Sweltering heat here today. Got home and realized I had not turned on the AC and it was 80 inside the house. Currently waging an argument with Rosie that it is just too damned hot for her to sit on my lap, and I am losing. She either sits on the ground staring at me so I can not focus on anything, or waits until I am distracted, jumps up, and I notice five minutes later that my thigh is sweating.
If I had 1/1000th the persistence of a Jack Russell Terrier, I would be rule the world.

This may be my favorite wingnut comment of the day, coming in a Washington Examiner piece on the wingnut governors (McDonnell and Walker) who are going to screw their citizens and not implement ACA until after the general:
It is time for all TAX PAYERS to DROP their health INSURANCE!!! IF enough people with insurance rebel, all at the same time. We will make the entire evil system that is obamacare die!!
Ok. Drop your health insurance to stick it to Obamacare. That will show him. Later on, true patriot “GeorgiaPeachie” puts the kaibosh on John Roberts, hoping he has a stroke.

I have a 29-pound Tuxedo cat doing much the same thing, except he refuses to get in my lap and wants me to get down on the floor with him and cuddle him. Which I’ve done 10,000 times already today but am not really into right now. But he won’t go away.
And yes, I know he needs to lose weight. Tell me about it.

Our rat terrier is the same way. My sister was original and named him Jack, but she should have named him velcro. That dog will follow you everywhere if you let him, and absolutely has to have you pet him non stop and sit right on top of you. The great thing about rat terriers though is that they can also be like cats and will sit on the couch for hours.

AC? whas that? It made it to high 90’s today here, and supposed to warm up a tad from that. But the monsoon season is about to break out, with some storms over the mountains now. I’ve blacked out all my windows with trash bags, and figured out a system to rotate window fans, along with the very cruel sun here moving around the building, to just get by without going nuts, stripping off, and running wild in the street.
And I ordered a compact fridge today, as the minimalist cave dweller I yam. Pretty soon I’ll be living on lizards, and maybe a little rat meat.

See, outside of the southwest, it gets FUCKING HUMID. 80 here in Phoenix feels like room temp most other places. Back in the Midwest, and I’m sure in WV, if it’s in the 90s and the humidity is above, say, 40%, it’s miserable. When I first drove here, my AC was out and the worst leg of my trip was Omaha to Denver, because it was like 97 and 70% humidity. Once I got into drier areas, it was a lot better.

It’s 100 degrees outside. I’ve got the AC set to 83 but the temperature is somewhere over the 90 top reading. I feel stupid running the AC for a 90 degree indoor temp, but I’m afraid if I turn it off the inside temp will match the outside. One of my irritated conservative/semi-winger (via Faux Nooz) customers gave his unsolicited opinion regarding the “illegal mandate” today. He’s a former city worker, former military who served in Vietnam who is living comfortable due to his military/public pensions and the medical policies that come with them. I asked him “Do you have health insurance?”, which he responded in the affirmative. I then told him that the mandate has nothing to do with him. He looked flat out confused and then told me I was wrong. I explained the mandate to him and how the “tax” works, pointing out to him that even if the “tax” applied to him that he wouldn’t even have to pay it if he didn’t want to. He didn’t believe that either…lol!
I told him to go check out some places online that have actual information and no spin to it. I pointed him to the government site info but he doesn’t trust that. I told him to use that information as a springboard and to search for unbiased information using it.

Once people realize that all the scare stories were nonsense, no one will want to go back the current crumbling deadly mess.
So, I see either tighter regulation and mandetory offer of a standard policy (which is different than minimum standard), or public option, or both. I think the ACA itself is a transitional system, but if can keep it unitl all benefits kick in, it will be an irreversible step in the right direction.
Edit: So, forgive the wingnuts, and especially their deluded and/or cynical leaders. Especially the leaders. This might be nail in the coffin of their hopes to keep the current racket going a few more election cycles. They will have to go through the seven, or nine, or whatever stages of grief.

1) The main movement in opinion on the Affordable Care Act among consumers has been from “a good start” to “don’t know/no opinion”; outright opposition has remained steady at the exact same numbers
2) “Don’t know/no opinion” represents the largest percentage of responses among the uninsured in this survey
3) CEOs and CFOs think the act is “a step in the wrong direction”; corporate officers in charge of health coverage feel the opposite
4) Surgical specialists hate the act; PCPs and non-surgical specialists feel the opposite

Heat, holy crap, people, the heat is extremely hot these days, yes? Whether or not you have the AC, here is my suggestion: stock up on at least nine (9) units of 6 (six) or 12 (twelve) packs of your favorite beer, make sure each of them gets totally cold, then proceed as follows: drink from one multi-pack (keep the about-to-be-imbibed beer delivery devices on ice, in a cooler, within reach), place another multi-pack unit on your lap (layered in a summer-weight flannel blankie), place beloved critters on your cool and refreshing lap, and refrigerate the rest (of the beer) until it’s time to switch multi-packs. As both a Wildcat and a Sun Devil, I can testify that 115 degrees can cause one to consider suicide, no matter how hot or dry.
The worst part of the Arizona summer comes later in the summer, when the ground has absorbed so much radiation for so long that the heat radiates up from the ground even as the sun pounds you from above. Operable temperatures often exceed 125. The sensation of walking outside during the middle of the day from a building into a parking lot feels about as bad as hitting oneself in the head with a hammer. The stillness of the air, the lack of shade, and the extreme dryness that cracks my skin just….. well, I live here ’cause it’s cheap.
Having said all that, we’re going to Arkansas to see the in-laws for a week next month, and I’m not looking forward to that, either.
