It is a good day so far, with KC and Oakland both on their way to losing.

You should also have a pot of simmering water with some apple cider vinegar in it for half time humidity snorts (Will clear the sinuses and make yelling at the TV much easier on your throat)
Mr Stagger Lee
What an embarrassment for the NFL finding that one of your replacement refs for a game he was to referee, was a fan of one of the teams playing. What a moran!

@Mr Stagger Lee:
Saints could have used him today.
Oh, well, there’s always 2013.

Suffern ACE
What are the tissues for? That doesn’t sound very confident.
catclub
@Villago Delenda Est: Union busting is tribal. Just as GM ignores the profit potential of nationalized healthcare — which would solve ALL their financial problems.
Mr Stagger Lee
@Villago Delenda Est: That is true, like the idiots in the NHL coming off one of their best seasons to piss away the goodwill with a lockout! Well at least they may have until January to solve this, since many sportsfans(except the hockey fans) won’t care. And maybe then it may not matter since there will be Basketball.

@Suffern ACE: Well if the replacement refs had tissues, they could use those instead of bean bags and such.

@schrodinger’s cat: those are your only choices. I love my Weber but you want the vent open at times. Even though I use disposable cake tins some ash escapes. A son who decided to visit and grill while barefoot can attest to that. Use the chimney starter they sell. You’ll be pleasantly surprised how fast the charcoal heats up. The aluminum cake tin lasts about a year. Enjoy

@catclub: The steam helps open the nasal passages and the apple cider vinegar is a antiseptic that can help kill bacteria. (you can use white vinegar but I like the smell of apple cider vinegar better) It can also be used in the neti pot but only at room temperature. It was my great grandmothers ( my Stadababa who was a slovak gypsy) cure for snotty noses and it works. You feel like you are going to cough your insides out but it clears you up and gets the gunk out.

The replacement refs are totally screwing up the Skins/Rams game. Jackson has just scored one touchdown and maybe two and all he got was a personal foul call after he protested. Ram fans are not happy.

So, two questions. 1) who the hell is Leonard Hankerson for the Redskins?
2) How the hell do you let him get 8 yards as separation down the middle of the field?

@ChrisB: I heard the end of that game on the radio, and the broadcasters seemed to think the second TB catch that took them to the 17 yard line was legitimate, but then the refs overturned it. I agree about the scab refs. Amateur doesn’t apply because it means done for the love of whatever, these guys clearly love money, not football.
They don’t have a clue about holding rules, placement of the ball after the play, how to determine if a ball was caught on the sideline, and in general how to be a professional official. The guy caught tailgating at the Saints games who expected to be
able to make money officiating a Saints game!?! WTF!
He’s lucky he was caught before the game, he could have lost his job(s) permanently if he was caught after officiating a professional game.
It all makes me glad the NFL owners don’t make a dime off me! I once bought a Green Bay Packers Tee at a discount store – I ran low on shirts on the road – but I’m pretty sure they didn’t make money on a sale there.
There were bad calls in the Cincy-Browns game, the Giants game, the Eagles game (these are the ones I sasw at least part of) and I expect to see some in the Stillers-Jets game.
Scabs are inherently seriously bad – they’re willing to screw their co-workers out of their jobs, even when they should know they can’t really do the job right in this case.
And the owners’ general NFL manager admits that they’re taking away the real refs pensions just to screw them and steal that money for already unspeakably wealthy team owners. It’s worthy of Willard Romoney, stealing from middle-class workers critical to their production of their product, in order to fatten the wallets of $$gajillionaire team owners. Repulsive and despicable, what we expect from rich Republicans.

Go Mountaineers!
My brother lives in Texas, and he told me fans out there thought it would be good to have another bye week playing WVU. His stock reply is “Then I guess you didn’t see the Orange Bowl?” I think this year’s team is pretty much as goos as last year’s, and maybe a little better to be producing this much offence so early in the season.
I just hope no one gets injured, and that the backup players get lots of playing time as we don’t run up stupid scores on those other Big 12 teams.
Go Mountaineers!

Go Jets!

@arguingwithsignposts: Unions MUST be broken – all unions all the time.
Historically the NHL has had the worst owners. In the old days many Canadian kids had the choice of hockey or the mines at Sudbury. Owners really owned the players. From the time they were teens. Without an education you damn well better do as you were told. Thats why a clowns like Dave Shultz were willing to take so many shots to the head.
When the NBA was a nothing league they decided to focus on the 1 or 2 stars on every team. It wasn’t Boston v LA it was Magic v Bird. You see what that made of the league. The NHL owners would never focus on stars because it would give power to the players.
Find college games, no goons and usually a superior game

@FridayNext:
There are only 2 things that’s bring the real refs back, one of which is not likely to happen:
(1) Fans tune out the NFL and find other things to do on Sundays; or
(2) Networks get bugged by longer games and start pushing the league to make a deal with the real refs.
Option one isn’t likely, as I’m lying on my ass all day watching football, just like millions of other Americans.
Option 2 is our only hope.

Amazingly, no hackitude today. Wilson cured his hand-off telegraphing and threw relatively well. Lynch got over a 100, and the offensive line held solid for once. But the big news was the special teams being special!

@JPL:
I liked Greg Gumbel telling Dan Dierdorff to stick it, when Vick had an incomplete forward pass that the refs ruled as a fumble.
I paraphrase
Dan: “Well, you know depending on your angle and you know how fast the game is, it could be viewed as fumble.”
Gumbel: “No there’s not. He was behind the 10 yard line and the ball hits the ground 10 yards down field. You don’t get that with a fumble.”
*********
The one call that really hurt the Ravens, that will probably be discussed in Baltimore but not nationally, was the offensive pass interference call in the end-zone, when it looked like #12 (I think) might’ve come down with a TD pass (I’m not sure he came down with both feet in bounds, but that’s another issue). It set the Ravens back 10-15 yards and made it harder to get a first down than an incomplete pass and forced a FG.
************
As long as the networks are getting ratings and the stands are full, the NFL has no reason to act about the refs.
If fans want real refs back, fans have to tune out.
************
I kind of like how the replacement refs aren’t calling pass interference like the rules say they should and are allowing the CB’s to clutch and grab the WR’s. Makes it a bit like old time football.
freemark
@gene108: Except when they call it when there is no contact at all like in the Steelers game. Luckily it didn’t change the outcome.
I assume the NFL doesn’t bother to read its Facebook page as almost every fan post there is asking to have the real refs brought back.
Svensker
Completely bogus call. Then the refs missed that Redman’s knee was down before the challenged fumble. Probably wouldn’t have made a difference because the Jets were totally out of gas at that point, but I hate all this ref crap.
Shouldn’t the fans start a call in program or something? I’m not going to not watch the games but dang, I’d sure make phone calls and yell at folks a lot. Can we get it started?
