This is the most amusing thing I’ve seen all morning. “Adult” movie star Jenna Jameson endorsed Romney.
“I’m very looking forward to a Republican being back in office,” Jameson said while sipping champagne in a VIP room at Gold Club in the city’s South of Market neighborhood. “When you’re rich, you want a Republican in office.”
I wonder if she knows the Mittster pledged to crack down on the evil scourge of the carnal arts. If he succeeds, maybe she won’t be so rich anymore.
BGinCHI
I can only assume that CNN will report this as a variation on their favorite theme:
She does it from both sides.
Bubblegum Tate
“When you’re rich, you want a Republican in office.”
Pretty awesome, Ms. Jameson. Rock on.
Comrade Dread
At least she’s honest and isn’t trying to dress up pure selfishness in the cloak of the constitution or civic duty or the other nonsense conservatives use.
SatanicPanic
He didn’t need this endorsement- he already has Utah locked up.
beltane
Doesn’t Utah have the highest porn consumption of any state in the Union? Jello consumption too. Us godless blue-staters cannot hope to compete with our pious brethren in the weirdness department.
Cassidy
She’s a *producer now (hasn’t acted in roughly a decade) and her husband is a millionaire retiree from the UFC. She has plenty of revenue streams.
*I know this because I follow MMA very closely. I prefer my porn stars to not look like “souhtern living” tweakers.
shortstop
But is she severely looking forward?
Patricia Kayden
I’m not rich.
Seebach
Is she running interference or is she serious? Because a porn star endorsing Romney on class warfare grounds is pretty hilariously off-message.
quannlace
Wow, those prestige endorsements just keep rolling in. Ted Nugent, “Birther’ Trump, and now porn stars!
And I hear sex workers are really looking forward to the Republican Convention.
Xecky Gilchrist
She’s right, so hopefully people vote like that – the Republicans will get 1% of the vote.
gene108
@Cassidy:
She’s too old to be acting in porn now. She must be in her late 30’s or early 40’s by now.
There’s not enough plastic surgery that can mask the effects of being middle aged, when you get up close and nekkid.
Cris (without an H)
But Daphne Rosen is in the tank for Obama. Checkmate, Republicans
geg6
Yeah, whore Jenna Jameson likes the whores of the GOP. Who would have ever guessed?
The lowest of lowlifes love them some Rmoney! Just ask Shel Adelson, Donald Trump, Karl Rove, or Jenna Jameson.
Nina
The adult entertainment industry in Tampa is expecting record profits during the Rebpublican convention. If a small-town official is caught in sexual hijinks, it’s an 80% chance that there will be an “R” next to his name.
There are exceptions to the rule of course, but in general if a Democrat gets in trouble it’s all about money, if a Republican gets in trouble it’s all about kinky sex.
Ms. Jameson knows who her best customers are.
brent
@gene108: porn is not like major league athletics. If you you can have sex on camera – fat, thin, old, very old, dwarf, giant, missing limbs – then someone will pay to see you do it.
jwb
@Seebach: This has to be primarily PR and hoping for a rebuke from Romney for additional points of PR.
Libby Spencer
@BGinCHI: ROFL. Wish I could come up with snappy one liners like that.
Cassidy
@gene108: People will pay to see Jenna Jameson, regardless. What’s funny is when she was younger, she was curvier, still super-skinny, but curvier. These days she walks around like Victoria Beckham. I sometimes wonder what laws of physics hold her clothing on as there is nothing to hold onto.
Cris (without an H)
Correction, Daphne’s a Paulbot, still WHATEVER
Morbo
@beltane: Perhaps, perhaps not, the study people cite didn’t really measure that in a satisfactory way. It did show that they do have the highest paid for porn consumption, though. So it probably showed that Utahans are the least familiar with torrents and streaming sites.
Steve
One phony set of boobs deserves another.

@Comrade Dread: Charles Barkley made a similar statement some years back, when he was talking about running for governor of Alabama.
shortstop
@Steve: Well played.
kindness
@geg6: C’mon now. She isn’t a whore. She just used to get paid to have multiple sex acts and have them filmed. Now she pays other young stars and starlets to do the same.
Well….I think the whole thing was a publicity stunt for her but it is rich. I mean, if Mittens isn’t a whore of the Finance world and Political world, I don’t know if anyone could be.
Amir Khalid
I’m waiting to see whom Nina Hartley endorses.

