Sheesh, Cole, the Steelers are 2 and 3. They’re not the Browns or the Jags or some hopeless team.

What I want to know is how Florida drops a spot after handling a ranked conference opponent, but Oregon moves up while trouncing unranked Arizona State!?
It’s not that I really care, but I will admit I root for the Florida team when FSU isn’t playing them. Its a travesty I tells ya!
Sorry about your Mountaineers, John. I blame Manchin for this.

Oh, the Bengals aren’t that bad this year; I was confusing them with the Browns.

I’m sorry, but I find it impossible to feel sorry for a Steelers fan. You guys have had plenty of good years, you get a bad one now. Boo hoo.
Like Peak said, imagine being a Browns or a Jags fan. Or a Raiders fan, or a Chiefs fan (no playoff wins since 1994, as my Chiefs-fan friend reminds me), or a Bills fan, or…

General Stuck
Wow. Giants are off to a 4 to 0 lead against Cardinals. Looks like the Giants are doing to the Cards what they did to Cincy. Which is fine by me.

@Spaghetti Lee: But you are used to losing, so it’s not a let down. Unlike a Steeler fan.
The one consolation from today’s games is that either yinz or the Bungles will fail to gain ground on my Ravens, who totally shat the bed this afternoon. The good news is that I’m completely confident they won’t repeat that lame impersonation of a professional football team next week…but only because it’s their bye.
as a long suffering Redskins fan, I chortle to myself with the sense of entitlement that certain franchises appear to generate. I don’t wish these franchises harm per se, but the gnashing and histrionics can be a bit much.

Yeah, I’ve officially lost interest in football this season until playoff time, now that the Mountaineers are firmly back in their destined spot of red-headed stepchild of the national scene. :/
I hold out hope for a breakthrough one day….one day….but I have a feeling I’ll be waiting forever.

#1 team in the country played #6 Friday and Saturday. Two very tight games despite the scores; 7-1 & 8-0. A very good weekend.
Oh, the local NFL squad managed to just barely not embarrass themselves but just barely.

@General Stuck: Speak not too soon. As Earl Weaver put it, the great thing about beisbol is that no team can run up a lead & then run out the clock–you get 27 outs no matter what, & no deficit is insurmountable, even with 2 outs in the 9th & 2 strikes on the batter. (Ask the 2011 Red Sox about that last bit.)

At the very least, the ’12 Steelers have one big thing going in their favor. They possess a monster QB, arguably still in his prime. I have been disengaged from the NFL to the point that I really don’t have a feel of what’s-what (i.e., I won’t bet money), but this I know: the Steelers need to re-build.
Now, would you like to help me with the NPR Sunday Puzzler?

@Schlemizel: I was at those games and they weren’t close. 7-2 pretty accurately described the Friday night game. OSU scored one goal with a 5-3 power play and the other on a brain fart of a play by Gillanders not watching the slot.
The Saturday game started much closer. I don’t think OSU deserved to be down 3-0 after the first period. Their problem is that they just weren’t strong enough to control the front of their own net. However, they melted down in the second, allowing two really bad goals. And the third was a beatdown.
The Gophers have now outscored their opponents 55-3 over eight games. They have five shorthanded goals. Brandt and Kessel each have more goals scored than three WCHA teams. Terry has goals in three straight games and if she has her shooting touch back things could get *really* scary for anyone visiting Ridder.
The Motor City Kitties do have a certain “Blue Steel” glint in their eyes. Glad they derailed the Yankees, although I was a little conflicted because it would be nice for Ichiro to get a World Series ring.
Nope, the Tigers will be losing their edge while the NL victors (Giants, fingers crossed.) will still be in the groove.

@Steeplejack: As an O’s fan I am with you on the Skanks. Too frickin’ bad it was Ibanez breaking his ankle a couple of weeks earlier, it might’ve been us getting swept duking it out with the Motor City. Ah well, we softened ’em up for ya…& it would kinda complete Detroit’s comeback (courtesy of PBO) to win the Whirled Serious, no?

Not a fan of Rapelisberger based on his off-field exploits, but that was a slick little punt. I’d say every NFL QB needs to put that in their repertoire. It seems like something that a decent athlete could learn easily enough.
