Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Fundamental belief of white supremacy: white people are presumed innocent, minorities are presumed guilty.

One way or another, he’s a liar.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

You are so fucked. Still, I wish you the best of luck.

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

Nothing says ‘pro-life’ like letting children go hungry.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

If you are still in the gop, you are either an extremist yourself, or in bed with those who are.

Hey hey, RFK, how many kids did you kill today?

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

American history and black history cannot be separated.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Rupert, come get your orange boy, you petrified old dinosaur turd.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

Let me file that under fuck it.

🎶 Those boots were made for mockin’ 🎵

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

This is dead girl, live boy, a goat, two wetsuits and a dildo territory.  oh, and pink furry handcuffs.

In order to lock down his re-election prospects and improve the country in myriad and uncountable ways, President Obama should speak out in favor of breathing.

I posted this in an earlier thread. Someone changed John Roberts Wiki page to read “Chief Traitor of the US”

The media will spin it as a victory for Romney. He’ll frame it as “a government takeover of the respiratory function of the human body,” and then just sit back and watch those poll numbers rise!

    Too subtle.

    He should oppose drinking bleach.

Probably better than my idea of him coming out against dousing yourself with gasoline and lighting yourself on fire. It’s so dry across much of the country that we’d have a real problem with wildfires.

I’ve been saying for 3 years that President Obama needs to make a major speech detailing his belief that breathing and not eating rat poison are two of the most important things citizens can do to make this a better, stronger country.

If the Republicans are going to reflexively oppose every thing the president says, we may as well get something useful out of the deal.

You’re not taking it far enough. If Michelle Obama did a series of PSAs on the dangers of licking live power sockets, the wingnut population in the country would drop by 50% overnight.

They changed it to read “seventeenth Chief Traitor”. These assholes are so dumb they can’t even vandalize Wikipedia right. Even if Roberts were the “Cheif Traitor”, he’d be only the first–or maybe the second, after Earl Warren; but not the seventeenth. Wingnuts are sad.

I only hope this drives them over the edge even farther; the more the country sees of these freaks, the better off we’ll all be. Come on, guys, shout it out: “Obama’s a nigger! Democrats are nigger-lovers!” Don’t be shy, now; let all that anger and hatred spew out. You know you want to. What could go wrong for you?

In a strong rebuke of President Obama and his domestic agenda, all 242 House Republicans voted Wednesday to repeal the Asteroid Destruction and American Preservation Act, which was signed into law last year to destroy the immense asteroid currently hurtling toward Earth.

Seriously, Obama should take a strong stand on retaining Social Security. Most people would naturally assume that Republicans want to eliminate it. Which, in fact, they kinda sorta really would like to do.

It’s so much fun watching the Republicans having to play defense.

Also love how the media is getting bashed for getting the initial reporting wrong.

‘Mandate struck down’: ‘Dewey Defeats Truman’ moment for CNN, Fox News
    __
The Supreme Court upheld the individual insurance mandate of President Obama’s “Affordable Health Care Act” in a 5-4 decision on Thursday, sending cable news and Twitter into a frenzy.
    __
Moments after the 193-page ruling was released by the court, several media outlets–including CNN and Fox News–erroneously reported on-air that the mandate had been struck down.
    __
“BREAKING NEWS: INDIVIDUAL MANDATE STRUCK DOWN,” CNN’s on-screen scroll blared. “Supreme Court finds measure unconstitutional.”
    __
It was a “Dewey Defeats Truman” moment for the 21st Century, New York Times reporter Charlie Savage tweeted, pointing to a screengrab of CNN’s premature scroll.

One of the stories shows Obama holding an iPad or tablet with the erroneous Court headline.

However, the Court could have minimized the confusion if they got into the 21st century. Even the 20th century might help.

I’ve got 2 winger relatives who are probably beyond help, but they’re all over Facebook today one upping each other on how soon and by how much insurance premiums are going to increase. In a moment of weakness, if I wanted to engage them in actual reality, what would be a good thing to say to perhaps educate them on this issue?

It’s not particularly relevant, but these two people are basically right there with who this law should help. One is about 50, has diabetes, and has had a couple of heart attacks. Her husband is a small town police officer who I doubt makes more than $35k. The other is widowed and living off a couple of dead husbands’ pensions, with chronic depression. I imagine they both mainline Fox News.

“It’s modeled after the incredibly popular healthcare program that Republican Governor Mitt Romney enacted in Massachusetts!”

“It’s virtually identical to a plan put forth by the GOP House in 1994!”