” I wonder if she knows the Mittster pledged to crack down on the evil scourge of the carnal arts. If he succeeds, maybe she won’t be so rich anymore. ”
If she is rich enough, she knows the drill, and what things Romney says he will do that he won’t and what he says he won’t do that he will.
Perhaps she has “discussed” it with the Romney camp in those quiet back rooms Mitt loves so much? Eh? Meybbe? No rich person has called me to confirm yet, but if one does, I am ready to spread the word.
This women is hot and blond and in an important growth industry, and rich. I approve of her endorsement of Rmoney.
Libby Spencer
It’s been many years since I’ve seen an adult movie, but as I recall, there were a few older women who still had very successful careers in that genre.
Bubblegum Tate
@lacp:
He was more or less recounting an exchange he had with his grandmother (who had basically raised him in poverty in Alabama):
GRANDMOTHER: Charles, why would you want to be a Republican? They only care about rich people!
BARKLEY: But grandma, I’m rich.
PurpleGirl
@Cassidy: Glue or double-sided sticky tape.
Brian R.
Of course she’s a Republican.
Do you know how many people she’s fucked?
Cassidy
As to the “whore” comments, I seem to recall that Adult actresses tend to skew liberal. They command pretty devout followings. It’s nice to have them on our side.
redshirt
@kindness: Don’t know if this is an urban myth, but! It’s illegal to pay a person for sex. It’s not illegal to pay that same person to have sex with you while you film it for porn purposes.
So, ruling is: Not a whore!
Also, if you’re hiring a prostitute, bring a camera.
Gin & Tonic
@geg6: I think you’re being unnecessarily harsh on Jenna. She made an honest (and very lucrative) living and didn’t abuse or kill anyone. Not the choice of career most of us would have made, but she was supplying a market.
Cassidy
@PurpleGirl: Maybe, or since it’s coming from a girl, probably. I just know she looks emaciated. Any time Tito fights, the camera always pans to her.
BGinCHI
@Libby Spencer: I have a whole staff of writers here. I take my commenting very seriously.

Craig
@jdrs0819: I feel very confident that she’s pulling everyone’s leg (wink wink) with this “endorsement”.
jwb
@jdrs0819: With a line like “When you’re rich, you want a Republican in office,” there’s no question in my mind about the honesty of her endorsement. It’s perfectly calibrated to feed the tweetmachine and blogs.
Cassidy
@jwb: OTOH, Tito Ortiz has never struck me a as very progressive guy. She could be a convert.
SatanicPanic
@Gin & Tonic: She’s added more value to our economy than whatever it is Mitt has been doing.
Cassidy
@Gin & Tonic: To be fair, I think a lot of the guys on here would have chosen porn star if given the oppurtunity.
jwb
@Cassidy: I have no idea about her actual politics, which are sort of beside the point, since I imagine the value of her endorsement to be right up there with Ted Nugent’s. I think she calibrated the “endorsement” to maximize PR effect and thought about how to say something that would self-perpetuate on Twitter and the blogs.
Enhanced Voting Techniques
Read the rest of the article, it’s clear she is strong in the snark.

@Cassidy: There’s an old saying: You can never be too rich or too thin. Many (most?) celebrities work to be quite thin (yes, emaciated) with big boobs.

What’s this “p0rn” thing y’all are talking about?
LanceThruster
Slightly OT, I remember a comic talking about the quality of life for working animals (pack mules, war horses, etc.), and said if he/she (can’t remember which) could be reincarnated as a any working animal, they said they’d want to be an animal working in porn (though not crush films creatures – ugh!).
I suppose a sheep dog or the like wouldn’t be too bad either. Junk yard dogs always seem kind of lonely and not fully understanding why their ferocious nature seems to keep people beyond arm’s length. Petting zoo – check. Pony rides for little kids (though not obnoxious ones) – check.

@Amir Khalid: Saw her at a strip club as the featured celeb dancer during the Bush years and in the Q&A, I asked if she feared for the clock being turned back on the 1st Amendment (she’s a big proponent of porn as free speech). She said there’s not a chance that would ever happen.
Even then, I never shared her optimism on that one.

@Cassidy:
Much like Juliette Anderson (Aunt Peg), Keisha, Hyapatia Lee, and a host of other female perfomers/producers (whose name’s escape me at the moment without some in-depth research) broke ground in the business traditionally the domain of exclusively male power brokers, Jenna Jameson positioned herself to gain a larger portion of the profits for her own efforts.
I think Mitt does somewhat the opposite, i.e. gets a large share of his fortune off the backs of others.
I hate him and still “love” her (as much as one can “love” the objectified female form)..

Okay, wait. Is it now okay to make misogynistic comments if they’re about a porn star? Or is it only okay to make them if she endorses Republicans? Okay, how about if she’s a very intelligent former porn star–which she is–giving Mittens a cross between the death-hug Obama gave Romney’s work on health care in Massachusetts and Marilyn’s singing of “Happy Birthday” to JFK? Still okay to make misogynistic comments about her?
Or, how about if we just don’t fucking make any misogynistic comments about any woman, even if we’re talking about Michelle Malkin, ‘kay?
But if we can, does this mean its okay to call Allan West a ni*CLANG*?

I am pretty sure this is supposed to be satire. She’s on record supporting Democrats in previous years… http://www.thepolitic.com/archives/2007/05/18/jenna-jameson-hillary-clinton-for-president/

Given how the stock market does worse under Republicans than Democrats, I’m not sure that is true either.

