Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Fight for a just cause, love your fellow man, live a good life.

Let the trolls come, and then ignore them. that’s the worst thing you can do to a troll.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

Find someone who loves you the way trump and maga love traitors.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

I’m more christian than these people and i’m an atheist.

At some point, the ability to learn is a factor of character, not IQ.

Human rights are not a matter of opinion!

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

You cannot love your country only when you win.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

This really is a full service blog.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

This blog will pay for itself.

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

I really want Oklahoma to kick the Irish back to South Bend. They are not a #5 team, nor was Florida a #2 team in Georgia.

Fla-Ga might go down as the ugliest football game of the year. Between the two teams, NINE turnovers and somewhere in the neighborhood of two dozen penalties.

It could have been worse only if it had been raining Vaseline.

As I mentioned in an O/T post a few threads down, USC just coughed up a second-rate bowl game sized hairball in their loss to Arizona. The end of the Lane Kiffin era can’t come fast enough. If you’re going to be childish dickhead, the least you can do is end the year with a record that gets you into a BCS bowl game. Their loss to Oregon next week will help to further his demise, but not quickly enough to keep from hurting recruiting for three or four years. Oh well, there’s always UCLA…did I really just say that? Must be the +4 talkin’………….

Completely OT but I cooked an absolutely awesome Rotisserie Chicken dinner tonight, basically using just one appliance. I picked it up for $9.00 at the Goodwill a couple of weeks ago and it is absolutely kick ass. It looks like an over sized toaster oven but has a rotisserie feature (which easily took a 7.5lb chicken) as well as roasted potatoes in the bottom with the drippings and steamed cabbage and green beans in the top. (it has a lift up lid on the top which allows you to cook anything in there using the residual heat from the oven itself,) I wish I could tell you the brand and model but it has no markings on it. All I can say is that it is probably the best bargain I have ever bought at a Thrift Store. It came with ALL of the accessories, including kebab skewers, trays and racks, a basket for cooking burgers and fish and a whole bunch of other things that I haven’t even figured out what they are for yet. I am guessing that this is a seriously expensive piece of kit. I love Thrift Stores!

Smartphone users no longer need to think up an appropriate phrase when searching the web on the go – at least, not if they are using Google’s Android operating system.

“You take a picture of an item and use that picture as the query,” explains Vic Gundotra, one of Google’s vice presidents for engineering.

The service, called Goggles, attempts to identify the object – for example, it might recognise a landmark like the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco – and returns a page of conventional search results, as if a user had typed the name of the landmark. Goggles can also identify artworks and extract the text from a photo, for example of a business card. It might find places to buy a product you’ve seen or identify local attractions.

The fact the Rodriguez can manage this in his first year is impressive as the DL and secondary are constructs of chicken wire and pipe cleaners, plus a QB who has been waiting in the wings and a true talent at RB.

Tough sched AZ has played too, stanford, Ore St. Ore and Okla St. very pleased to see them with a winning record. (also too Toledo, who has been impressive after losing the first game)

@JCT: Get up to Pink Granite Canyon when time allows. My buddy is about as unsports as one can get but he loves to go down to the Sea of Cortez and fish. We drive down to Hermosillo and then through the desert to the water. You have to be be totally self-contained but it’s awesome. Course it’s a bit more dangerous than it used to be. Whatcha teach?

@JCT: well if you ended up on the east side, try Tino’s… yes they are pricey but imho, they are worth it, a great blend of crust sauce and toppings. My wife has stated that she could subsist on the crust alone. Another place that does the NY style well is mama’s Pizza, they have a couple of locales, one might be near you.

also too, there’s a fairly active GOS chapter in Tucson (Baja Arizona Kossacks) that assemble infrequently down at The Shanty

@Raven: some of the best ones (green corn tamales) I’ve ever had came from a middle aged lady selling them out of a grocery cart in front of a safeway… homemade is something my wife just hasn’t mastered yet (although I commend her for trying)

@Raven: We both scuba dive, so we have been thinking about a trip down to the Sea of Cortez. People still go. We drove up to Mt Lemmon last weekend and it was gorgeous. I can see the Catalinas and Ricons from my backyard.

And I’m laughing — I had a grand old time surveying all of the green corn tamales around here, one of my absolute favorites.

I mostly teach cardiac physiology with some biophysics thrown in. Lots of clinical teaching as well. Husband is a chemist.

And the Cats have done a good job of coughing up leads at the end, too. But not today!

@JCT: Wow! Great work you both do! There are a good many divers where we go. They call the little bay Himalya because there is a little peak there that seems to draw a fog bank. My friend stopped going for a while but made a couple of trips last year.

Here we are with some groupers!

btw, have you ever read Log from the Sea of Cortez by Steinbeck?

@Raven: Now that’s a good haul — I bet they were tasty! I grew up in SoCal and my father was a serious fisherman sort. He used to love the Sea of Cortez. We spent our childhood vacationing in Mexico, it’s just terrible what has happened there.

And no, I missed that one, I will have to read it!

I love my Trojans more than my husband on Saturdays… and I love the fact that they haven’t given into the trend of mix and match uniform randomness. But I have to wonder, if we changed the color of the pants so they didn’t match the officials’ flags, could we perhaps not be so penalized.

Oh, and Marqise Lee breaks another record even in the stupid loss.

@JCT: I grew up in SoCal as well but my old man, the WWII destroyer sailor, hated fish so I didn’t get going until I was in my 20’s. Of course that is still over 40 years now!

@Raven: I’m not too far behind you age-wise, but I am grinning — I think lots of ex-Navy guys settled in SoCal after the war. My old man grew up on a ranch outside of Phoenix and after he “saw the world” (mostly on the USS Henrico) in the Korean War he never left SoCal.

And he would be pleased with the Wildcat win today — he was a UCLA guy — thanks to the GI Bill.

@red dog: From Fox Sports News: Notre Dame is off to its best start in a decade, doing so as the only team in the country with four wins against Top 25 teams – including two on the road against top 10 foes.

Go ahead and hate the Irish, but they’re not playing Miami of Ohio and Middle Tennessee State.
