High-leverage targets

I’m going to keep raising money for my man metrosexual black Abe Lincoln, but there have been requests for other places to give among readers who are maxed out to Obama.

The Princeton Election Consortium has a link for giving to Democrats in “high-leverage races”, those where your money will make the most difference. (PEC is non-partisan so they’ve got one for Republicans too, but I am not nonpartisan so you can find that link yourself.)

Thanks in advance, as always.

I’m giving regularly to Warren and Sherrod Brown. I may give to Tester. I know he’s a bit of a BLue Dog, but he’s from a deep red state.

Also, too, I’m gonna repeat my question from the end of a tired thread
Am I epistemically closed, or is Bob Woodward’s book being greeted with a yawn? I see headlines here and there, but it seems like the left blogosphere doesn’t consider it worth responding to. If so, the indifference is long overdue.:

The review in the NYTimes was certainly tepid. But I’m not blogged up enough to really know the answer to your question.

and if you’re reading this blog, you knew this, but all they have is hate, and they have a lot of it

UPDATE: It seems there are consequences to bear-hugging the president. Scott Van Duzer, who became famous overnight for lifting President Obama, tells Politico that “people are saying a lot of bad things and boycotting my restaurant.”

I just did a thing on my blog–apparently the eternal pestilence of John McCain, Joe Lieberman and Lindsey Graham waded into Democratic politics by endorsing Howard Berman over Brad Sherman in California (we do a jungle primary->top two general election thing here now). Before I didn’t care much about what two awfully similar Democrats did to each other, but now I’m a Sherman man and I suggest anyone who lives in that district vote for him too.

Obama’s election chances going up are freaking out the wingnuts. From TBOBB:

The polls aren’t looking too good for Mitt “Mitt” Romney and panic is in the air. Despite the soothing dulcet tones of the Romney campaign, fear of The Return Of A Blah President has gripped the faithful who see the End Times drawing nigh and it is not the good End Times where White Jesus takes them up to the Heaven that looks like Augusta National Golf Club before they let the coloreds and the wimmins in. Oh no, it’s going to be more like Boyz ‘N The Hood + sharia law x Sandra Fluke performing abortions live on Nickelodeon. Also, more Kardashians, so no one wins.

For those who emphasize “better” in the phrase “more and better Democrats”, I recommend the ActBlue pages ceaselessly flogged by Howie Klein on Down With Tyranny

In recent weeks, Howie has spotlighted progressive opponents to Paul Ryan and Buck McKeon (the DCCC seems strangely reluctant to support Democrats who might upset the status quo), and has made a special pitch to help moderate Democrat Christie Vilsack unseat the odious Steve King (R, Iowa Taliban), and progressive Patsy Keever, who is running against the despicable Joe Walsh ($, IL)

But the entire ActBlue/Blue America progressive “better Democrats” slate deserves your support.

For Dog’s sake, people, if you’ve got so much money you’re maxed out to Obama, the DNC, the DCCC and the DSCC and you’re just aching to look for a place to send it, feast your eyes on these glad tidings:

Despite her national fan base and a massive war chest, Rep. Michele Bachmann may be in more danger than most suspect, with a new poll showing her lead diminished to just 2 points. Independent voters have swung against her by nearly 20 points in just two months, from a 4 percent advantage to a 15 point disadvantage. The internal poll, conducted by Democratic pollsters Greenberg Quinlan Rosner at the behest of Democrat Jim Graves’ campaign and shared with Salon, shows that Bachmann’s favorability rating has tumbled since their last survey in mid-June, and finds Graves gaining ground with independents as his name recognition grows.

Overall, the poll shows Bachmann leading Graves 48-46 percent, within the margin of error. The race has moved significantly among independents, with a 20-point net shift toward Graves, from a 41-45 percent disadvantage in June to a 52-37 percent lead now. Among independents, Bachmann’s favorability rating has slipped 4 points while her unfavorability rating has jumped 7 points. Overall, she’s viewed mostly negatively. Among all voters, 40 percent give her a positive job rating, while a sizable 57 percent give her a negative one, with a plurality of 35 percent giving the most negative answer possible — “poor.”

Then look at the Congress and get worried, then motivated.

We still have a coin-flip chance of losing the Senate.
The teabag jihad will probably retain control of the House.

The obstructionism of the last four years will be as nothing if the Rs take the Senate. Obama will be reduced to using the veto to prevent the worst, and much truly noxious legislation will get through.

Apparently the pizzeria owner in Florida who gave Obama a bear hug is facing threats of a boycott from local shitbag Republicans. So if you’ve got some dosh to spend, look for homeless shelters and soup kitchens in the Fort Pierce area, feed some needy people, and give a non-shitbag Republican some business.

    @burnspbesq:

    Yes, that’s a very R district.

But ol’ Buck has been repeatedly caught out on corruption: a special sweetheart loan from Countrywide is only the most recent. He has been widely publicize for paying his wife hundreds of thousands of dollars for acting as his campaign treasurer. And if there’s an R war on women, Buck is in the vanguard.

McKeon’s henchpersons were handily defeated for local R committee positions, and McKeon’s D opponent Lee Rogers did pretty well in the “jungle” primary, in which McKeon got less than 50% of the vote.

So maybe there’s a chance. And even if McKeon wins, it would do his district some good for a serious opponent to make the case against him. (Yes, I pine for Dr. Dean and the 50-state strategy, the best idea the Democrats have had in forty years)

The tragedy of the DCCC approach is that jackasses like Buck are never held accountable, because they never face serious opposition.

In yesterday’s Up with Chris Hayes, I learn that ads buy has more effects on local races than the presidential race and Romney’s ads are mostly not very effective. So maybe now it is smarter to donate to DCCC and to other vulnerable senate races to make sure President Obama have enough allies in the house and senate to help him push forward his policies.

Also SuperPac cannot buy ads at lower rates so it is more efficient to donate to the candidates directly.

@hep kitty: It is fascinating to see PUMAs get all excited– Harold Ford, Ed Rendell, Jim Moran declared Hillary “the most qualified person for the office since George Washington”; Ford says the Clintons “know how to deliver”; Rendell says Hillary would have handed Congress a health reform bill and made them pass it. I like Hillary Clinton a lot. I hope she does run and she will have my full support, but I see nothing in her actual career that makes these people get so excited.

But at least if Ford thinks he’s gonna be Hillary’s Secretary of Blue Doggery, we don’t have to worry about him going LieberRogue for the next couple years.