Somebody probably beat me to it, but methinks this overrated dumb broad took too many shots to the face.
Shawn in ShowMe
From what I’ve read on her Wikipedia page, Jenny Jameson reacted to her tough childhood (including being raped by an acquaintance in her late teens) by vowing to become a star and only seeking out relationships that would benefit her career.
I understand why she doesn’t value empathy. When she cared about regular people, all she did was get hurt. But Romney and his ilk don’t have that excuse.
AxelFoley
@jdrs0819:
Interesting. I recall reading an interview some years back when she was still doing movies that she would never do interracial scenes. Seems she’s got a problem with black folks.
She supports a Dem in 2008, now she switches to a Repuke in 2012. Hmm…what do both candidates have in common? Ooh-ooh, I know! Their opponent is black!

Very good point, actually and one that the Rethuglicans have been misrepresenting as long as I can remember (much like the canard that they are better on national defense).

It’s a free country, you can say what you want. You just have to deal with the consequences and repercussions.

@AxelFoley: Back when she started out, that wasn’t a money-making market, so I’m not sure if that’s a as big a factor as you think. Also, her husband is Hispanic. OTOH, there was a few things she said she wouldn’t do that would have sold well, so who the hell knows.
LanceThruster
@nhoj:
Thanks for that. I think you’ve established that she was indeed being toungue-in-cheek in her Rmoney endorsement.
She might just be the Stephen Colbert of the adult industry!
I loved how Colbert recently said that, “if you believe that [blank] is actually [blank] (I can’t for the life of me remember who he was goofing on), then I’m secretly a liberal pretending to be a conservative!”

I used to hear porn stars interviewed on the Howard Stern show talk about what they would or would not do on film and my first thought was sometimes (awwwwww shucks – that’s my thing) and other times it was a reminder that they’re not obligated to fulfill every single fantasy of others and were obviously allowed to choose what they themselves would participate in…much like a food preference or musical tastes.
As far as I’m concerned, it’s all good.
LanceThruster
@Catsy:
Thanks for calling them out on that as often Ill choose a Miss Manners approach (like ingnoring an unpleasant or emberrassing occurance at a dinner party for the sake of face saving) when it should be pointed out in no uncertain terms that agreement on one issue does not mean endorsement of some other glaring ignorance.
Kudos.
Also, too, it’s a desire not to have an otherwise interesting discussion sidetracked by boorish tangents (though you very correctly pointed it out so as to be able to return to our regularly scheduled program),

@Gin & Tonic:
She fucks for money (or at least, she did). That is what a whore does. If she did it for free, I would not call her that. That’s just your every day promiscuous idiot. Whores are whores. I’m not clear on how she is not one because she didn’t kill anyone.
FYI, the very first definition in Merriam-Webster confirms that I am correct:

It is good to remember than sex for money (prostitution) and soliciting sex for money (pandering) is illegal in most jurisdictions (unless you choose to film it for sale).
What a country!
On a side note, why do the Charlie Churches get their panties in a wad over all the other slippery slope “vices” that would lead to a total breakdown of society, but they are not picketing Nevada nonstop with its legalized prostitution?
Why isn’t Fred Phelps a permanent prescence at the Bunny Ranch with “God Hates Whores!” signs? (though it may be he is there under cover gathering valuable intel – it would be irresponsible not to speculate!)

Hypatia's Momma

It’s a good example of why so many Americans have such flabby ethical codes; they never bother exercising them.
Catsy
@geg6:
I’m sure that if you try for more than half a second, you can think of at least one substantive, nontrivial difference between the occupations of porn actor and prostitute.
Not saying the jokes don’t write themselves. Just that pretending the two professions are the same thing just because they both involve having sex and being paid does not exactly enhance your credibility on the topic, especially not when that assertion is being used as a flimsy excuse to call someone a whore. It’s like calling a soldier a pig and justifying it by saying that both soldiers and a policemen get paid to carry a gun.
Hypatia's Momma
@Catsy:
Also, apparently promiscuous people are stupid or something.
NCSteve
@geg6: Ironically was on the other side of this very argument in a long comment fight on TPM once. I was objecting to a very earnest young woman’s insistence that referring to a politician as a “whore” was wrong. It was stuff like this that got me rethinking that position.
I’ve come around to agreeing with her that the idea there are some contexts where it’s okay to demean or denigrate women for having sex, whether professionally or for fun, is just fundamentally corrosive and indecent–even when done obliquely by using the language metaphorically. It perpetuates the repugnant old double standard about promiscuity, validates objectification and, in a broader sense, is a tacit endorsement of the view that women who engage in prostitution–whether under compulsion, duress, or voluntarily and even happily–are somehow blameworthy and deserving of scorn and mockery.
I’m far from a prude. Personally, I don’t think there’s anything fundamentally wrong with either pornography or prostitution. Absolutely everything that’s wrong with both of them as they actually exist are the result of deeper cultural pathologies. And I think we really ought to try to move ourselves out of those pathologies whenever possible.
Okay, putting away my holier than thou soapbox for the weekend.
**update** Posted this and got “awaiting moderation.” I’m not going to wax indignant. Robots are idiots and we have to accept that if we want to have them. We all know this. But I’m not going to change a word. Either it gets through or it doesn’t.

Jenna Jameson (born Jenna Marie Massoli; April 9, 1974)* has never made a secret of who she was, Libby. The expected juvenile snark over this is just a symptom of how sick the “well” people in this society are, when it comes to anything related to sex.
