Is there a legal way to livestream NFL games? My mom is in Connecticut and wants to watch the Steelers game, and there is no sports bar nearby carrying it. Any ideas?

Can’t help you with how she can watch it, but you should be able to stream it on radio through WDVE (www.dve.com). Your hero Tunch is on the broadcast team.

I’m watching the jets on it right now.

Ask the NFL commissioner.

Man, there was a great site last year and I saw every game I wanted… Unsurprisingly however, the feds shut that party down sometime in the offseason…
I’ve scoured the net this season to no avail.
Davo
@TBogg:
Ha! Thats the site! They changed the address, cheeky bastards! Well, I’ll be..
General Stuck
The feds cracked down big time last season, and it was about impossible to get a live stream, and if you did find one, it would likely be shutdown after a few minutes. Don’t know about this year, but am not really interested in football these days.

Sadness on the West Coast. Niners are losing in Minnesota.

Also, what about this?
http://www.examiner.com/article/mitt-romney-paid-for-son-s-surrogate-abortion-contract-right-to-kill-fetus
Doesn’t the press believe in the right to privacy? Or do the Romneys think that business contracts supercede Republican philosophies on when life starts? I’m confused.
MikeJ
Some Girls, Live in Texas, 1978 is on the teevee, and I can’t figure out why they’re blurring Mick’s shirt.
Blurring has gotten out of control. They blur license plates on police cars on TV now. and of course anything with a logo. Yeah, I hate the constant commercialism of logos everywhere but I hate the editing of reality more.

@geg6:
Do they really steam it? A few years ago MLB quit letting the flagship radio broadcast stations from live streaming the radio feed.
(BTW, WDVE was my favorite station growing up).
raven
@TBogg: Look what I get when I hit that
http://www.firstrowsports.tv/
Cassidy
@raven: Saw that last night….not that i was looking for my sports streaming site that I only use to watch soccer and not other things at all.
geg6
@Napoleon:
I don’t actually know, but I’m pretty sure they do. It’s all Steelers, all the time on their website.
DVE isn’t what it used to be. I don’t listen to them as much as I used to. Their playlist is pretty damn tired and firing Jimmy Krenn wasn’t a move that went down well with a lot of people. Especially when they had to get three people to replace him, one of them being Scott Paulsen.
ETA: Just went to their website and, yes, they stream it.

Not much help right this moment, but for future reference:

Hell yeah!

@MikeJ:
I hear ya. And that’s from somebody who cut off her Calvin Klein logo tab off of some really cool purple jeans back in the day. Just because.
I can only imagine it has to do with ‘licensing agreements’, ‘product placement’ and suchlike.
raven
@efgoldman: Seems like you really should be doing something else.
MikeJ
@dance around in your bones: Just found it. Swastika.
http://michaelazerrad.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8347993c469e201675faf4658970b-400wi
So it probably wasn’t a licensing agreement thing.
ThresherK
So, Schiano is doing this then.
What I see at this point is a spot where the D can just wail on the O line (which has to stand stock still) with what amounts to no meaningful penalty. The D is already lost 99.9999999% of the games from this situation, what does it matter a 5 or 15 yards
additional?
And when it’s like today, it’s the offense’s choice to take that penalty (oh boy) or just let the clock run out. Time to rewrite a rule or two.
I think we’ve got ourselves into the situation that a premeditated penalty can be committed for which there is no punitive damage. What a deterrent that is!
Corner Stone
Nice Tecmo Bowl play there by the Texans.
dance around in your bones
@MikeJ: Ok. Swastikas are just verboten.
Corner Stone
Settling in for some really atrocious calls by whatever we’re calling these people in the black and white stripes.
rageahol
copyright’s a bitch, eh cole?
by the way, when are you changing your footer to reflect your “anyone can do anything they want with this?” position
Loneoak
No, there is no way to legally stream games unless you have one of those satellite packages. Exclusive contracts are killing football fandom, imo.
Corner Stone
YES!! Eat it!
Thlayli
Well, Detroit just came up with a creative way to lose a game.
Three points down, fourth and inches. Instead of the short field goal to tie it, they try the sneak but mess up the snap and don’t make it.
Thoroughly Pizzled
Argh, Lions. Where’s my bourbon?

@dance around in your bones: But it’s moronic. July 18, 1978, Mick Jagger wore a tshirt with a swastika on it. Blurring it denies that fact. Let people see what a desperate old man trying everything he could to be as relevant as the Sex Pistols would do.
Todd
This one is for you, Cole – Deadspin got some great mock going against Rich Rodriguez, slowed to ludicrously slow motion and set to indie music.

@efgoldman: Aha, so your analysis on the level of play and officiating is based on a casual glance now and then? :)
Todd
An interesting query. I watched So. Miss. get demolished last night, and was amazed that a team down by 25 late in the third quarter kept punting on 4th and short. Why in hell wouldn’t a coach shake the box and go for it?
dance around in your bones
@MikeJ: Oh, MikeJ, I agree.

Sling box. I even have an extra. Need a good Internet connection.

