Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

Let there be snark.

Presidents are not kings, and Plaintiff is not President.

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

The words do not have to be perfect.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

All your base are belong to Tunch.

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

“But what about the lurkers?”

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

Bark louder, little dog.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Running With the Devil

Looks like Bachmann finally might have gone too far for even the lunatics in the GOP:

Even La Grande Orange is chiming in:

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) has joined a growing list of Republicans in condemning Rep. Michele Bachmann’s (R-MN) unsubstantiated Islamophobic attacks against top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The flap started when Bachmann all but directly accused Clinton aide Huma Abedin of working on behalf of the Muslim Brotherhood in a letter with four colleagues to the State Department’s Inspector General demanding an investigation.

“I think accusations like this being thrown around are dangerous,” Boehner said during a press conference on Thursday

Let’s not be fooled by their surprising outrage. They have “limits” because they are trying to bolster Romney’s chances. The limits will collapse after the election.

True, it’s a minor demur after years of disgusting hate and fear mongering on their part, and probably disingenuous as commenters above note. Unless Bachmann is crazy or stupid enough to make a fuss, the flap will disappear within days.

But progress all the same. Their BS cannot stand any scrutiny at all. Think of the little Dutch boy with all his fingers and toes rammed into leaks in a dike (that was outsourced to some shady construction corporation), and he just has to take one out for a minute or two.

Their racket is falling apart and little scenes like this just bring that day closer.

Remember when the goopers at least pretended to believe that “politics stops at the water’s edge?” Good times. I’m guessing Bachmann is getting too unhinged even for Boehner. We throw around “crazy” with justification to explain current gooper behavior, but with all this crap on one hand and the Swiss citizenship thing on the other I think Bachmann’s really clinically bonzo and don’t think she’s controllable at this point.

I think that should be Le Grand Orange. (French has that rule about gendered definite articles and adjectives).

Not sure if domestic political considerations would make Republicans tell Bachmann to dial back the Islamophobia, which I gather is red meat to the party base. Could it be that some foreign friend has had a quiet word in someone’s ear?

Rachel Maddow’s show a few days ago linked Bachmann’s nonsense to the protestors who pelted Secretary of State Clinton’s motorcade with tomatoes and shoes during her recent trip to the Middle East. Some of them had signs claiming that the Obama Administration was supporting the Muslim Brotherhood. Some people who were interviewed claimed that they had seen this on right wing blogs which quoted Bachmann, among other crazies.

On the flip side of the coin, Tennessee nutwagons attack our very Republican governor for being not sufficiently conservative because he’s hired a Muslim to head the international arm of our state economic development office. I mean, it’s fucking outrage central here: county GOP chairs all across the state have passed resolutions condemning this person and the governor for hiring her.

So this is an amazing story the Nashville alternative paper has done on the implosion of the Tennessee GOP. This is your state on Tea Party: looking for an ass to kick. Completely devoid of reason or thought, just filled with hate. Eating their own (good! Enjoy the meal! Want some whine with that cannibalism?)

We tend to glorify the era based on the heroes it produced, like Murrow or Welch, but the truth is that it was an era of cowardice and conformity.
