Did they get it on tape this time?
Anya
I loved this one (refering to Juliant Castro’s daughter)
SmallAxe
Funny but I thought this one was the best:
#FLOTUS like a butterfly, sting like a bee. #DNC2012 from @gettingsome
jibeaux
@Anya: Gorram she was one of the cutest little kids I’ve ever seen.
Ash Can
Paul Ryan has the “whitey” tape. Honest injun.
Anya
It was a phenomenal night. What I liked best:
Michelle Obama
Deval Patrick
Julian Castro
The mother of the little girl with the congenital heart defet (moved me to tears)
Teddy Kennedy destroying Mitt Romney
Scott
The Daily Caller is on this story…
brent
@Anya: Another great one from tbogg during Castro
Anya
I don’t watch Fox News but how did they react to the Kennedy video? I am sure with a predictable poutrage.
Schlemizel
@SmallAxe:
I like that one A LOT!
Also too – it seems the goopers were tweeting how disrespectful it was to Ted that they ran that tape of the Rmoney/Kennedy debate. Yeah, these same guys that were calling Senator Kennedy a rapist and a murderer and expressing their great joy at his death on the day of his funeral are now deeply offended by this disrespect of his memory.
jibeaux
@Schlemizel: Oh yes, Ted would have been really saddened and disappointed to know he was used that way. He would have absolutely hated having his memory used to make a point about how awesome he was and how shitty Romney was.

This congenital heart defect thing is huge–a whole lot of families with children with Down’s Syndrome also find that their children have heart defects that need surgery and special care. Its a double whammy right at the birth. Also: a lot of families end up in the NICU for months very unexpectedly. I wish that the presentation on this issue had been a tiny bit more global and hit on the larger themes which are that illness and medical costs are not actually born by people who did something wrong. A huge amount of necessary health care spending happens to very young children and very young families and its totally unexpected and exactly what insurance should be paying for.
The dems came out strongly pro choice last night but they failed to make the connection between their health care policies overall and the fact that Democratic policies are pro-life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. From pre-natal care to post natal care for our vulnerable children it is Democrats, not Republicans, who are doing the most for pregant women, children, and families. If you have a fetus with a genetic problem, a hole in the heart, or anything else you and your family will only survive and thrive under a Democratic administration.

@Schlemizel:
I had forgotten that bit of poutrage. If being full of shit were a sport, the rethugs would have a trophy case overflowing with their awards.
Anya
@jibeaux: I know! Although I thought that Castro’s mom sitting there dignified and proud was a moving thing. I am sure a lot of Latino moms and grandmothers found that very touching.
Anya
@aimai:
I disagree. I think that message was imbedded in all the speeches I’ve listened to. You don’t have to yap about life like the goopers, instead you show by example that you value every life.

Report from the alternate universe: I was idly poking around the internets looking for reaction stories to Michelle’s speech. And there were sour wingnuts comments among the gushing in every case. The most bizarre said she (the commenter) was bored and she could see all the convention-goers were bored by the speech too.
Emma
@Randy P: Reality, how does it work, darn it!
debbie
@Schlemizel:
This goes well with the Republican wistfulness for Bill Clinton. I can’t wait for their reaction after his speech.
debbie
@ Randy P:
Those must be the same people who are hanging out at Althouse still cheering on the comic genius of Eastwood.
RedKitten
And of course the right-wingers are on to their new poutrage — the fact that the word “God” does not appear anywhere in Obama’s platform, even though there’s a sizeable section there about faith.
Because you know, even ONE omission of the word “God” just naturally means that Obama is going to start feeding Christians to the lions any day now.
1badbaba3
@RedKitten: But you know who did talk about Gawd?
Rev. Wright.
I blame Obama.

@Anya:
The Teddy tribute was moving (they cut to Lawrence O’Donnell and I could swear his eyes were moist… mine were a little, too). Something about those damned Kennedys It’s a Boston Irish thing– Like many locals, I grew up in a house where JFK’s picture was hung right next to Jesus’ (Prince of Our Tribe and all that).
The debate footage from 1994 was fair game, IMO. By historical accident, I watched those debates live way back when, and it was amazing to see them again– and gratifying that I don’t have to expect anyone to trust the memories of folks like me to expose Mitt’s flip-floppy BS. The tape is there, for all to see.
As for the RW poutrage, let the wingnut tears flow. After last week’s emotionally abusive hatefest, the country sure needed the defiance of Patrick and the optimism of FLOTUS.
The message to the GOP was clear: We’re the ones with the vision for the future, not you. And you fuckers might be able to steal this one (in fact, I still think they will). But history is on our side.
Long term, the future is ours.
gbear
@RedKitten: The democrats had to drop God from their platform because he couldn’t produce his birth certificate.

@gbear:
Oh my FSM that’s genius!
Glad my mouth wasn’t full or this laptop would be toast, thanks so much for the giggle

@Anya: You forget Ted Strickland who just won himself a position in the second Obama admin and what he said will be used during the rest of the campaign more than any other speech apart from FLOTUS’.

I must have missed it when it came around, in 2008, or put it out of my mind. Googled “God damn whitey” and got Rick Rolled! Ouch! Is that all it is?
Atrios was making a subtle point, too subtle for me…
BC
@kofu: Remember in 2008 when it was rumored there was a “whitey tape” with Michelle Obama? Purportedly, in this tape she showed how much she hated white people. According to the myth developed at that time, Hilary Clinton’s campaign had the whitey tape and was going to release it at the right time to forever damage Barack Obama and end his chance of ever becoming president. Atrios has been needling this since 2008.
Cassidy
@RedKitten: Still a more specific policy stance than Robot/Zombie.

@Judas Escargot, Acerbic Prophet of the Mighty Potato God:
In the Wavy Gravy movie (Saint Misbehavin’), he spoke of their road trip through Afghanistan and the Khybar Pass and were hosted by Afghans in the home with a pic of JFK hanging next to one of Mecca. Hard to imagine that sort of optimism towards the USA these days.
LanceThruster
@RedKitten:
If it were the “right” xians, I don’t know if that would be such a bad idea (unless the Fred Phelps clan would give the big cats indigestion).
On the plus side, it did help with their early marketing as they were trying to establish the brand.

@gbear:
It’s comments like this that keep me coming back here.

@kofu:
The “Whitey” tape, possibly explained.
kofu
Thanks @BC and @Michael G:
If you google “god damn whitey” it seems there was another slur circulating, more focused and sly. And apparently it caught hold a little bit. I wonder how many people got Rick Rolled, and not knowing what that was, came away still thinking something like that really happened?
And I wonder what other little tricks like this we can look forward to, in the next two months? Not the big stuff, but the cascade of little stuff…
Egilsson
@aimai: I totally agree with this post and I think it is a huge point that is being left on the table. For those serious about life, universal health care is a must. Thousands of people die for the lack of it. It should be made more bluntly because blunt moral arguments work.
Egilsson
Man, I post that then Sister Simone Campbell drops the exact argument I wanted. Blunt broad moral arguments win.
