Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

Republicans do not trust women.

How any woman could possibly vote for this smug smarmy piece of misogynistic crap is beyond understanding.

In after Baud. Damn.

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Fundamental belief of white supremacy: white people are presumed innocent, minorities are presumed guilty.

Cancel the cowardly Times and Post and set up an equivalent monthly donation to ProPublica.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

“Just close your eyes and kiss the girl and go where the tilt-a-whirl takes you.” ~OzarkHillbilly

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

75% of people clapping liked the show!

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

One more celebrity weighing in on the imperatives of this election: (Bleeped, but not entirely SFW)

<div align=”center”><iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/-ZQ-K2qb9PY” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe></div>

(Non-bleeped, unequivocally NSFW original here.)

In other news — I just this moment received an email from one Barack Obama, asking me to send money…to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.  I know this is pretty close to routine, but still, I take it as a good sign for both the presidential race and what’s happening down ticket that he’s extending the use of his network to support the rest of the party.  It isn’t a big thing, of course, but still a positive.

And yeah, I know this is another drive-by post, but work is still brutal.  TL;DR posting to resume…but when? I dunno.

To show the alternative reality that goes out on Fox News, we have Worst Person of Two Decades (Newt Gingrich) make the following unchallenged, outrageous comments on Faux News (I wonder what kind of myth he is dealing here).

Here’s Newtie being a racist piece of work:

    http://thehill.com/video/campaign/258689-gingrich-obama-not-a-real-president

“[Obama] really is like the substitute [National Football League] referees in the sense that he’s not a real president,” Gingrich told Greta Van Susteren on Fox News Tuesday night. “He doesn’t do anything that presidents do, he doesn’t worry about any of the things the presidents do, but he has the White House, he has enormous power, and he’ll go down in history as the president, and I suspect that he’s pretty contemptuous of the rest of us.

This is a man who in an age of false celebrity-hood is sort of the perfect president, because he’s a false president,” he said. “He’s a guy that doesn’t do the president’s job.”

You have to wonder what he’s doing. I’m assuming that there’s some rhythm to Barack Obama that the rest of us don’t understand. Whether he needs large amounts of rest, whether he needs to go play basketball for a while or watch ESPN, I mean, I don’t quite know what his rhythm is, but this is a guy that is a brilliant performer as an orator, who may very well get reelected at the present date, and who, frankly, he happens to be a partial, part-time president.”

Newt, perhaps he is not a racist, but he certainly plays one on TV.

And to think he and Santorium came closest to acing Romney out of the nomination. And the Republicans wonder why they are losing outside the South.

My reaction (and obviously a lot of other people) to Jackson’s use of “fuck” is not unlike the voice of Richard Burton. Back in the day it was said folks could listen to Burton simply read names out of the phone book and be entranced for hours. Jackson could do the same thing as long as he librully sprinkled “fuck” in there.

Yunno “Jim FUCKING Smith” or “Fuck Joe Jones” and so on. He’s got a great voice in a unique way I’ve never been able to describe. It reaches it’s apotheosis whenever he says “fuck”.

    Heh. TPM:

The Obama campaign released an ad Thursday that simply plays Mitt Romney’s remarks about ’47 percent’ of Americans without any additional commentary. As the ad replays his comments, it shows a series of pictures of American families, workers and veterans — all members of the approximately 47 percent of Americans who did not pay income taxes in 2011.

I can just imagine the whining that is sure to soon emanate from the Romney campaign: “He’s quoting Romney’s words! That’s not fair!”.

To some people, the appeal of Faux News and the pull of fundamentalism is the same: it is certainty.

Frankensteinbeck said, a few days ago, that as a society we blame all kinds of things on anything other than the true cause: an abusive parent.

In my experience, conservatives can have many different kinds of upbringings, but arbitrary, authoritarian, and senseless rule setting, with oversized punishment for the most tiny things, is a norm for them.

So, they recreate it in their adult life.
