Czechoslovakia (disbanded in 1992) cannot fail, it can only be failed, according to Liz Cheney, who named it in a laundry lists of countries the Obama Administration has somehow betrayed. I guess Rick Santorum was right when he addressed the Value Voters Summit this weekend:

We will never have the media on our side, ever, in this country. We will never have the elite smart people on our side, because they believe they should have the power to tell you what to do. So our colleges and universities, they’re not going to be on our side.     Love the title, mistermix. I have a sort of fondness for the Austro-Hungarian Empire. My father’s parents came from a small town/village in Austria near where the border with Czechoslovakia was. Of course, they came the US around 1908 when the Empire still existed. I fought with my grandmother about European/Eastern block politics circa 1968-69 and had to always remind her that the Empire no longer existed. She pined for it mightily.

    Actually worse on that panel was when one of the hired ABC hacks, Jonathan Karl, asserted with a straight face that there was a problem with QE3 because the Fed needed to go back to it’s mandate to “control inflation.” That’s a false assertion, far more damaging than Cheney’s dumb line, because it passed as some some sort of expert “objective” fact.

    The reality is that the Fed’s mandate is, explicitly in the governing legislation, to use monetary policy to control unemployment, prices and long term interest rates. That they have far too often ignored unemployment in favor of inflation hysterics in the past may explain Karl’s ignorance. But frankly anyone pushing inflation fears – with inflation at historic lows – when unemployment is high and persistent is doubling down on idiocy. The rightward stench of Stephanopolous’ panels – where Cokie Roberts is a “liberal” – is proof that the “liberal media bias” whine is total BS.
