From graphic artist and extremely generous person, Beth Salman:
dear balloon juicers,
it’s the time of the year again for good deeds and showing off your critters. in other words, time to make another balloon juice calendar for 2013.
please send me a photo of your pet(s) in as high a resolution as you have available to: [email protected].
my plan is to collect all the photos by the end of october and finish the calendar by the beginning of december.
if you have any questions, please feel free to email me at the calendar email or ask here.
thanks again to john cole for letting me volunteer again this year.
Anyone has trouble accessing that email, you can also send me your pics — click on my name in the right-hand column.
I found a stash of pictures-with-stories from last year that I want to use for Early Morning Open Threads (we all need an occasional break from the doom & gloom), so I may be contacting some of last year’s contributors to ask for permission…

I love the calendar and thanks for doing this.

How do you think Warren did in the debate?
Down here in NJ, it’s hard to tell how it went for Mass.
raven
Oh noze, I don’t have ANY pictures of my dogs!
Litlebritdifrnt
Little Google fun for you. Go to Google, choose images, search “completely wrong”.
Alison
Oh, I want to do this, but the only camera I have is my cell phone. It’s a 3.0 megapixel camera…will that make a good enough picture for the calendar? They seem to look fine to me, but I know nothing about the techie aspect of this kind of thing…

I have a photo I want to send of my Otis. It’s my absolute favorite of him.
I may just email you with his story and a pic or two, also, Anne Laurie. He’s a rescue and he’s the love of my life (my John being also the love of my life, but in a different way).
Alison
@Litlebritdifrnt: I guessed what was coming, and I still LOL’d :P
geg6
@Alison:
I have the same problem, but I’ve got Otis on my FB page and he looks great on there, so I think my phone’s camera is pretty good. But what do I know?
JPL
@raven: haha.. I forwarded the post to my son and said HELP…
Soonergrunt
We’re getting our dog groomed this weekend, so we’ll have some awesome pictures.
geg6
@Soonergrunt:
Heh. Otis is getting groomed Saturday, too.
Linda Featheringill
@Soonergrunt:
Howya feeling? Is your pneumonia getting better?
The Dangerman
Can we get a picture of Seamus on, say, January 20th?
ETA: Just finished the 8th; I think we also need a FTFY.
Yutsano
@Soonergrunt: @Linda Featheringill: I’ve come to the conclusion SG is too stubborn a cuss to let a mere bug take him down long.
Kristine
Yea! Thank you, Beth.
Just sent off my pics.
jurassicpork
Aw! Happy puppy.
I’d order a calendar but I literally don’t know where the missus and I will be living next month let alone next year. But if I ever achieve any financial stability, I’ll sure buy a BJ calendar.
Flying Squirrel Girl
This is why I love it here. That is all.

@Linda Featheringill:
@Yutsano: I went to work today. This turned out to not be a very bright idea. I’m waiting on a printout and the boss walks up and says hello and then gets a look at me. Her eyes get huge.
Being me, I say “I take it from your expression that I look like I feel.” to which she replies “I don’t know. Do you feel like HELL?”
I spent the day doing as many tickets as I could from my desk. I didn’t go out into the hospital, not the least because I felt like the aforementioned hell and and also because I had a coughing fit that wouldn’t stop. I ruptured a blood vessel in my nose and started spraying blood all over the place in my office. So I’m cleaning this up, and one of my coworkers comes in to ask me a question, sees the blood on the floor, the walls, and my face, and he just nearly freaks out.
Probably should have stayed home again today.
We have the first bid on repairing the water line–$2,000.
We have two more pending.
Yutsano
@Soonergrunt: This is me. This is me banging my head. NO. WORK. TOMORROW. Don’t make me come down there Grunt!
Jenn
@Soonergrunt: Please stay home and allow yourself time to GET BETTER! And from a coworker perspective, I too, would be freaking out if I saw my coworker with strep pneumonia hacking so hard he was spewing blood – not just because I’d be feeling bad for them, but because I really really really wouldn’t want to catch it, and have my own place in the “hacking and blood spewing” queue!
Felanius Kootea
@Maude: Used to live in MA but I’m now in CA – I still contribute to Warren’s campaign though. I didn’t get to watch the debate tonight but I just got this kick-ass video link from a post-debate fundraising email from her campaign. If the rest of the debate went anything like this, I’d say she owned Scott Brown!
MikeJ
Should I send in a picture of what I most often pet?
On second thought, no.
Felanius Kootea
@Litlebritdifrnt: Never seen so many pictures of Mitt in one place :).
Soonergrunt
@Jenn: Well, I WAS afebrile for over a day, and so likely not infectious, but I see you point.

The Ryan one on page 12 is wishful thinking aside from creepy.

Hey Juicers,
Just stopping in to say I went by and visited coffeeshopchic and Miss Kitty, the ladylike old black kitty who she adopted today. She is a gorgeous girl, angular like a Siamese. I think they’re all going to be very happy together.
Thanks for helping make that happen.
Much love,
TRex
Jenn
@TRex: Thanks for the update! So happy for the happy ending :-). Or is that a happy beginning!?
Soonergrunt
Not worth a blog post on its own, but the audio of today’s oral arguments in Center for Constitutional Rights, et al v. United States and Colonel Lind is available here
Libby's Person
I love the calendars! I’ll take a photo of my girl on Saturday at the “Good Dog, Bad Romney” walk in Durham NC. She’ll be wearing her “I Ride Inside” bandana.
Mnemosyne
@Soonergrunt:
Dude, you work at a HOSPITAL and they didn’t send you home?! WTF? When I was at UCLA Healthcare, they had a huge campaign urging people to stay home when sick so they didn’t infect everyone else.
At a minimum you should at least stay home until the spraying of blood ceases.
hep kitty
Pet Pr0n! I like it! The puppy in pic, except for the markings, looks a lot like Miss Lily.
beth
@Alison: alison, just email me the photo from your phone. it will be fine (and if it’s not entirely, i’ll run it through the photoshop machine.)

Ives Smith at “Naked Capitalism” has a great feature she calls “Antidote du Jour”. She finds (don’t know how) these amazing photos of animals that are inspiring/funny (hence the name of the section since economics is the dismal science). We might steal that idea.
