Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

Infrastructure week. at last.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

The willow is too close to the house.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

Consistently wrong since 2002

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

In my day, never was longer.

Eh, that’s media spin. biden’s health is fine and he’s doing a good job.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

I was promised a recession.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

“But what about the lurkers?”

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

From commentor Hamletta:

Hey, you guys! I am whoring for my peeps, and my city.

Any of you who have Facebook accounts can vote for Lutheran Services of Tennessee in Toyota’s 100 Cars For Good contest today, Friday.

You should do this, because their van is fixin’ to take a shit.

They do what they do because our society has decided the people they work with are beneath consideration, and they need a functioning vehicle to do it….

I may be a whore, but LST is doing the Lord’s work here on earth, and I’m happy to help it along.

Description of Toyota’s program here.

I have a friend who cofounded an organization that just won a Toyota pickup truck last month Rescue U which works with student volunteers on a national level to affect change in the realm of animal sheltering.

    Been there, voted for that.

Semi-OT: I don’t know if the Good News Garage (Lutheran-run, central MA) are organizationally anywhere near this, but I tracked them down to donate my well-used Toyota. Their mission is to get people in cars so those recipients can satisfy workfare/training requirements. They don’t crush the cars, like many places arrange to do.

@ThresherK: I gave two cars to the GNG here in Vermont. One they disposed of because it was barely running, but the other they gave to someone after fixing.

It goes against my grain to help any of these “christ centered” outfits but, because you asked, I did.

Just voted. The Lutherans do a good job in social services and emergency services – the monies donated actually go to the people in need. Some of them actually still believe in the things that wild-eyed guy Jesus actually said – you know, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, etc, etc.

There seems to be a lot more Afghans in uniform killing US and NATO troops.

The Daily Telegraph has been doing some digging

Mitt Romney may have breached ethics laws through company linked to Paul Ryan’s brother

    OK, done.

In other news, this is thoroughly awesome.

Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs has put photos of the UK’s 20 top tax cheats (defined as people who fled the country after being charged with tax crimes) up on its Flickr stream.

Shame that the IRS and DOJ can’t do something similar.

Is this a hunger games type thing where folks are pitted against each other and we sit back and cheer for our favorite?

@Maude: Afghan males are easily offended and US Soldiers are really good at saying offensive things without being aware of who is around.

    @Litlebritdifrnt:

For three years from 1995, Tobin Ryan, who is now 47, was a senior manager at Bain & Company, the consulting firm where Mr Romney made his name.
    __
He lives five blocks away from his brother Paul in Janesville, Wisconsin, and was pictured with Mr Romney at a campaign rally in the state last weekend.

So, does the Ryan family have something on Romney? It would be irresponsible not to speculate.

@Raven: You don’t have to feel bad about it; Lutherans are actually not too different than the way they’re portrayed on Prarie Home Companion. “You’re no better than anybody else, so why don’t you work on improving yourself” as opposed to the fundie “You heathens should repent, you degenerates!” followed by patting themselves on the back.

@PeakVT: The one in the Sturbridge area and the other in the Burlington area are under the same umbrella, if I recall.
