Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

T R E 4 5 O N

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

I’m pretty sure there’s only one Jack Smith.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

“I never thought they’d lock HIM up,” sobbed a distraught member of the Lock Her Up Party.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Everybody saw this coming.

I like you, you’re my kind of trouble.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

It Gets Better

FacebookTweetEmail

Dinesh D’Souza just got fired from his $1 million/year job as president of some tiny evangelical college, and his girlfriend is married, too.

<blockquote class=”twitter-tweet tw-align-center”><p>”God has a mighty future for Dinesh, but there are some things he has to go through first,” Mills said.</p>&mdash; Empire State Tribune (@ESTribune) <a href=”https://twitter.com/ESTribune/status/258974721222266880″ data-datetime=”2012-10-18T16:55:59+00:00″>October 18, 2012</a></blockquote>
<script src=”//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js” charset=”utf-8″></script>

By “things”, I assume that Mills, the head of the Board of Trustees at the college, meant “adulterous vaginas”, but I couldn’t track down the rest of that quote.

Uh, how blind do you have to be to be D’Souza? Couldn’t you just hang with her somewhere else?

The expectation of being above the law and ordinary accountability is really, really high. Latin America high.

Not in the Vitter/Norquist category. Melanin enhanced.

Perhaps could not get present wife to stand beside him while apologizing. Vitter’s wife was the classic “I really do not want to be here.”

This looks like the appetizing beginning to the very tasty end of D’Souza’s career. Perhaps there is a future for him in Utah?

He’d have to convert, but, hey– no Conservative has ever been hampered with that “consistency” thing anyway, right?

New Evangelical Christians endorse a theology of salvation through acceptance of Christ as one’s personal Savior that cannot, practically, be undone by any sin as long as one can find a faith community to support one’s continued presence; they cut a lot of slack for marital and sexual “deviance” as long as the sinner beats his chest and weeps and puts himself back on the path of condemnation of others for the same behavior

The net result is often rural housewives seeking shelter from the church as the only local institution able to handle their needs, and then eventually getting pressured by Evangelical or fundamentalist clergy to go back to a still-abusive spouse

I agree with Margaret. We should not air our laundry in public, lest those who do not share our beliefs use it to attack our motivation. These kinds of incidents are better handled and resolved in privacy, out of sight and mind of the public.

I, as a conservative practicing Christian woman, am more than disappointed that the persons or persons making these claims have chosen to make this a public forum. We have been strictly instructed by Jesus Christ to go to our brothers and be reconciled, not to the public square. Devisiveness should be unheard of in the Christian community. I pray that the person who instigated this flawed reaction to a brother’s error will, at least, have the grace to repent and return to the true ways of our Lord. He, or they, should also step down from their positions until they have examined their own hearts and discovered the true reason for their accusations. This treatment of a Christian brother is no less a sin than what they have accused D’Souza of committing.

I wish that I could meet someone saying this to my face, so that I could laugh in theirs while wondering aloud whether they bothered to apply that benefit of the doubt to LGBTQ people, some of whom no doubt are parts of their “flock”. Their tears sustain my black heart.

Consarn it, there’s some things that just boil my barnacles.

That woman, who claims to be seriously and conservatively Christian, has a website called something like “things I lust after”. Does she not have the slightest knowledge of how Christians (in the conservative good times, when all the rules were being made by men) categorized your seven deadly and your seven not-quite-so-deadly sins, and that one of the ones on the deadly (ie. cuts you off from salvation type deadly) list was Lust?

Pierce chimes in. [Oops, Mark Warren, not Pierce]

I have challenged D’Souza to a fight on several different occasions over the years, and he has never answered me. I can’t explain it, really, other than to say that the impulse to hit him in the face has been quite strong in me ever since he profited from blaming 9/11 on its victims. But it seemed until today that my need to hurt this horrible little man was destined to go unsatisfied. Well, having God smack him down is so very much better. I will forever more regard this turn of events as God’s review of D’Souza’s body of work. Thank you, God, for answering my prayers.

@catclub: Modern day evangelical Christianity is all about lust, mostly a lust for money and other material things but any lust will do. These people have taken the trappings of traditional Christianity and totally perverted their meaning. It is not a coincidence that their “churches” look like a cross between a Wal-Mart, a multiplex cinema, and a shopping mall food court. Their lips may say “Jesus” but their hearts, souls and bodies are completely in thrall to desire for worldly things.

What’s really the tell is what the College says are reasons to fire the guy:

According to several sources at the college, members of the King’s faculty and board alike had grown hostile to D’Souza’s presidency over what they saw as a failure to earn his reported million-dollar salary. D’Souza has spent much of the past few months promoting his documentary, 2016: Obama’s America, and his high profile in the media was seen as rarely benefitting the college. It may even have been seen as a detriment: According to a former staffer familiar with the college’s public relations, King’s employees have been explicitly tasked with disentangling D’Souza’s extracurricular activities from the college’s reputation.

So basically, he hasn’t done a damned thing for the college, he’s spent the last year doing self-promotion of a piece of propaganda, and probably selling his own books.

A million dollars salary. Keep in mind that King’s College is a four year school with only 400 students. The Chancellor at UCLA, by contrast was offered $418,000 when he was hired.

And then the manifesto titled: It’s A Secret, But I’ll Tell You (About Me)

“:My name is Denise Odie Joseph II and I am a twenty-something currently residing in Washington, DC. Languishing, longing, and lusting are all capital “L” words for me as long as the attendant luxury comes with a heavy dose of God, Flag, and Country. For you math people out there, this means that the 2nd Amendment is more precious to me than 5th Avenue. Though a lawyer by training, I am now a maven of the museum at twp particularly charming DC Art Galleries. This blog was born out of a desire to share with like-minded folk, my obsession with objets d’arte and their trappings—wherever and whenever they strike me.

From time to time, this conservative bloggette will also be addressing socio-political issues under the category of women’s issues. Because it is this blogette’s sincere belief that women should be the moral guardians of their homes, these posts will span the socio-political-economic gamut.

The blog is intended to be a fashion, lifestyle, and socio-political humor blog. I want a space to discuss socio-political issues in a casual and fun environment. Whenever possible, I attempt to employ satire and humor as well. I include the fashion and lifestyle aspects because they appeal to me personally but more importantly, because I am strong believer in the concept of Republican Motherhood. I think it is one of America’s greatest inventions and the most vital of its lost philosophies. I try to abide by it whenever possible and therefore know women’s relationships with socio-politics, economics, lifestyle and fashion to be inextricably and naturally linked. Basically, I will be covering issues from consumer complaints to the elections, from the organic food movement to teenager’s clothing trends, from religion to Ralph Lauren. And frankly, I’ll be covering all three at once because our lives do.

This liberty-loving blogette urges all readers to engage the in healthy discussion of such issues and to avoid counter-productive commentary. Posts featuring unnecessary expletives will be removed. I look forward to hearing from all of you!

Happy Hunting My Lovelies, until the next post.”

    Doesn’t sound like a lot of you read this from the original source;

Editor’s Note: This story originally reported that D’Souza’s salary was rumored to be $1 million. According to the most recent IRS filings by The King’s College, D’Souza received $194,638 in reportable compensation between August 16, 2010 and Aug. 31, 2011, and an estimated additional compensation of $6,886. The reference to the rumored salary has been removed.

I was blown away by the original reported salary of $1 million. I wondered how that could be possible. I would guess that DeSleaza pulled a Trump here and leaked or flat out claimed a ridiculously inflated salary to impress his fellow wingnuts…….because its all about the money.
