Made it home about an hour and a half ago, had a joyous reunion with the pets, unloaded the car, then had what I like to call “vodka therapy,” and then cooked the ladies some ribeyes, bake potatoes, a garden salad, and some tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil with a touch of olive oil. It’s the quietest Imani has been all week.

Yum. Welcome home. :)
cathyx
So you did all the driving and then cooked the dinner? Where can I find a man like you?
Linnaeus
I don’t know if you do this, John, but I brush my potatoes in olive oil, then roll them in coarse salt before I bake them. The result is excellent.
Johnk
What is chiffonade and why does ABL want some? Come on, tell us the whole story, ya secrative basturd.
rikyrah
dude,
if you fed me like that, I wouldn’t be opening my mouth for anything but food.
damn, that looks good

And thus a thousand metaphoric comments were launched.

@Linnaeus:
Wow, my first comment here after years of daily lurking, and LMAO all week at the convention threads, and it’s to thank you for a baked potato tip! Can’t wait to try.
RedKitten
Those are some lovely cross-hatched grill marks on the steak. You do good work, Cole.
peorgietirebiter
Glad you enjoyed yourself. Your home looks pretty damn welcoming to me, maybe you talk nice to it for awhile. I was planning on a very light dinner, but seeing the baked spud has changed my mind.
Yutsano
So did Imani get Cory’s digits or what? These things matter you know!
bago
Jeezy frickin creezy, when will website managers, coders, and ad agencies stop using DNS for embedded resources? Seriously, having rendering block on a DNS lookup for a script resource that makes up an ad is just balls.
YellowJournalism
Oh my god does that baked potato look good. Just realized that I haven’t had one on a long time. Everyone here prefers theirs I either baby red, mashed, or french fry form. Sigh.
And mozzarella and basil? Yum.
ragingred
Um, are those Bac-Os? I surely hope not.
Garbo
Welcome home. We will try to be patient for your convention report. I said try.
From the view on my teevee it looked like an overwhelmingly positive, fun, optimistic, energizing event. If that’s what I got through the screen, I can only imagine what it was like in the room.
So glad you went.

BALLS. Nice job on the tater though. Paprika?
Narcissus
@ragingred: bacon makes everything better man

@Johnk:
Am guessing it’s different than a chifferobe.
Also, too, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is making my Friday evening all the better.

John, if those two girls have the sense that God gave a rutababa, they will never leave your house!

@cathyx: I found one like that in TN. They’re pretty rare.

orange Fiestaware never looked so good……..

@RedKitten: You could fucking play checkers on that. Nicely done, JC.

Was this the first time ya’ll had met in person?

@Johnk:
SiubhanDuinne
Huh. What happened to my comment?
cathyx
@Sister Rail Gun of Warm Humanitarianism: Good for you. But TN is way too far for me to go, even for a man.
mainmati
@Johnk: I didn’t see him mentioning chiffonade but basically it is a way of cutting up leafy veggies or herbs like basil that have relative uniform leaves. Stack leaves in a pile, fold and them cut across the pile narrowly to create ribbons of leaves: chiffonade.
Not a legal sexual maneuver however.
ragingred
@Narcissus I wholeheartedly agree, but Bac-Os do not equal bacon.
Linnaeus
@Santa Fe:
You’re welcome! Trust me, it’s good. One more thing: don’t wrap them in foil or anything like that when you bake them.
? Martin
@SiubhanDuinne: Cole chiffonaded it.
gogol's wife
@Sister Rail Gun of Warm Humanitarianism:
I got one too.
ABL
@ragingred: You insult him. They’re real bacon bits. :)
ABL
@ragingred: You insult him. They’re real bacon bits. :)
Raging Red
@Narcissus Agreed, but Bac-Os do not equal bacon.
raven
@Linnaeus: Ever try rosin baked taters?
Raging Red
@ABL He is redeemed.

Crap, now I have to go get something to eat, & it won’t look or taste nearly as good.
Yutsano
@ABL: Did you get the digits or not? SPILL WOMAN!!

Glad you guys had such a great trip. It seems that Imani in particular got a lot accomplished, blogger/contact-wise, and that’s terrific. (And I’m not even talking about that photo with Cory Booker.) All my bitching aside, it was easily worth the scratch to have you all there bloggin’, tweetin’, and representin’.
Villago Delenda Est
Dang, John, that looks very tasty!
jl
Glad ABL, Heather and Cole had a good trip, and safe trip back to W B G Va.
And, who’s plate was that? Better be another bowel of veggies (Cole).
Also, will follow ABL to see if she spills on the Cole AWOL.
Cole went from cranky Dad with his mandatory bathroom breaks to kid gone wild on Spring Break in no time, didn’t he?
Jade Jordan
You seem like a nice guy in spite of the whole WV thing.

