Had a great day today- picked up Ryan and Sarah and young baby Cole, and he is really the most adorable, happy, pudgy little baby. He neever cries, he is always smiling, and the worst thing he does is go into what Ryan and Sarah call a “simmering fuss,” where he gets a little vocal and antsy. Lily and Rosie licked him all over, and he just seems fascinated by them. Tomorrow we are going to the Oglebay Good Zoo, which has a petting zoo, so he can see some more animals.
Made a good dinner, too. Had some sweet corn that was grown a mile away from here, some locally raised ribeye steaks, and I made a tomato/onion/cucumber salad with basil, olive oil, and red win vinegar. Everything but the red wine vinegar and the oil were from my garden.

In the 80’s I was on the NC State School of Sports Management Board. We held our annual week-long school for recreation sports managers at Oglebay. We had to fly to Pittsburgh and take what was called the “Wheeling Limo” from the airport to the park. It is a beautiful place and I have great memories of the Glassworks Lounge and Wheeling Downs. Thanks for the memories.

Why no pictures? I’d prefer one of young Cole being licked all over by the piglets, but if a photo of corn is all you have, I guess that’ll do.

It’s too bad “red win vinegar” is a typo, because it is full of, well, win.
I myself happen to be drinking a glass of red win at this very moment.

There is a wildfire loose in the general area that Soonergrunt lives. I don’t know where exactly he is located. Anyway, it was in the eastern part of the county that contains Norman, destroyed some homes, caused evacuation of a bunch of people, and has now moved into the next county to the east. Apparently, it isn’t under control at this time.

Good on you for eating locally raised beef. I hate to be that annoying person, but I was a confirmed meat eater until April, and haven’t eaten a speck of beef or pork since then (PINK SLIME!), and haven’t eaten chicken since the end of May. The meat industry is fucked up. If you HAVE to eat meat, pay your local farmer the real cost of meat eating, and then you can eat it without feeling like you’re ignoring everything that you have to ignore to eat factory farm meat. I know, I know, I’m that annoying newbie vegetarian convert that everyone hates, but it doesn’t mean that it’s not the right thing to do.

Listen to your body, but you are what you eat so pay attention to the provenance of your food. If people really knew where their food came from – really saw and understood what goes in to the final product of what they eat – the world would change in a significant way. The typical American diet is completely and totally unsustainable, and unhealthy, and a dead end. Forks over knives.

I wanna root for Alyson Felix, but the whole “tied” for 3 thing that happened at trials really put me off, particularly since the 100m was never her race, from what I’ve read, she added it and dropped the 400, allegedly because to be a premiere T&F athlete you need to be a 2 event athlete and since her best event is the 200, the 100m puts less of a strain for her 200m training. Her teammate who tied with her shoulda been the one to go for 100m, but she did drop out rather than fighting for her spot, by racing Felix for qualifying.
Anyhoo, the 100m is Carmelita Jeter’s race to lose, IMHO!

OTOH, I think the two aforementioned sprinters are very attractive.

Yeah. Buddy Buie was a producer/arranger or something involved with the Classics IV and then with ARS, so there’s a lot of overlap. I think he owned a recording studio in Doraville and was a local power player.

@hoppipolla:
Hadn’t heard Midlake, but I like their sound. There is good stuff to be made in that smooth background with judiciously applied crunchy guitar. Bit of a jangly transition at 1:22, though.
Thinking further on the keyboard/crunchy Les Paul guitar thing that seems to crop up a lot in Southern rock, here’s another classic: the Marshall Tucker Band, “Heard It in a Love Song.” Nice keyboard solo at 2:25, and Les Paul punctuation throughout, stepping to the front at 2:50.
