Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

Peak wingnut was a lie.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

He really is that stupid.

Happy indictment week to all who celebrate!

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

American History and Black History Cannot Be Separated

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

Second rate reporter says what?

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

The GOP is a fucking disgrace.

Today’s GOP: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

“woke” is the new caravan.

I didn’t have alien invasion on my 2023 BINGO card.

Wingnuts Convinced Grover Norquist is Working with the Muslim Brotherhood

If you lie down with dogs, you wake up with crazy.

Grover Norquist, the guy who smarmily strong-arms almost every Republican into swearing an oath never to raise taxes, may be an Islamo-fascist Muslim sleeper agent — according to conservative hatemonger and Islamophobe David Horowitz.

Grover Norquist’s crime? He’s married to a Muslim-American! ::gasp::

Horowitz: We have a medieval enemy with twenty-first century technology aimed at us, they’ve infiltrated our government. If you wondered how it’s possible that Obama and Hillary would not know or would pretend what was happening wasn’t happening in the Middle East or how they could turnover Egypt as they have to the Muslim Brotherhood, which is the fountainhead of Al Qaeda and all of these terrible Islamic Nazi organizations, the answer is not really hard to find: the chief adviser to the American government on Muslim affairs, Hillary Clinton’s deputy chief of staff, Huma Abedin, is a Muslim Brotherhood operative and she has been all her life, and her whole family is. This is worse than Alger Hiss, for those in your audience who are old enough to remember, Alger Hiss is a Soviet agent who was right next to Roosevelt at Yalta.

Mefferd: It’s very true and yet you had these five congressmen, Michele Bachmann and the others, who tried to say the inspectors-general need to look into this, and even Republicans stood up on the floor and said no!

Horowitz: You had Boehner and McCain, and McCain is just bonkers. But the Republican Party has also been infiltrated. Grover Norquist is a Muslim, he is a practicing Muslim.

This isn’t the first time Norquist has been accused of being a radical Islam sympathizer. Noted right-wing lunatic Frank Gaffney also thinks Grover Norquist is up to something.

Back in January 2011, Gaffney penned an article in WorldNut WorldNet Daily in which he claimed that “Grover Norquist is credentialing the perpetrators of this Muslim Brotherhood influence operation. … We are in a war, and he has been working with the enemy for over a decade.”

I have one thing to say to Norquist: Neener.

Grover Norquist is a Muslim, he is a practicing Muslim.

Is that true? I know his wife is a Muslim and can’t imagine how he can have any status in the Republican party given that, but have been curious if he’s Muslim or not. How the hell did he marry a Muslim woman anyway, since he’s a Republican? Dumb career move for a Republican.

If Obama wins, we can expect an uptick in bombing and shooting threats by deranged conservatives.

However, even if Romney wins the fever swamp might lash out all the same. Guess it’s what happens when the system spends 30+ years making excuses and coddling the vilest, most bigoted part of its base.

That’s a beautiful thing. Norquist is the guy trying to get something named after Reagan in every state. Or is it every county? He’s the guy with the “drown it in a bathtub” quote. He organized the demonstrations against counting the votes in florida in 2000. His fingerprints are on EVERYTHING! How beautiful that the snarling chihuahua pack has chosen him for their next meal.

The SoCon/Christianist wing is going to have a field day with the fact that the party nominated a heretic/cultist to run against the mooslem usurper. I think there were a few disgruntled and complaining conservatives quotes about the whole wife issue at the time. I think it came up again during the Cordoba Center split.

No, not even, not this time. This was as simple as “we need a new overarching enemy, 9/11 finally gave us the opportunity, and if we have to throw one of our own demographic groups under the bus, so be it.” The conservative base jumped on the islamophobic bandwagon just that quickly, the establishment hung on until 2008, but at this point has mostly given in too.

It’s one of those incredible shifts that’s gone completely unnoticed in the “we were always at war with Eurasia” media. Almost as weird as of Republicans suddenly ran Cuban Americans out of the party.

He goes after what he wants as with his no tax agenda, and lets nothing get in his way. If Horowitz or Gaffney get too annoying, I wouldn’t be surprised if Grover would find some way to punish them.

The SoCon/Christianist wing is going to have a field day with the fact that the party nominated a heretic/cultist to run against the mooslem usurper. Remember back in 2008 when the party nominated a “RINO” Senator who couldn’t beat the communist mooslem usurper wannabe? And how for the next four years the party base struck out at anything and everything?

