demand it.

Edit: SPaT would be great as a host.

Read this too quick. I thought it said something ending with ‘M. A.’ for ‘my ass’.

One of the first things that comes to my mind when I think of the 2008 election was a clip of an interview bearded WV gent who explain his choice with (paraphrase)

“Aih figure the white man been keep the black man down fer years an’ years. Now, we ayleck a black man, they’ll a jess get on top and do that to uss.”

Admirable stirrings of class consciousness there, but somehow, went of the rails along the way.

Edit: If this sign is from a brave WV Obama supporter out in the sticks, good on them. Glad to see it.

I think the sign is indicative of the Republican party. Weedy sinking into the muck, and off kilter. Plus OMG Dems backing Obama! Call Brietbart, and O’Keefe to do in depth investigation. The weeds are democrat (not democratic of course) plants! Drudge siren!!!!

There’s a guy who owns property in Indiana along I94 (and US 20 before I94 was built) who has had a hand painted sign saying “U.S. OUT OF U.N!” since at least the early 1960s. He would touch up that black paint on white background piece of plywood every few years, as needed.

Last year I drove down that stretch of highway and his hand painted sign was replaced with a multi-colored full blown professionally produced billboard that had an eagle, a flag, and a copy of the constitution. It said “Get the U.S. OUT OF THE U.N.”

And it had the web address for the John Birch Society.

So I guess persistence paid off for that bagger. He got a free sign out of it.

Speaking of rednecks…Utah appears to be on fire as a result of target shooting: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57459334/thousands-evacuate-utah-wildfire/

From the article: “Herbert called on shooters to self-regulate, since legislation bars sheriffs from banning firearms.”

Apparently, the Second Amendment guarantees the right to shoot fire in a dry field.

OT – We now have Tropical Storm Debby in the Gulf of Mexico. Could be an interesting mid week next week. Right now Debby’s heading to Texas. That might be a good thing, as a drought buster is more than welcome. Flooding and wind damage is not, however.

According to weather dot com, Debby has winds from 60 to 70 mph. I think that 75 mph is minimum hurricane wind speed. Debby’s gonna have to tighten up some in order to be really destructive but that can happen rather quickly.

    Protect yourselves, folks.

When one travels south from Seattle to Portland, on I-5(actually between Chehalis and Centrailia) there is a wingnut sign featuring Uncle Sam with some pithy right wing tripe, originally erected by a Wingnut who got deferred out of service in WWII.

Fuck that hillbilly, just like I say fuck you to the hillbillies in my state (yes, there are tons of hillbillies in PA). Fuck ’em all.

I’m gonna eat the lovely marinara I just made over some linguini, salad from our garden greens, and black raspberry pie, with raspberries from our bushes. A nice French Pinot noir just to piss the hillbillies off and I’ll be happy. Happier than them, anyway.

    @Linda Featheringill:

I had a driver’s license for several years where I had a huge red splotch on my forehead from a skin issue I was having at the time. I insisted on re-taking the picture at my next renewal but didn’t realize how hot it was in the DMV office, so my current picture has a HUGE white highlight where the flash reflected off the pool of sweat on my forehead.

I gave up and just let them re-use that picture for this renewal lest I end up with something even worse showing up on my forehead wanting to make its modeling debut.

@Litlebritdifrnt: That was actually a good thing you did that before it rained. If you hadn’t, the rain would have just run off on the surface, but since you presoaked it, the rain penetrated the hard dry ground. So relax.

@efgoldman: We had Karros, and he’s an effing idiot. Mike Trout slid into second, head-first, and when the second baseman exhibited signs of some sort of minor discomfort, Karros jumped to the conclusion that he’d been spiked. Not too many players have spikes on their gloves. It turned out he’d twisted something trying to grab the ball on a bad throw.

No, I have a friend there who will vote for him. My mom voted for him in 2008 but she had just moved back. In the years since, it’s possible my Glenn Beck loving relatives have turned her. @Earl:

Earl, that looks VERY familiar. It looks exactly like the sign that some nut has on his property along Hwy 53 between Duluth and Virginia, MN. If it is the same kook, he has had signs that he occasionally updates there for as long as I can remember. I have been mildly tempted to stop and see what the sign says because you can’t read the whole thing at 65 mph and vegetation obscuring the bottom. It’s odd how often wingnuts spend all that time and effort making those signs and then don’t make sure the signs are not easily readable. I thought better of stopping to look at his sign. There was a story in a local paper a few years ago that the guy is pretty cranky and iirc UPS won’t deliver into his yard.
