From commentor FoxinSocks:
True to her name, Snow White is a drop dead gorgeous medium/long haired all white beauty who was saved from an unspeakable fate. She was rescued by the MCSPCA from a high kill shelter in Kentucky just in the nick of time – hours before she and her kittens were to be euthanized. Now she is looking for her forever home where she can feel loved and safe. Snow White is housebroken and has perfect house manners. She is a petite sized, dainty little girl, approximately 1-2 years old. She likes to scratch on her scratching post and loves playing with her favorite toy – a teaser toy with feathers on the ends.
Snow White and her baby Kentucky Blue are very bonded with one another so are looking for a place that will love them both…
Kentucky Blue will have you laughing and entertained for hours on end with her playful kitten antics. This young black and white medium/long haired ball of fun is better than TV – and much more interactive. Blue and her mom, Snow White, were rescued by the MCSPCA from a high kill shelter in Kentucky just in the nick of time – hours before they were to be euthanized. Blue loves to curl up on your lap or in the crook of your neck. Her purr can be mesmerizing and a wonderful stress-reducer. She has not seen a toy that she doesn’t love to play with. Blue is perfect with the litterbox and has had no accidents. This sweetheart is not shy at all and will quickly fit into any home where there is love.
Snow White & Kentucky Blue are now on Petfinder here and here — if you have questions they can’t answer, send me an email and I’ll pass it along to FoxinSocks.

Oh, my goodness! Look at those eyes! How incredibly cool. I hope they can find their forever home. Look like total sweeties.

I had an odd-eyed like that (although this one has an almost white eye instead of blue)…striking effect.

WOW. These two are beautiful. Living works of art.
I’m sure they will be adopted quickly.

Ooooh. Effing gorgeous, both of them. Ship them to London asap and I promise a happy lifetime of tuna, cuddles and squeaky toys.

I adopted a cat last thursday – a six year old pure black shorthair named Edward. Went in to pick him up on friday and found out he’d been moved to the sick ward. Waiting for word that he’s in the clear and I can pick him up and bring him home. I know he’ll be in a separate room from my 12 year old tort for at least a week until I can get him in to my vet for a check up (This is the last time I’ll post about this until Edward is in my home. There will be pictures).
Kentucky Blue looks like he’s smiling. What a cutie.

What lovely cats. I hope someone scoops them up and takes them home.
I am wary of opening my back door these days. It’s right around this time of year that a cat will show up either in the yard or at my back door and give me the “Hey, it’s been a great summer of being semi feral, but it’s cold now.” look. I am powerless against that look, which is why I have four cats.
WaterGirl
@gbear: I’m glad you posted an update! I know you hoped to have the weekend to get him settled in and now you want to have him checked by your vet. Maybe the shelter would keep him until friday so you can be home with him next weekend? That would also give you less time where you absolutely have to keep the kitties separate.
@Yutsano: Is steeplejack looking for someone to keep his new kitty company? (I have mostly been away from the blogs for a few days because all the obama doom and gloom makes me nervous.)

Gorgeous!!!!
Hey, what ever happened to Ben in Mount Laurel NJ. I sent you an e-mail about him but never heard back. Did he find a home?

@gbear: OK, I lied. I just got a call from the Humane Society. Edward is in the clear and I can go pick him up today. Yay!!

@gbear:
I’ve been following your saga, and hope your new kitteh gets well very soon so he can come live with you. Looking forward to many pictures of Edward, and amusing anecdotes.
And wow, Snow White and KY Blue are gorgeous! It was nice to see that they’re so bonded with each other; I do hope they can stay together.

@gbear: YAY!!

@WaterGirl: The earliest I could get an appointment with my vet was the 16th. The Humane Society vet just screened Edward for feline leukemia and the results were negative. He’s up to date on rabies and distemper shots. I want to go get him today. He’ll be isolated from my other cat for a week or two. I’m going to go very slowly on the introductions given that they’re both adult cats.
ETA: next update later this evening.
WaterGirl
@gbear: Oh, yay! That’s so great. Congratulations.
I picked up my puppy exactly one year ago today. My calendar entry says “pick up new guy”.
Do you have a name yet?
Edit: I see Edward does have a name already. Also yay on the (no) feline leukemia. I’m so glad you get to bring him home today.

@MoZeu: My understanding is that the person who rescued Ben discovered he had an owner, who was distraught that Ben had gotten out and, after hearing of the manager who was trapping and destroying strays, vowed to never let him outside again. For a couple of days. Apparently he showed up again in his usual spot.
The poster has since moved, and I don’t know if s/he has any more Ben related news. Sorry.

Ah, Kentucky Blue. Good girl.
I once loved a wise and wonderful cat who had a very glamorous mom.
[Hey, Zephyr. I still remember you.]

@debit: Thank you for posting this! I really fell in love with him at first sight. Hope he’s OK :(

Sunshine is the NYC kitty from last week that I can’t forget about.

I want to adopt all the cats. :C
FoxinSocks
Thanks, all! If you can believe it, Momma and daughter have been up for adoption for about 9 months. I think part of it is luck and part of it is that we’d like them adopted together, if possible. But they’ll stay with their awesome foster mom (not me, though I have my own group of wonderful foster cats) until they find a home.