I see the FPers are celebrating Bill Clinton’s DNC speech by consuming red meat. What’s next, accept Jesus Christ and move the capitol of West Virginia to Jerusalem?
Comrade Mary
John really likes cooking for people, doesn’t he?
Welcome back, y’all. (Well, Imani and Heather still have some travelling ahead of them). Rest up over the weekend!
(So was Tunch actually joyous about the reunion?)

Scorecard of the last five bj posts:
“Lustful cockmonsters”
“Pussycat”
“High-priced fellatio of the Beltway gigolos”
And three (count ’em, three!) pictures of meat, I say meat.
Is it the blog, or is it just me?
Welcome back hearty travelers. Rest you now.

Anybody watching Chris Matthew’s thingamajig about Barack Obama? Much of it has me in tears – remembering how hard the struggle was for Black Americans and the right to vote….and how far we have come in having an AA as President.
Yes, we can.
ETA: P.S. Welcome home – it was a wild ride, most enjoyable – even with the towel-head pics :)
RossInDetroit, Rational Subjectivist
Now, this is just awful. I’ve been on restaurant food all week and that baked potato looks delicious.
Welcome back, John. And thanks for the fine reporting. We look forward to the debrief.
Wow, that sounded naughty right in my head as I typed it.
TaMara (BHF)
@Linnaeus: Yes! This is the best way to bake a potato. Yum. And then of course you have to eat the skin, which is crisp and tasty. I know some people shun the skins, but this method can redeem them for many.
CarolinaDave
I’m so glad y’all had a great experience in my hometown. Imani, thanks for your pics and posts. I’m glad somebody kept the mission in mind. JC, I do appreciate the occasional post, opinion and observations on YOUR blog.
Glad your back home safely in West, By GOD, Virginia. A great meal in your home after returning from a trip is a joyful experience. Plus your kids. Did they miss you?
Comrade Mary
(You know what’s neat about leaving the ads turned on? This page displays an ad for Holy Crap cereal, which I’d seen on the shelves and hadn’t tried. You gotta love AI.)
John Cole
@Comrade Mary: Yes, I do. Especially for people I like.

Why is my comment in moderation? I was merely pointing out the randy strain through the previous posts using direct quotes from said posts. I didn’t blame it on the convention of whores, blasphemers, and satanic sexytimers like Eva Longoria, Scarlett Johanson, Ashley Judd, secret Head strumpet Sandra Fluke and her lovely purple dress, and our own ABL (by the way, nice outfit the other night). Nor did I speculate on the still secret activities of one John Cole, lapsed republican and closet master chef. Say, maybe the reason Cole doesn’t want pics taken is because he’s in witness protection. Maybe he was Dick Vader’s personal chef and just snapped when Dick would bellow ‘Where’s my lunch?! Where’s my dinner?! Where’s my hossenfeffer?!”
Shit,where was I? Oh yeah, I’m shocked, shocked to find gambling……
trollhattan
Am rewatching Granholm’s speech from last night. Holy hell, did she bring it. Bottle some of that, Dems.
The Pale Scot
Sounds like Lily and Rosie ate good, only right after leaving them all week. What’d the rest of you guys eat, Domino’s?
Violet
Welcome home, John. Glad you had a great time and that Rosie and Lily are doing fine.
The Fat Kate Middleton
@trollhattan: Goddamn, I loved that speech. After watching it, I made my husband watch it … then I watched it again. WoooHooo!

@var:
Such as…
Once John had the ladies in his house he slapped his meat down for them. While the ladies were worn out from their long, hard ride earlier in the day, the sight of John’s delectable meat quickly revived them. They thought his two smooth potatoes looked pretty damned good too.
Take it from there… ;p
BethanyAnne
@Johnk: Chiffonade? It’s a drink made from freshly squeezed chiffon.
AHH onna Droid
@The Fat Kate Middleton: wow, that was intense, focused and emotional. I got choked up watching.
Also, I agree she seemed loose but not drunk at all (motor control was good). Hmm.
FlipYrWhig
@BethanyAnne: When life gives you chiffon, make chiffonade.

@Comrade Mary:
Holy Crap is from people just down the road from me in British Columbia.
As for that dinner, it’s exactly what we had tonight. Except NY strip instead of rib eye. Fantastic.
