Lost in the shuffle of the tragedy that occurred in Libya last night is the following horrifying story that will most assuredly go unnoticed by mainstream media outlets.
If you recall, a couple of weeks ago I wrote about a plot by militia group called F.E.A.R., members of which were active-duty soldiers at Fort Stewart in Georgia.
Today, five more people were charged in connection with the plot. Four of them are former Army soldiers, one is a civilian, and all are fucking crazy.

F.E.A.R.? I loved that video game.
Villago Delenda Est
OK, so they’re going to take on a post with 20,000 other active duty soldiers with 9 guys instead of only 4.
Still totally nuts.

@Villago Delenda Est: I know. And bombing the fountain in Hinesville has that extra flavor of “batshit crazy” to it.

I’m guessing Romney calls this “regime change” in a press conference later tonight.

I have the feeling that the Obama administration is down playing or even suppressing info about assassination plots, unlike the Bushies who liked to promote the mentally incompetent as scary terrorists that only they could protect us from.
I don’t think Obama wants it known how many people hate him enough to kill him nor does he want militias, white supremacists, or similar groups maintaining lists of martyrs to their cause.

@MonkeyBoy: OTOH, the recent Vanity Fair article on Obama included this:

90’s era efforts to keep militants out of the military have either failed or been dismantled – Wade Michael Page proved that, among others.

I keep telling you folks and no one listens: Conspiracies do NOT happen. It has been repeatedly said so here at BJ.
Spaghetti Lee
The idea of the president being shot isn’t very funny. But seriously…you’re in a secretive anti-government militia and you call yourself F.E.A.R? Were these guys auditioning for the role of Bad Guy in a new GI Joe movie or something?
Yutsano
Nope. No white terrorists here. Nothing to see. Move along folks.
PurpleGirl
OT: Yutsano: Can you tell me that web site for work at home jobs that you’ve often mentioned. I had the name written down and I can’t find it now. Thank you.
catperson
I made the mistake of clinking your supposed source links and once again got sent to your grifting operation. Fuck you, ABL. I honestly don’t know why Cole tolerates your presence.
Yutsano
@PurpleGirl: Here you go.
EDIT: meant to put it in the last jobs thread but I fergot. :/
PurpleGirl
@Yutsano: Many thanks. I’m bookmarking it this time.

I really do not get this “Go to my site to read the rest” crap. Not cool.
Or something like that.Suffern Ace
@BGinCHI: Yeah. But you don’t get points unless you guess where.

@catperson:
See the link that says “Via Online Athens”? That’s the source link. That’s why it says “via,” which seems to be an internet tradition with which you are not familiar.
You’re welcome.

Note that the FBI has to set up the “left wing” domestic terrorists, inventing their plots for them, providing their materials for them, etc., while the right-wing terrorists actually murdered someone.

@Spaghetti Lee:
It’s all about the mystique for violent organized criminals. Italian organized crime is famously influenced by portrayals of the Mafia in popular culture. It’s about living out a fantasy of personal importance, and the only source for that fantasy in current culture is the mass media. Even other influences (nationalism, Christian militarism) are mediated.
Go check out the Wikipedia pages on the mob sometime. There is no parsing fact from fantasy about names, traditions, etc. Too sexy for the authors, the crooks, the DAs and everyone else to avoid adding to the legend.

9 heavily armed white supremacists could probably do a lot of damage before the cavalry arrived. Even if they don’t overthrow the government. The likely success or failure of the venture probably doesn’t matter too much to some grunt on his way to the PX who gets blown away.
ABL
@Comrade Mary: Holy shite.
Arclite
Thanks for this story. Just don’t call it “terrorism.” They’re white boys, after all.
ABL
@catperson: Because he loves me. Fuck off.

You gotta check the link address in the status bar, LT. I love ABL too but I love the Balloon Juice commentariat more, so I’ve learned to just click the ‘read more’ unless I feel like foraging for links in the wild. Since it’s an ABL post, sometimes the source links are just some form of drama, it’s really the conversation I’m interested in.

@Comrade Mary: I heard the writer interviewed on Fresh Air last night and he mentioned that bullet hole. All I could think was “Shit. Shit, shit, shit, shit.” If I truly thought about the crazies I would go into a fetal position of fear on behalf of Obama. We will never know just how good the Secret Service has been in protecting him. But we all know in our bones that we’ve only heard about a tiny fraction of the plots and crazies out there.
I remember Michelle touched on this during the 2008 campaign and may have even given voice to The Fear. Basically that they know, but they can’t let it paralyze them. God bless them, but there are days it paralyzes me, like when I read about this plot.
Please, God, if you’re up there. Please, please, please. We need this man.
Carl Nyberg
I clicked through two maybe three of the links provided and I failed to get the full story.
ABL, please don’t attempt to be too clever by half. If you’ve got a story to tell, tell the basics in one place. A tease that links to an incomplete story is frustrating.
Atrios uses the tease or incomplete story format effectively, but when I click through his links, I almost always feel satisfied. When I clicked the links on this I kinda felt jerked around.

ZOMG! ABL HAS A LINK TO HER BLOG! WORST POST EVER!

@Villago Delenda Est:
I know, right? If it weren’t for the possibility that innocents could have been harmed, I would have loved to seen them try to take over a base with all that personnel and watch them get utterly destroyed.
I hope if they are convicted, they get the death penalty. Enough of all this bullshit.

@LT:
You’re not supposed to notice that, let alone mention it.

Thank you for reporting on this. While I do not consider myself ignorant, I do not have time to closely monitor all news (unlike Sarah P.), particularly that not deemed “worthy” of attention by the bigs. It is rather astonishing to me that a story like this is not even commented upon by the infotainment outlets, but the supposed lefty plots get plenty of coverage. Just our liberal media at work, I suppose.
