Yutsano
C’mon. You could at least do vinho verde or temperanillo.
Mark S.
I like Portugal for the upset. I’m just tired of watching Spain.
Half back passes to center, back to wing, back to center! Center holds it! Holds it! Holds it!!
chopper
linguiça or chorizo?
or maybe chouriço or chorizo? heh.
Randinho
@Yutsano: I already used vinho verde. It’s dessert wines for the semifinals.
SRW1
Is poor Coentrao contractually obliged to wear those pink color boots?
Leeds man
What’s not to like about the Spanish? Best football, no drama queens, nice colours, nice anthem, and Xabi Alonso looks like a younger Leeds man.
Linnaeus
Port.
SRW1
Lot’s of handiwork by both teams.
Raven
Remind me why we’re not supposed to like this Ronaldo guy?
Leeds man
The Portuguese midfield is doing much better than I expected. Could be a match.
Linnaeus
@Raven:
We aren’t supposed to like Ronaldo? I hadn’t heard that.
Raven
@Linnaeus: oh, good
Linnaeus
Ian Darke is not liking the refereeing much.
Mark S.
This ref sucks.
SRW1
@Linnaeus:
He’s not alone.
Raven
@Linnaeus: He’s not too fired up about his partner in the booth either!
Mark S.
@Raven:
People are just jealous of his hair products.
Hugely
can i choose madeira?
Linnaeus
@Raven:
Those two have an interesting dynamic.
Raven
@Linnaeus: I can barely make out what they are saying. It’s like watching Prime Suspect without subtitles.
Pandemoniac
I don’t care who wins as long as they run roughshod, kill, crush, grind to a messy pulp, annihilate anyone who comes out of the other semi. Germany AND Italy have disrespected the U.S. too often to be forgiven.
Randinho
@Hugely: I don’t know. I’ve been to Porto and the Douro Valley and I haven’t been to Madeira. Porto was my favorite place in Portugal, so I think you’re stuck :-)
Raven
@Randinho:
Well I never been to Spain
But I kinda like the music
Say the ladies are insane there
And they sure know how to use it
They don’t abuse it
Never gonna lose it
I can’t refuse it
Raven
OMG, no sound!
Face
Not a single shot “on goal” from either team the entire half? And y’all wonder why us ‘Merkinz dislike this sport so much.
Randinho
@Raven: Well if you haven’t been, you should go. The Iberian Peninsula in general is one of the most gloriously beautiful places in Europe.

Randinho @ Top:
Port!
.
SRW1
Thar Negredo experiment didn’t work that well. Torres or a fake striker in the second half?
SRW1
Fabregas for Negredo, fake striker it is then.
SRW1
Under what circumstances did Del Bosque envision to use Llorente when he nominated him?
Face
Still no shots on target? Iberian futbol is maddening.
Sad_Dem
Spain, sherry (very dry).
Punchy
Holy card-fest…
Randinho
@SRW1: That’s a good question.
SRW1
That is about Ronaldo’s spot for a free kick.
dollared
I can understand playing conservatively, but couldn’t Spain at least try to get a cheap penalty off Pepe? It’s like they’re not even trying.
SRW1
Spain looks flat, Portugal can’t find the goal. First goal wins it or penalty shoot-out.
Raven
Well fuck this, I’m gonna set the DVR and go to the Farmers Market. Funny but if these clowns were not telling me what a lousy game this is I would have thought it was just another Futbol game!
Raven
@SRW1: Boy that is one hell of an analysis!
SRW1
Something exiting: van Marwijk has thrown in the towel.
peach flavored shampoo
This game is weak sauce.
SRW1
Did I say Portugal can’t find the goal?
J.W. Hamner
This is a seriously boring match. It’s not that I mind nil-nil ties but neither team has even threatened to threaten in the 2nd half.
Randinho
The answer to my first question is still open, but the answer to my second question is a definitive no.
dollared
@Randinho: Your first question: At this point it’s vinagre de Jerez. It’s been sitting out too long.
Paula
@Leeds man:
I think Spain have their fair share of drama queens.
The ones from Barca, anyway.
(And I like Barca! But facts is facts — it ain’t cool when they gotta bum rush referees for a call.)
lol chikinburd
Both these teams deserve these thirty more minutes. In fact, both these teams deserve another thirty more minutes after these.
We certainly don’t, but they do.
J.W. Hamner
Well Spain found a little spirit in the extra time at least.
SRW1
All four Portuguese defenders have been booked already. I smell a red card coming.
Punchy
Where’s the vaunted CRonaldo been?
Valdivia
@Yutsano: Don’t know if you’re still here but wanted to say: so glad you liked that Spanish food site :D now I’m not responsible for indulgences. ;)
J.W. Hamner
Based on how well Spain is playing right now I sorta hope they lose on PK’s because they deserve it for playing with the urgency of a bunch of 8 year olds chasing butterflies for 90 minutes.
Paula
So … all together now … “possession alone does not win matches”.
Valdivia
At least Spain is driving a lot now. Too little too late though.
Leeds man
@Punchy: Where’s the vaunted CRonaldo been?
Practicing his rugby free-kicks, and damn well too.
Onkel Fritze
Let’s go Portugal!
Paula
Italy and Germany have to be like OMG WE’RE WINNING EURO 2012 right about now …
Punchy
2 saves in a row!
SRW1
Spain in a penalty shoot-out. But their second pretty stale affair in a row. The luster is kind of gone and I don’t think their opponent in the final, whether it’s Germany or Italy, will be overawed.
Paula
@Paula:
Whoops, never mind: Germany and Italy are now back to crapping their pants.
J.W. Hamner
Wow… to lose without Ronaldo taking a penalty kick? Yikes.
Onkel Fritze
@Paula: Why?
Paula
@Onkel Fritze:
Spain. Contrary to SRW1 I think Germany in particular is fighting a mental battle over previous losses to Spain. They kind of turned off the flash during that semifinal in WC 2010.
Yutsano
@Valdivia: I eschewed for now. There is no guarantee of that lasting however.
Onkel Fritze
I don’t think so. Spain doesn’t look so impressive this time around. They haven’t been able to prevent their better opponents from challenging their goal and they look weak finishing. They’re really missing David Villa. It’s payback-time now (I’m trying not to forget about Italy, though).
smintheus
That last PK for Portugal shows that when people talk about the need to shoot the ball on goal they really mean shoot it in the goal.
Valdivia
@Yutsano:
I promise to try not to tempt you again! :)
Randinho
@Onkel Fritze: They have still only given up only one goal the entire tournament.
