Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Cancel the cowardly Times and Post and set up an equivalent monthly donation to ProPublica.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Books are my comfort food!

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

The unpunished coup was a training exercise.

This must be what justice looks like, not vengeful, just peaceful exuberance.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

It is not hopeless, and we are not helpless.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Giving up is unforgivable.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

The way to stop violence is to stop manufacturing the hatred that fuels it.

Hey hey, RFK, how many kids did you kill today?

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

Apart from that, what’s on the agenda for the start of the weekend?

We have lived very rurally, and although what I wanted was to be off the beaten path, I misunderestimated the education gap and cultural gap that comes with living OTBP in a third world country. But I wake up to howler monkeys almost every morning, which has never ever lost its awesomeness.

@redshirt: Came here in 2007 after many wonderful vacations to the same area. Close friends were already living here and making it look easy and we thought, “If they can, why can’t we?” It looked like everyone was making killer money buying and developing/selling land and all the services that go along with newly created infrastructure. But we moved here just as things started REALLY tanking in the states, and from then it has seemed like a good place to weather the storm. As things got worse in the states everything dried up here: building, property management, etc. (we are at the end of the road at a somewhat famous surfbreak in CR — Playa Negra).

As for why Houston of all places (believe me I know), Mr. FSG and I are both from TX and that’s where the contacts, family, jobs and low cost of living are for us; in short, lots of support and opportunity.

I will miss this pace of life and am immensely grateful to have been able to have heard the ocean every day for 5 years. And the monkeys too.

Obama/Biden and the Democrats need to open a new front against Romney/Ryan, an issue that hasn’t been done to death in ads and press/media coverage.

They need to have something swirling in the mix before the next debate, something that Romney has to answer for or respond to. It would be a mistake to wait until the debate, itself, to spring it.

For some reason, everyone let Romney’s secret tax returns fade into oblivion. I am guessing that if you asked the ‘undecided’ voters, they would tell you that he already did.

I don’t know what it could be or should be because my views are such that what matters to me are things the ‘undecided’ voters care about.

    You guys got anything?

@James E. Powell: immigration….. Latinos want it, full fledged support of the Dream Act. Work out proper treatment of “guest workers” that allow proper treatment and benefits while still allowing a game plan for citizenship and for agriculture to come to grips with what is a fair wage. Because if immigrant workers start getting minimum wage, you can expect to see dramatic increases in prices in your grocery stores.

ETA: After reading a bit more – I think the election has caused me to drink more. There was a time not so long ago (namely, earlier this year) where my tolerance was absolute shit. Tuesday night, I went out for drinks with the team and did shots, drank beer, and woke up the next morning with zero hangover.