Has there ever been a better name for a defensive player than Mercilus?
Love that guy.
J. Michael Neal
@Thlayli: They fucked up the play, but going for it was still the right call. The alternative was to tie it with a field goal and then give the ball back to an offense that the Detroit defense had shown no interest in stopping in a situation where a field goal ends the game.
Morbo
@Thlayli: Painful, just painful.
Corner Stone
So, are the Lions just not that good or what?
Mnemosyne
@MikeJ:
I can understand blurring license plates, because people are assholes and some of those assholes have the ability to fuck around with government databases.
I am really sick of the blurring of logos, though.
arguingwithsignposts
@rageahol: what part of “is there a legal way” do you not understand?
Oh, right, it’s you.
Monty
I would recommend a Slingbox. http://www.slingbox.com If you plug it into your TV she can watch the Steelers game in High Def on a PC or Cell phone if she chooses. To go advanced you can get a WDTV http://www.wdtvlive.com and Plug it in via the HDMI connection and get almost full HD Direct to the TV from a Slingbox over the internet.

Freakin’ Texans TD bizerators!

You’re a Democrat and a liberal now, John. You don’t have to worry about the legality of such things. Also you get to ride public transit for free unless there is a Republican on board then you have to pay just for appearances. And didn’t they tell you about the special hedonistic orgy clubs for liberals? Didn’t someone send you the materials? Sorry. Libs suck at paperwork
The Dangerman
Didn’t watch more than the very end of the Saints/Chiefs game…
…but I could be a better official than the official officials. I really thought they were going to fuck the Chiefs on the OT TD call, but somehow they pulled their heads out of their asses. Clowns.
Morbo
@J. Michael Neal: Oh definitely.
As bad as that was, the end of the Jets/Dolphins game made me feel a little better. Miami tried to call their timeout and ice the kicker, successfully, but the play still went on resulting in a Miami blocked field goal. The timeout having been called, the Jets got a do-over and made the field goal. I have no rooting interest, but it warms the cockles of my heart whenever the stupid icing ritual backfires.
J. Michael Neal
@efgoldman: Looks like destruction to me.

Move to the west coast. It’s on out here. How can any one support a team with a rapist quarterback?
Temporarily Max McGee (Soon Enought To Be Andy K Again)
@geg6:
I don’t think so. You can probably get pre- and post-game programming, but the NFL (in conjunction with Sirius/XM) reserves the rights for on-line and out-of-market broadcasting. There’s been, for years now, a big disclaimer about this on the WTMJ AM 620 (Packers’ flagship) site.
If you want to legally listen to (radio) game broadcasts on-line, you can buy the package from NFL.com.
Flapjack Backpack
I would volunteer to read the play-by-play coming in on the wire, then recreate the action over the radio. Would that suffice?
PS. Which movie had a scene of this happening? I’m thinking it was A League of Their Own, but I’m not sure…
SamR
@Howard Beale IV: Yeah, that’s what I did this year, after my apt complex went to an exclusive contract with TW.
Amir Khalid
@MikeJ:
On that day, Mick Jagger was still a month shy of his 35th birthday — not among the youngest rockers anymore, and five years past Exile On Main St., to be sure; but not an old man by rock’n’roll standards even then.
MikeJ
@Amir Khalid: Increasingly irrelevant though, and a dinosaur compared to the bands that were hanging out on Kings Road at the time.
Another pic.
dance around in your bones
@Amir Khalid:
Amir, you always amaze me with your knowledge of Western pop/political culture – did you live in the U.S. of A. for a while?
Anyway, I very much love your well-informed comments.

Yeah, I remember where I was when I first heard Undercover of the Night. /snark

@dance around in your bones:
You are too kind.
Actually, no. I’ve never been in the US for longer than six days at a stretch. But these days all pop culture is global, n’est-ce pas?
MikeJ
@efgoldman:
Sure, but they could have, and arguably should have, stopped soon after the Beatles did.

@Amir Khalid:
I guess if you are tuned in/turned on to the Internets, no? You just seem remarkably well-informed.
More than most of my acquaintances in the SoCal area – they think nothing affects them personally, and they are SO WRONG. I wish I could convince them.

@efgoldman: Mays had the excuse that pro athletes weren’t properly compensated in the early days of his career. Had Mick and the boys hung it up after Exile they wouldn’t have had any trouble and we wouldn’t have missed much.

Some dirty shit by the Denver D on Schaub. Bullshit.

FIFY
A top three Stones’ lp, imo. Sure, they were touring in support of it, but look at what they wrote after Some Girls was in the can. That’s the problem by 7/1978: They’re running on fumes. What’s on a post-Some Girls greatest hits album? Start Me Up and…?

What’s with Steelers DBs and high tackles? Very dirty. Mundy should take a 4+ game suspension.

@S. cerevisiae: The real season starts this week. For us, at least. You guys are playing exhibition games.
Though, to be honest, the Whitecaps should be more of a challenge than Colgate.

Fucking Goodell’s replacement refs are too chickenshit to flag these dirty hits. How many more guys are going to get carted off because the players know they can get away with this shit?
