Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

Come on, man.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

Let us savor the impending downfall of lawless scoundrels who richly deserve the trouble barreling their way.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

Today’s GOP: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

T R E 4 5 O N

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

Take your GOP plan out of the witness protection program.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the GOP

This blog will pay for itself.

If you are still in the GOP, you are an extremist.

Second rate reporter says what?

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

If you needed any more proof that Mistermix was dead on with his thesis regarding the feedback loop that is the modern GOP, here is Allahpundit reacting to the Mother Jones Romney videos:

The second video is of Romney joking that he’d have a better chance at being elected if he was Latino, which is almost certainly true.

Think fast- name all the American presidents with a Latino background, past and present.

The best take on this I’ve seen – and I can’t remember where I saw it – is that Mitt Romney is the son of George Romney, who was himself born in Mexico to White American emigre parents) and became the President of AMC and the governor of Michigan.

Now imagine the possible career success in the executive suites of AMC in the 1950s and with the voters of Michigan in the 1960s not of George Romney but of Jorge Ramirez.

Leaving aside entirely the question of how Mitt Ramirez, son of Jorge, would have played with the Republican Primary voters, without his daddy he’d never have gotten that far.

Romney Camp Silent On Whether Bain Purchased Brutal Chinese Factory
    BENJY SARLIN SEPTEMBER 17, 2012, 6:48 PM 4103
The Obama campaign is pouncing on a leaked fundraiser video in which Mitt Romney describes touring a factory in China as president of Bain Capital. According to Romney, the company packed workers into crowded dormitories behind barbed wire, while paying them a fraction of American wages.
Left unclear, however, is whether Romney ended up investing in the facility himself.[…]
“You know, that video’s old, you can call Bain and ask them what they did in terms of investing on it,” senior Romney adviser Ed Gillespie told reporters on Monday. “I don’t have any information on it.”

Ed Gillespie translated: “Hey, I just work here!”

Mittens will be speaking to a Latino group soon, if he has not done so already. I hope they have seen this video.

And again, this is about much more than conservative media feedback loops.

    @cathyx:

Are Latinos as hated as blacks among republicans?

There are women, gays, blacks, and Latinos in the GOP, some of them elected officials. A few, like Rubio, are seen as rising stars. And yet the GOP platform is pretty rancid with respect to any appeal for many Latinos, gays, women and blacks. It’s a fair question to ask why they stay in the party.

Of course, Malcolm X asked this question of black Democrats in the 60s. Go figure.

He is light olive if I had to pick a color, lighter than some Italians I went to school with but not Scandinavian white. He was marginally Republican but as he grew & moved around he has become a really good liberal.

2 things I learned about old country Cubans: They tend toward the GOP for reasons they can’t explain beyond blaming JFK for the Bay of Pigs and the old ones at least are very racist.

The Cuban revolution ended up primarily the darker underclasses against the wealthy lighter classes.

While at college My friend began dating a Cuban girl & thought his mom would be please since that was important to her. When he told her he was dating a Cuban she only had one question, “Is she a white Cuban or a black one?”

The Cuban revolution ended up primarily the darker underclasses against the wealthy lighter classes.

BEcause “hispanic” isn’t a race no matter how much racists in the US try top make it one. In every Latin American country I’ve ever been to they’ve referred to people as black, white, and native. It’s no surprise about who the underclass and overclass were in pre-revolution Cuba.

McCain made one unforced error after another not because of BHO.

Willard is just the best thing the current brain damaged excuse for the GOP can come up with. Again, not Barry’s doing but he sure is the beneficiary.

Regardless of how you feel about him or his politics he is one lucky SOB. No politician has run 3 straight ‘not a cakewalk’ campaigns against such incompetence. Sure some ‘seat for life’ pol but never an open Senate seat followed by two Presidential runs.

But I guess the nation is a beneficiary of this luck too. Imagine how much worse things would be if the GOP could have run a decent campaign & actually won?

    @Schlemizel:

2 things I learned about old country Cubans: They tend toward the GOP for reasons they can’t explain beyond blaming JFK for the Bay of Pigs .

They love the Republicans because the GOP hangs on to tired anti communist dogma and hints that they will depose Castro and return the wealth and status that the Cuban exiles lost. These people are like tired old Europeans trying to restore some dusty, anachronistic monarchy.

There was a very good PBS documentary about the exiles not too long ago. One woman still burned in resentment over her loss of status and servants. It was like the Real Downton Abbey with extra helpings of loathing for the commies for destroying their dreams of permanent plutocracy.

The Cuban revolution ended up primarily the darker underclasses against the wealthy lighter classes.

More complicated than that, and darker Cubans, like everyone else, were ultimately betrayed by the empty promises of the Revolution.

Regardless of how you feel about him or his politics he is one lucky SOB. No politician has run 3 straight ‘not a cakewalk’ campaigns against such incompetence.

When it happens over and over and over again, it’s not luck. Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, three times is enemy action. Yes McCain and others sot themselves in the feet. They only did it because they panicked against someone they were supposed to trounce.

Romney is the best the GOP had. People voted for him specifically because they knew the obvious bozos didn’t have a chance. Obama defined who Romney was over the summer when nobody was supposed to be campaigning at all. And that drove Mitt nuts.

Or maybe Romney ignored an old woman while on vacation in Hawaii:

Myths are told of Pele wandering up to people in the form of an old beggar woman, asking them if they have any food or drink to spare. Those who share with her are rewarded and spared. Those who are greedy and unkind to her are punished by having their homes or crops destroyed, so that they themselves may have to rely on the kindness of others.
