Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

Fear and negativity are contagious, but so is courage!

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

If you’re gonna whine, it’s time to resign!

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

In my day, never was longer.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

You passed on an opportunity to be offended? What are you even doing here?

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. keep building.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

A fool as well as an oath-breaker.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

There are times when telling just part of the truth is effectively a lie.

“But what about the lurkers?”

Tomorrow, it will be 104 degrees, and Wednesday it will be 102 degrees.

In September.

So I’m hanging out and watching Harry Potter movies with soonerdaughter.

If there are any AGW denialists out amongst our commentariat, please DIAF, which you can do here in OKC just standing in my backyard.

It seems that there was no post-convention bounce for Rmoney.  If things keep going like they have been for him, he might get a ‘dead-cat bounce,’ at some point, however.

ADDED–soonerdog, AKA Melody, the SuperBichonRunt.

Additionally, Military Judge COL Denise Lind, JA scheduled trial for February 4 to March 15, 2013 for PFC Bradley Manning.

I have my problems with James Carville but he is a debate master! Saw him on Colbert; he had a great come back. Steven asked him how big a bump Rmoney/rAyn would get he said “Oh, maybe 2 points.” Colbert noted Willards people said they expect 11 points.

Carville looked him straight in the eye and said: “It was the Rmoney team that put Eastwood on the stage”

Most of the reputable polls are showing no discernible bounce for Romney, but Rasmussen decided to inexplicably inflate Obama’s numbers a few days before the R convention, so that they could de-inflate them immediately following the convention so as to show a 5-6 point bounce. I think the race is still close nationally but Obama’s got slim leads in most of the key battleground states.

Yeah, high 70’s to low 80’s, with warm nights, for the next week.

I know that sounds deliciously cool, if not downright cold, to people in OK right now, but that’s pretty damn warm for the Mid-Hudson Valley in Upstate NY – especially AFTER LABOR DAY!

I wonder if you’re planning to weigh in on “Mark Owen’s” book about Seal Team Six’s Osama operation. “Owen” is reportedly disputing the White House’s version of how it went down; the Department of Defense says it might sue him for not letting them vet the book; The New York Times is saying “Owen” apparently wrote the book because he has some kind of beef with Seal Team Six. I’m curious about this thing.

And I’m sure what’s-his-nuts, the resident Romneybot, would be deeply saddened by your talk of no post-convention bounce for Romney. The poor thing will be waiting till Christmas to see polls that finally get past the lag period and show Romney’s true post-con bounce.

Actually, I recall reading somewhere that there really was an appreciable post-GOP-con bounce, of four points — for Obama, on Intrade.

    @patroclus:

It continues to annoy me that Nate Silver continues to give weight to Rasmussen polls when they are so obviously biased.

So many commenters at 538 pointed out before the convention that Obama moved into the lead so that Rasmussen could create the illusion of a bounce. And sure enough that’s exactly what happened.

So much of the horse race polling relies on Rasmussen and Gallup daily tracking, which both skew to the right. I don’t think this race is as close as people think.

@Amir Khalid: Well, I don’t know who this Owen guy is. Was a he a member of ST 6? An attachment?
Even if he was the specific trigger man, I frankly gotta ask “so what?”
He can dispute certain details. But he can never prove anything. There will never be a circumstance where SOCOM issues a public statement that says anything like a confirmation. And again, so what?
Even if the sole order was to kill OBL and not a “kill or capture” order*, he was a walking command and control node, and killing the enemy commander is permitted under the laws of armed conflict. The ONLY people in the world who seem to be distressed that OBL is no longer drawing breath are the Al Quaeda membership and the US Republican party.
On a side note, any conservative who whines that we didn’t try to capture OBL would be the first one to give any indication that they actually care about such things as laws or the country’s international standing and reputation or anything else.

*And I believe that for various reasons, not the least of which were the logistics involved in a trial, and the fact that the only thing worse than no trial is a faked show trial, that the order was to find and kill OBL at all costs.

@Amir Khalid: And another point–if “Mark Owen” violated the law with respect to his confidentiality agreement and his security clearance, then it’s my opinion that he, like Bradley Manning, needs to be arrested, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. As a retiree, he’s subject to UCMJ and recallable to active duty for just that purpose, but he could also be tried in civilian court.

I am given to understand that part of his beef with ST6 has to do with him not being promoted in what he considered to be a timely manner. That kind of surprises me because most the Spec Ops guys I’ve known (not that there are many, but still) didn’t really appear to give a shit about rank.

I’m convinced that conservatives are trying to turn the Bin Laden killing into Obama’s Pat Tillman or Jessica Lynch fiasco, but the trouble for them is that there really isn’t much difference between the official story and the ones these guys are telling. Their big relevations seem to be minor differences in the retelling, not something as big as covering up the fact that Tillman was killed by friendly fire.

    @Amir Khalid:

With the Iraq shenanigans, it’s difficult to tease out where the desire to make a hero out of Jessica Lynch came from, but IMO it was much more driven by the Bush administration’s need to make the invasion look like it was going well than by the military. The Bushies needed a hero, the military tried to manufacture one for them but, as you said, they didn’t count on Lynch being an honest person who wasn’t interested in being famous.

Plus, as CW in LA pointed out, trying to draw a parallel between the Tillman or Lynch PR fiascos and the Bin Laden operation is particularly dumb since very few Americans think it was a bad thing that we took out Bin Laden, unlike the death of a football hero or the capture of an American soldier.