@gbear: Oh frabjous day! Calloo callay! Ahem – Lewis Carroll fan. I’m so happy for you!
Teeny tiny Bors got a home!
Tweeted out the Petfinder links and put on my website in the Latest section. Hope it helps.
I would take both in a heartbeat. Blessings on those who gave them a chance.

When I got back from vacation a month ago, there was a kitten living on my roof. I have no idea how it got there. The only way in except for the front door is up three stories of sheer concrete.
For two weeks I thought it was a rat, because all I saw was the occasional flash of grey out of the corner of my eye as it skittered from one piece of cover to another (there’s a lot of junk out there – old furniture, cat trees that have fallen apart, etc.) But I couldn’t figure out why if it was a rat my other two cats weren’t going bugfuck.
Long story short, it’s a Russian Blue mix, maybe 10 weeks old, with a damaged eye – ulcerated cornea, probably from an infection – but otherwise healthy. It was pretty traumatic for her being caught – probably the first time handled by a human – thrown into a carrier and taken down to the fear-smelling bright light stabby needle place, and she spent the first week after that hiding behind my bed and only coming out to eat and poop when I wasn’t around. But now she’s happily sharking around my feet, exploring the apartment and furniture, and trying to entice the other two to play with her (one’s indifferent, the other actively hostile).
I’ve named her Streak.

That made me smile, partly cause it reminded me of when my sister adopted their new puppy about a year again. They were adopting thru a Shepherd rescue group and it was a rather long process. One night they finally got the green light. Wait till the next day? Are you kidding? Everybody, Steff, hubby Art, Evan and his girlfriend, had to immediately pile into the car to pick up the new family member.

We can haz football open thread?

The white one is an Angora. From Turkey, national cat. I had one because of memories of the ones my grandmother had. Yankee traders brought them home to New England area where they probably became one of the ancestor breeds of the maine coon cat. The odd eyes are typical though still a minority in the breed. It almost died out and the breed was preserved by the Turkish National Zoo. they are actually displayed in zoo cages which I find really weird. A related breed is the Turkish Van which has the Auburn head and tail markings and likes to swim. Angoras are normal and don’t usually like to swim. Tunch has been suspected to be part Van. Sometimes the blue eyed angoras are deaf. The coats are much silkier and thinner than persians. they are easier to keep and don’t matt as much.
Mine really liked to cuddle and knew how to use her cuteness to manipulate even strangers who said they were afraid of cats.
Maude
There was an Angora on a street by a paint factory. The paint factory blew up and the cat was powder blue.

Those eyes…
And the mom is good looking, too :P

@gvg:
Angoras also have a tendency, in a multi-human home, of latching on to one human as the favorite. It’s not that they disdain other humans, it’s that they just like one more, and hang out with them more.

@Villago Delenda Est: Maybe that explains Monster, who I think is at least part angora. I am hers and she treats everyone else with disdain. She only tries to get attention from others if she wants me to feel guilty about ignoring her. (She has also mastered the art of eating a small piece of plastic in order to make herself throw up if I am not paying sufficient attention to her.)
I’m not so sure about liking me more, though. It’s more like I am the center of the universe that she didn’t get to choose. It’s like family; you’re stuck with the center of the universe you’re given. Monster isn’t so much a pet as she is a six pound stalker.

I want…unfortunately, can’t have. Snow White looks like a wise kitty.

@gbear: Congrats! New furry babies are always so exciting!
We’ve had our pup Luna for two and a half years now (adopted from the Humane Society) and cat overlord Zelda for almost two years (stray starving kitten I found on the roof of my mom’s row house). This is in addition to kitty Scout, who I adopted from a friend whose cat had had a litter of kittens about seven years ago. I know I have enough, but I kinda want another one. I love getting new pets.

Off-topic, but did anyone else know that the Muslim rebels in the southern Philippines, with whom the Philippine gov’t has jut brokered a peace deal, call themselves the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, aka MILF?
It just seems like a terribly unfortunate, not to mention inappropriate, acronym. I’m guessing all their interviews with American reporters begin with some variation of:

@gbear: Good news for you, better for the cat. Hope to hear more.

If anyone is still checking into this thread, Edward is home and happy to explore his new room. Edward is a climber so I’ve been doing what I can to protect things. Halley knows there’s a cat in the back room and she’s not freaking out. I was playing with her just outside the door and she’s cool.
I’ll repost in the next open thread that’s relevant.

@gbear: YAY! He’s beautiful, as is Halley. Hilarious that B-J is on the screen in the background with that beautiful cat photo. Glad all is going well.

We had an angora for about 13 years. He was deaf, and had the two different color eyes. Great cat.
WaterGirl
@gbear: Hi, Edward! Nice to meet you, and welcome home. They are both beautiful!
I remember when I brought my first cat home to join my border collie (ish) and my cocker spaniel. Dogs had one half of the house, new kitty had the other. I seriously thought my cocker spaniel might spontaneously combust as she sat on her side of the door for about 24 hours. Oh my gosh, I was afraid it would never be okay. But as soon as I opened the door on day 2 or 3, Murphy realized the new kitty was someone new to love, and all was good.
Halley not freaking out is a great sign.
So excited for all of you!