Yeah – they’ve been doing that and they still got Romney. In fact, he was the only clown in the clown car that was taking the nomination process seriously. The rest of them were a pack of grifters looking to latch onto some serious speaking tour wingnut welfare gigs.

But beyond that, what the fuck is wrong with these asssholes like Horowitz (not a typo; he’s so awful, “asshole” needs three ses to describe him)? Huma Abedin is a Muslim Brotherhood agent? Isn’t she the woman whose husband is Anthony Wiener? Do Jewish guys routinely go around marrying Muslim Brotherhood agents? Am I missing something?

And beyond that, what is this hard-on they have with President Obama “letting” the Muslim Brotherhood win an election in Egypt? What do they think he should have done? I really want to know this, since they bring it up so often. What would they have had him do? Bring back Mubarak and have the U.S. Army put him in by force? Start a war with Egypt? Bomb the country off the map? I can’t understand what they’re thinking. It’s like getting pissed off at Latvia because they “let” us elect President Obama in 2008.

I remember some people predicting a GOP civil war after 2008. The problem is, it takes two sides to have a civil war, and the moderates just weren’t there. Not even on the East Coast could you find enough sane Republicans to mount an opposition to the teabaggers – they’d all been purged in the eighties or at most, 1994. So instead of a civil war, all we got was another purge, the victims of which weren’t even moderates so much as designated scapegoats.

The next purge is going to be fucking fierce, too.

Wingnuts have mistrusted Norquist for awhile. Here’s a Michele Malkin post from 2009 titled “The GOP’s Grover Norquist problem and the RNC debate”. It includes various bits about how he collaborated with the enemy (People for the American Way) and then moves on to how he “forged even more dangerous alliances in the name of Muslim GOP outreach.”

Malkin doesn’t bring up his wife, but the commenters sure do:

No offense, but if his wife is a Muslim – throw his a$$ out until Muslims worldwide recognize the right of Israel to exist. All is clear now…

He is Muslim, otherwise his Kuwait born Palestinian wife would have been killed by her parents.
    __
A Muslim woman can’t marry an infidel.

Yup, Samah Norquist, Grover’s wife, is a practicing Muslim, which means, by default, he must have converted.

Great…how many more turncoats to conservatism will we have to get rid of before its over with? Norquist is a tool who must be shunned.

Grover was born on October 19, 1956 (Happy Birthday!), and didn’t get married until 2004, and then he married a Muslim? At age 48? Who worked in a government job?

Wikipedia (you are warned): “In 2004, at age 48, he married a Palestinian Muslim named Samah Alrayyes, a Kuwaiti PR specialist who was formerly a director of the Islamic Free Market Institute and specialist at the Bureau of Legislative and Public Affairs at United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The couple has two children adopted from abroad. Norquist is said to live a modest lifestyle. According to friend and former roommate John Fund, Norquist’s devotion to his political causes is ‘monk-like’ and comparable to that of Ralph Nader.”

The notion that there might be just as many cafeteria Muslims as Christians is just inconceivable.*

Of course, they think of themselves as practicing Christians with no contradictions between their own actions and what they follow, so the delusion’s about more than just Muslims…

(*That’s ignoring the fact that the Koran, to the best of my knowledge, doesn’t actually forbid marrying an infidel, especially a Christian or a Jew. Tradition does forbid that, but that’s not quite the same thing and there are more than a few Muslims who’ve rationalized their way around that by figuring “well, it’s not GOD/Mohammed who said it, after all.”)

Getting legislators to sign a pledge to NEVER RAISE TAXES is a good way to attack the well-being of the US from the inside. Overt terrorism isn’t the only way to destroy a country.

Now, if our insane Republican legislators could just put two and two together (lower taxes = Muslim extremism) they would reject Norquist’s pledge and begin the long, long trek back to sanity. I don’t expect to win over these lunatics with rational arguments, but unless they change their ways, we’re in for a long slide into oblivion. Horowitz was only kinda-sorta a Trotskyist. More like an aficionado of Isaac Deutscher than an operative member of a Trotskyite sect – like Bill Kristol’s dad and some of the other old neo-cons. But, frankly, I don’t think there’s anything particularly ironic in that personal history. It’s indicative of a mind-set. Except that he was actually more reality-based and less of an unhinged prick when he was part of the far left. When he edited Ramparts magazine, he actually tended to criticize people on the Left who were as wildly irresponsible, dishonest and fringe as he is now as a Right-wing crank/grifter.
