There’s something funny (via) to me about nonsensical lists of reasons:
A New York City donor a few cars back, who also would not give her name, said Romney needed to do a better job connecting. “I don’t think the common person is getting it,” she said from the passenger seat of a Range Rover stamped with East Hampton beach permits. “Nobody understands why Obama is hurting them.
“We’ve got the message,” she added. “But my college kid, the baby sitters, the nails ladies — everybody who’s got the right to vote — they don’t understand what’s going on. I just think if you’re lower income — one, you’re not as educated, two, they don’t understand how it works, they don’t understand how the systems work, they don’t understand the impact.”
Fuck these idiots. Guillotines are too good for them.

The conservative movement has spent decades crafting messages and arguments designed to sell the idea that policies which favor the rich are really ways of helping poor people, ending programs which benefit minorities is how we help minorities, and so forth. Sad to say, these messages have been pretty successful in persuading a lot of people to vote for policies that are designed to screw them over.
But the most notable victims of this propaganda campaign are the people at the top themselves. I work on Wall Street and I know exactly how the discussions go in Mitt Romney’s quiet rooms. They seriously believe all this stuff!
The way I figure it, no one except a sociopath takes pride in screwing over the less fortunate. Most people like to think of themselves as good and want to believe that the policies which favor their self-interest just happen to be good policies for everyone else as well. And over the years they’ve come to buy into this propaganda hook, line and sinker.
Comrade Dread
I think we understand just fine that some people shouldn’t have to die of cancer just to soothe the paranoid sensibilities of Republicans and libertarians who view any activity of government other than shooting foreigners as an act akin to shuffling people off to labor camps in Siberia.

Entitlement, she reeks of it. Just like her presidential candidate. I hate to say it but the bad things in life need to happen to people like her, they’re too insulated from reality. She should be asking herself why people who don’t have much aren’t enthused by her Rmoney. The problem with that is that she thinks money = intelligence and in her world, if you don’t have any then you are stupid and don’t matter.
She is an idiot, a rich idiot.

More of this, please. Mitt’s donors are rich and out of touch. Mitt is out of touch. Keep it coming.

There’s definitely some misunderstanding going on, but it ain’t the kind she thinks it is.

@Hypatia’s Momma: This is another piece of what I mentioned above. They seriously think if college students knew what was good for them, they’d go wild for austerity, balanced budgets, and massive cuts in government spending. Of course, new college grads would actually be crushed if the government adopted this sort of anti-growth agenda, but it’s all like “stupid college kids, what do they know about the real world?”

These people are the very definition of the people Bill Maher talks about and has a running segment on the show about as “living in the bubble.”. Say what you will about Maher, but this meme of his hits the nail right on the head.
Clueless motherfuckers. When the revolution comes, I will enjoy seeing these assholes grovelling as we line them up against the wall.
Or, at least, that’s how it is in my fondest fantasies. Sadly, being that I am a liberal, I’d probably sentence them to menial jobs for life, without parole, and forfeit all their worldly goods. Which would probably be more tortuous, in the end.

That’s what’s so disturbing about these people. They spend 2 million dollars on a painting but balk when the country that made them rich asks them to chip in 200k a year more to help out. @Q.Q. Moar: Have you ever read Jacques Ellul’s book, Propaganda. It sets forth a very interesting theory about propaganda that suggests that the reason that propaganda is so effective is that those subject to it willing accept it as truth and are active participants in the entire process. It is a very compelling book and sheds a lot of light on a lot of things in my opinion. He doesn’t condemn anyone caught in these systems by any means, but he does acknowledge that the only way they will ever be broken is by active resistance. Unfortunately, for many people accepting propaganda is easier than trying to understand the complexities of modern life and they end up not wanting to resist the propaganda even when it is revealed to them.

I agree. They desperately need to believe this stuff, because for most of them it’s the only way to continue looking at themselves in the mirror when they shave.
There seems to be a common view that divides the Republican Party into the voter base – which either out of stupidity, ignorance or naivete, actually believes all the Gooper propaganda – and the economic, media and political “elites” – who in this narrative are basically Bond villains who know the real score and are only saying the ideological shit to trick the voters into not supporting their own interests.
IMHO, wrong on both counts. The “elites” has just as many people as the general public who are stupid or deluded enough to fall for their own con. And the “base” has plenty of people who either know the score or still wouldn’t care if they did, because screwing over the DFHs/immigrants/black-people/poor-people/wev just matters that much to them.

When Barack Obama took office, Binney hoped the new administration might be open to reforming the program to address his constitutional concerns. He and another former senior NSA analyst, J. Are you people seriously complaining about calling this out-of-touch elitist moron a bitch? Really? BItch, and bastard, are two words that won’t ever go away. They signify a personality type, and they’re ingrained in our language whether you like it or not. Just because they word bitch isn’t gender neutral deosn’t make some sort of “attack on all women”. It’s attack on one rich idiot who called her own college-age child unfit to vote, and who insulted everyone poorer than her as obviously less intelligent.
So you want to be nice to people like her? Fine, but fuck all if I’m going to do the same. She, and everyone like her, deserves a hell of a lot worse than a taunting.

Alright, I know I’ll probably take some heat for this, but some of these comments could well end up in a right-wing blog about how heartless and evil the left is — we’re talking about the best ways for conservatives to die (to be murdered). Yes, WE know we’re joking, but humor doesn’t translate well from one ism to another. Eliminationist talk is pretty volatile.
