Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the gop

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

One way or another, he’s a liar.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you do not.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

I don’t recall signing up for living in a dystopian sci-fi novel.

We are learning that “working class” means “white” for way too many people.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

When we show up, we win.

Bark louder, little dog.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

Nothing says ‘pro-life’ like letting children go hungry.

American history and black history cannot be separated.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

My thanks to commentor Lahke, because I like Steven Sondheim even more than I loathe Willard Romney.

And for the Obama Optimists among us, for your FaceSpace Pinterest wallboard tweets, via Matt Taylor at Slate:

Sam Stein at the Huffington Post gets hold of an Obama TV spot airing in key swing states (but unannounced by his campaign) that responds to Republican Super PACs that have been pummeling him with his “the private sector is doing fine” gaffe in their ads

Obama Ad Focuses On Economy

Apart from the ever-popular setting one’s hair on fire, what’s on the agenda for this evening?

So awesome. Thanks for sharing. I will be performing in Sweeney Todd this summer with my daughter. Sondheim is a joy to sing.

I know tt if I’m going to use this old Eddie Murphy standup (bits from Raw and Delirious) in my Comedy as Social Criticism class this fall, I have to watch them again. But they’re so dead and homophobic. I expect my students will freak at seeing The Nutty Professor ranting on and on about AIDS and such.

I’m so glad you front paged that Lahke link. I saw it at the end of a mostly dead thread and loved it, tweeted it, posted it to Facebook and I think I bore it’s first-born. Ron Zimmerman has another pretty funny Romney song that is making fun of Romney’s disharmonic singing of America The Beautiful.

I showed them both to my mother and she’s still giggling abut them.

I also saw a very cool domino crash of Van Gogh’s Starry Nights, you might want to save that for a future day. And some guy was doing Rubic’s cube art of MLK that was pretty neat.

Michelle Obama will be in Memphis on Thursday, and my OFA group is gonna have a rally at the convention center before the event to get folks to sign I’m In cards. I need ideas for cute and funny poster boards.

Also, I was informed I might actually get to meet her, my own little rotten self. My OFA leader asked today for all my personal particulars to turn in to the Chicago Office and the Secret Service. I’m keeping my fingers crossed and will keep y’all informed!

@MikeJ: Not that I know of, but are the whoppers wet or dry? YaknowwhatImean?AndIthinkyoudo. I haven’t seen any ads like that airing here, but they may not attempt to serve them here. We’d know if it was true or not. Then we might even start questioning whether the King really wants a whopper with mayo and ketchup and no mustard, LOL. We’d start questioning their entire premise dude, and then they’d be without an ethos.

Going back to Seattle tomorrow. I got an initial rejection e-mail from my old job but my old boss found out and is gonna knock a few heads for me. As long as they can afford me I’m gonna go for it.

And I’m sitting on some awesome news. But hopefully someone spills it soon. She knows who she is. :)

@Valdivia: Thank you I hope so too, she’s an really admirable human being and fine First Lady. I think I’ll be more usher than hostess, but I’ve been told that she gives as good a speech as POTUS does. So that will be quite cool anyway.

Memphis is a very blue corner & a very poor corner of a very red state, so we don’t get lots of political attention. Mostly what we do get is people flying in for fundraisers, which is what this event is. But because I’ve been working with our local OFA team since last Aug/Sept, I’m as clued in as can be, without being a big dollar contributor, which is why my name was offered up. And I am well pleased.

OK — Here’s the version I wrote and posted on Kos in May (dailykos.com/user/Upper%20West/diaries/2) So far unrecorded. (Mine focuses on the prep school incident.)

Attend the tale of Romney Mitt.
A man devoid of taste or wit.
He roamed the halls with scissors drawn
From past midnight to the next day’s dawn.
He did whatever he saw fit.
Did Romney Mitt. The Demon Barber of Cranbrook.

He led a life of wealth and ease.
He knew the very best height for trees.
It all was grand until one day.
He saw a kid that he thought was gay.
Did Romney. Did Romney Mitt. The Demon Barber of Cranbrook.

    Hold those scissors tight, Willard,
    Cut him down to size.
Trim the locks of all who dare to sodomize.

The deed was done when he was a teen.
It must have been quite the brutal scene.
And though Mitt just forgets it all,
Those friends of his have total recall,
Of Romney. Of Romney Mitt. The Demon Barber of Cranbrook.

Attend the tale of Romney Mitt.
A man devoid of taste or wit.
    Apologies, he will not make.
He’s running for office for goodness sake.
Is Romney. Is Romney Mitt. The Demon Barber of Cran. . . brook.

Also, I hope it gets Roy some more attention. He does a lot of good political stuff: here are two more of my favorites:
