Mitt Romney is Pandering to Women About Abortion — No Wait — WTF?!

by Imani Gandy (ABL)|  October 9, 201211:05 pm| 60 Comments

This post is in: The War On Women, Vagina Outrage, Women's Rights Are Human Rights, Romney of the Uncanny Valley

FacebookTweetEmail

Mitt the Liar said today that there are no abortion laws that he is “familar with” that would become part of his agenda***:

“There’s no legislation with regards to abortion that I’m familiar with that would become part of my agenda,” the GOP presidential candidate told The Des Moines Register’s editorial board during a meeting today before his campaign rally at a Van Meter farm.

To that, I say: BULLSHIT.

***In the time it took me to write this post, he already walked back his comments. Dude is a flip-flopping fuck wit.

This is it. This is the Etch-A-Sketch moment that we’ve been wondering if it ever was going to happen. It’s happening, it’s real, and it’s frightening.

This is RMoney finally acting like the Moderate Governor of Massachussetts.

The question is: how do you fight against this? It’s like Shrub’s “Compassionate Convervatism”. People bought that horseshit hook, line, and sinker.

    Romney a flip-flopper? You don’t say.

Lying comes as easy to this tool as breathing oxygen comes to most people.

I can’t believe there are people out there who believe anything that comes out of Romney’s mouth. I look at them like I look at someone who just told me they saw Bigfoot in their living room.

Mitt “won” the debate by suddenly morphing into a moderate and lying his ASS off about everything that he’d stated as a position for a year and a half prior. The base now knows that this is what he has to say to get elected, and they’re locked in. He’s pivoting to the center and it’s understood and planned in advance. Now to see who falls for it. (the entire press)

I saw a clip of Romney giving testimony over a visit from some dude that would soon pass on in hours or a few days; it was a bravura performance. He’s conning the rubes and his base is more interested in beating Obama then having any concern over electing a charlatan. I can easily see him winning with such a strategy.

    THIS IS A WHAT IF/JOKE/SATIRE!!!

Once Obama wins re-election, he should find out everyone who voted for Rmoney and round them up and put them in camps – geology camps, agriculture camps, urban sanitation camps, etc. Lots of camps.

Since, clearly, anyone who would vote for Rmoney is a deficient example of the human species and a future serial killer, so why not “retrain” them now, before they do any greater harm? Would this not be a way to create instant peace in America and the world?

Also, too, When working for Bush/Cheney in 2004, a guy named Mitt Romney said, “And an effort by one candidate to say oh this recession and the slowdown in jobs was the result of somehow this president magically being elected – people in America just dismiss that as being poppycock and they recognize it as that.”

TV ads showing video clips of Mitt’s various positions on the issue. Especially effective if he changes his position on the same day.

Then at the debate and via surrogates come up with a good line along the lines of “Which Mitt will show up?” Make a game/graphic/whack-a-mole type thing where if you hit the Mitt that says X, he pops up here saying something Y. Make it The Thing People Know About Mitt Romney–he’s always changing his positions, will say anything to survive.

Bring back the Etch-a-Sketch, use it in an ad with Mitt changing his positions. Make sure the ad shakes it the Etch-a-sketch violently between each version because it’ll look dramatic and scary (use scary music). Hand out/give-away free Etch-a-sketches for donations.

The big question, is that enough to overwhelm the ignorance, hatred, and boundless reserves of spite held by at least 45% of the electorate, who would gladly burn every last thing down just to stick it to a Democrat? The best we can hope for is to hold it below 50%. This is what our aspirations have come to.

Its time for Obama to drop the bullshit bomb on Romney at their next debate. I envision something along the lines of, “After careful consideration of the innumerable distortions you and your running mate Mr Ryan have made regarding me and my record, I have one word for you. Bullshit. Your tax plan is bullshit. Your foreign policy is bullshit. Your current approach to healthcare is bullshit, although in the past you’ve been a national leader in the rational retooling of the healthcare system.

I’ve been following the election closely for well over a year. I’m actually struggling to come up with what Romney would do if he won.

    * 20% across the board tax cuts that won’t touch revenue and won’t change how much each bracket pays and is balanced with something unspecified.
    * Repeal Obamacare, but implement a health care plan that does everything Obamacare does except for the mandate and cost money.
    * Fix Medicare without causing any problems for anyone and awesomely, but only after his second term is over because it’s just too good for the current people on Medicare.
    * Repeal Dodd-Frank but fix financial regulation but get rid of job-killing regulations.
    * Grow the economy by being elected. No plan is actually needed.
    * Abortion? Never heard of it.
    * Immigration reform will happen but will keep Obama’s policy but will get rid of Obama’s policy.
    * Will withdraw troops from Afghanistan unless he doesn’t want to do so but won’t give a timetable because weakness.

    …

Seriously, I think the only actual promises he has is to cut funding for PBS and Planned Parenthood.

I don’t know what the electorate will look like this year, but this is the breakdown from 2008.

    http://elections.nytimes.com/2008/results/president/national-exit-polls.html

Any poll with a cross tabs that are wildly outside of this is probably crap. So from now on if I say a poll is crap this was my reference.

    Jut as an example:

    2008 electorate: 74% white, 47% male, 43% over 45 and 32% South

    Yesterday’s Pew Poll: 84% white, 44% male 70% over 50 and 38% South

The only measure that was close was the gender breakdown.

@TexasMango: Pollsters usually correct by using demographic weightings. I know there’s been debate among pollsters about what demographic weightings they should be using, but I don’t recall anyone saying they thought the white vote would be greater than 78%, which I think is about what the 2004 number was. It’s certainly not going to top that for a candidate like Romney. My neighborhood, which had a large number of McCain signs in 2008 has not a single Romney sign. This does not mean they are not going to vote for him, but it does suggest that there is no great love for him.

Needs to be painted as exceptionally scary. Pictures of 1950’s Leave It To Beaver-style kitchen scenes morph into women being told by their husbands “You’ll have babies when I want you to” or something, followed by pharmacies showing “No birth control” signs. @Hill Dweller: I’ve seen people defend Pew by saying they use weighing. But even if they do, they got a non-white sample less than 200, which is a 6-7% margin of error, and then they basically double those numbers to do the weighing. Do the same for the age distribution and geography, and you end up with a margin of error that is significantly larger than the 3.2% they advertised. One thing that is really crap is the geographical distribution. Yes, they use random number dialers, but you know mostly which numbers are in which part of the country, so you can just stop dialing numbers on exchanges in the South once you hit the 27% or so that they make up.

BTW: my key for Obama to beat back the romney surge – brand romney a flip-flopper, inconsistent, and untrustworthy. Pres should find one or two topics and stick to them. Rinse repeat as nauseum.

The man has no moral core. He’s a hollow suit.

Obama should just out and out say it. “Governor, your campaign has said it has no regard for the facts. You stood at that lectern the other night and disavowed your own stated positions. Recently your supporters have praised your reversal of your positions, saying it’s ‘good politics.’ It’s impossible to tell whether you believe in anything but your desire to win this election. I guess you can succeed in venture capitalism without having a moral center, but principles are required of a president.”

  60. 60.
