The schedule, vague as it is, is here.

Really looking forward to Zach Walls’ speech. He gave one of the absolute most impassioned speeches I’ve ever seen on marriage equality in Iowa and I’m sure he’s going to knock it out of the park again tonight.
ImJohnGalt
Did Cole show up? I hope he hasn’t let his predilection for dames and whiskey subvert his enjoyment and experience of, you know, the actual convention.
dmsilev
So, now that we’ve established that Barack Obama can control the weather (besides ordering up a thunderstorm for tonight, apparently he also arranged last week’s hurricane and the drought), how long until he smites Mitt Romney with a bolt of lightning?
I’ll guess it’ll happen at the climax of the third debate.
JPL
@jgaugust: do you know what time?
jgaugust
@JPL: Sked says some time between 6-7 PM EST. Nothing specific though.
FlipYrWhig
@Poopyman: What the holy hell is Timothy Dolan doing on the bill?
MikeJ
@ImJohnGalt:
You’ve never been to a convention, have you? Drinking and womanizing are what made this country great.
mai naem
I am looking forward to Brian Schweitzer. Loved him in 08. Future president or veep.
catclub
@FlipYrWhig: Rick Warren apparently was not available. oy. This is not my favorite aspect of Obama’s outreach to wackaloons.
Poopyman
@FlipYrWhig: Near as I can tell, it’s the Dems’ way of removing God from the convention.
bemused
The schedule says Barney Frank is up next after Donna Edwards…hope that’s accurate.
Anne Laurie
@ImJohnGalt:
He’s in the next thread up, paying no attention to his underbloggers :)
Poopyman
How’s Donna Edwards doing? She’s the rep from the next district over. I somehow ended up dancing with her at Kos’ party at the Mpls Netroots.
Jay C
@FlipYrWhig:
My thoughts exactly.
He’s there to exorcise the place?
Nellcote
@bemused:
Barney’s on NOW.

@Anne Laurie: Jeebus, Bigfoot stomping through his own blog again.

James Taylor cracked an empty chair joke.

We close the deal tonight. And I am really enjoying all these little short segue videos highlighting what dems have done and are for. On basic kitchen table stuff with ordinary folks delivering the message. It has a simple style, that kind of reminds me of the hokey commercials in the 50’s and 60’s for all sorts of useful products being created.
This is a well designed convention, that is both carefully scripted, but unpretentious, and filled with the spirit of service for both big and little things, that politicians have drifted away from in recent decades. If it doesn’t move the needle, then the needle can’t be moved, imho.
bemused
@Nellcote:
Yes! Myth Romney, lol.

Listening to NPR today when Michael Scherer commented that so far none of the speeches he heard were aimed at swing voters. I’m not sure why swing voters don’t care about medicare or medicaid, so it’s confusing as to what issues Obama should talk about specifically for that group.
Also, I heard a Kathy Hochul commercial yesterday in which she drew a specific distinction between herself and Obama, saying she voted for the balanced budget amendment and he did not, and how Washington was paralyzed by a lack of bi-partisanship. I realize she’s playing to her audience, but damn Kathy.
Suffern ACE
@Hal: Clearly, giving a nod to Bowes Simpson will rally those Americans Elect voters back into the fold.
Anne Laurie
@Poopyman: Well, by now it’s one of our tribal traditions. ‘Sides, I’m just glad to know he made it to the venue & got his credentials* and that his thumbs still work.
*Even if this means forgiving Erica Sackin for those endless hectoring emails.
Soonergrunt
@Poopyman: @Anne Laurie:
It’s all good. His house and all.
Soonergrunt
@Anne Laurie: If you want to edit this as well (cause I can’t keep up with everything) just go ahead. I know I missed the last couple of speakers for example.

@Hal:
Nor tyre-swing voters, apparently. Swing voters will make up their minds — as someone commented today — on things like federal jobs requesting five years of tax returns and Mittens releasing one and a half. There’s not much of a queue for the swing this year.
This is about galvanising the issues for the party faithful, getting people fired up to do the formal and informal job of grassroots campaigning over the next two months, and for pushing on registration and turnout, especially in a climate of state-level vote suppression.
JPL
@Anne Laurie: Who is Erica Sackin and do we trust her with the blog boss?
Trakker
Wow, the pundits at WaPost are just going nuts trashing the Democrats. Jennifer Rubin has been on FIRE all day! She even has a post about Biden that is dated September 8, 2012. Just in case she croaks before then I suppose.
Comrade Mary
@dmsilev: Obama is a fish?
Nellcote
@General Stuck:
It’s really been striking how THIS convention has embraced the “controversial” aspects (gays,choice,immigration etc) of the platform, loud and upfront.
General Stuck
@FlipYrWhig:
It’s electoral politics. You keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.

Tweety said that Obama’s speech is reported to be brief. I wonder what the means and how the media will spin it if his speech is shorter than Clinton’s?
General Stuck
@Nellcote:
I think it’s largely because the republicans have gotten so extreme and ever more pure right wing crazy, that the dem powers that be saw the opening, and took their chances coming out straight up what they believe.
For decades, we have been in an insincere dance with the goopers, anchored in the fuzzy middle, to move back and forth from that middle, whenever somebody thought we should. Not now.
Poopyman
@askew: Anything coming close to Clinton’s in terms of length is going to be closely compared to it, and I don’t think there’s anyone living who would come out ahead of Clinton on that.
He should keep it to under a half hour. Preferably a lot less.
Emma
@askew: They would be wasting their time. EVERYBODY knows Clinton is a motormouth. The media will get the stomping they deserve.

U2’s One as an anthem for the DNC? Weird.

@Emma:
@Poopyman:
That makes sense. Don’t know why I fell for Tweety’s concern trolling already. For some reason, I am really nervous about this speech.
Nellcote
Mary J’s rocking the house!
Lurking Canadian
@askew: No matter what the president does, the media will say it was a failure. A dove could descend from heaven and alight on his shoulder while a great voice filling the arena says, “This is my Chosen Annointed!” and the story on CNn will be that Obama jut didn’t connect with blue-collar men in the heartland.
Nellcote
@General Stuck:

Yay it’s goofy hat nite!

@Poopyman: Michelle’s speech was just a bit over 20 minutes and she sure managed to pack a wallop into that amount of time.
