    Pretty much a stinky day but UCLA is taking to that scumbag Kiffin so that’s good. The SEC is in a lousy “prep for the rivalry game” except for LSU-Ole Miss and the Rebel Bears are ahead. Go Dawgs!

    Except for a few games, this season’s games have sucked. To many teams have scheduled weaker opponents under the premise that they are helping the opponents by sharing the wealth. Now that college football is dependent on TV revenue, it’s to hell with the fans who pay for a good game. Just my opinion.

    @JPL: I was listening to an interview with Huston Nutt last week and he is of the mind that, with the 12 game schedule, a team can only play so many “big games”. With the meatgrinder that is the SEC playing highly ranked out of conference teams makes no sense. I think the UGA-Oklahoma State and Boise State games bear that out. The UGA schedule this year totally sucked. Buffalo, FAU, Georgia Southern and a weak conference slate. I stayed home for three of those dogs, today included”. I’m not crazy about it but I understand it.

    @schrodinger’s cat:

    From things I was reading when I ran out of powdered sugar and thought I was going to have to make some, blenders work better for that kind of grinding down than food processors. (Apparently you can take granulated sugar and a little cornstarch, throw them in the blender, and make your very own powdered sugar.) So the blender may be better for making your masa harina into cornmeal.

    Well if it’s excitement you want just watch my alma mater Clemson as they constantly turn blowouts into almost nail biters due to our exciting defense.
    Todays game Clemson 62 NC State 48, with combined total yardage of over 1300 yds. Taj had 8 touchdowns ,5 passing, 3 running. Did i mention that both teams defense was something less that stellar. Needless to say with that much offense both teams are suffering from exhaustion.

    @grandpa john: Grandpa John, I came to N.C. State from Clemson this time last year. I had just gotten definitive word that I had this job the week of that game, and as I watched the Wolfpack embarrass the Tigers in an upset, I took it as a personal omen that I’d made the right decision. This year? I’m just trying to adjust to working for a basketball school. I’m surprised the Pack kept it as close as they did. And the first half was a pretty exciting roller coaster of a game, no?

    (As apparently the only Notre Dame fan about, I’ll keep my head down on that, except to note that Notre Dame is the team of choice for natives of that densely-populated slice of northwestern Indiana that is culturally akin to Chicago and usually looks to Democrats for leadership. Big victories in Lake, Porter, LaPorte, and St. Joseph counties were what propelled Obama to a win in Indiana in 2008. All went for him in 2012 as well, though only in Lake did he get the kind of margin required to offset the votes of those stupid southern Hoosiers whose lack of taste gave us Papa John’s.)

    http://thequad.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/09/19/the-geography-of-college-football-fans-and-realignment-chaos/

    Unbeknownst to most, Rutgers has also been approached by other conferences, but we chose to wait out the Big 10. We were set to join two years ago until Nebraska ditched the Big 12. We fit their profile perfectly. A large, land grant research university, AAU member. We recently reacquired UMDNJ medical school in anticipation of joining the Big 10. Our academics are immediately in the top half of the league, and in football, which drives the bus, we have a better program than Illinois, Indiana, Northwestern, Minnesota and Purdue (not to mention Maryland and soon to be Penn State) right out of the gate. Only Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ohio State are on a different level competitively, but as a Big 10 member, Rutgers will further lock up NJ talent and continue to bring in top talent from Florida and the Northeast. We will compete for the Big 10 title sooner rather than later.

    @cminus: You’re not alone, but it feels like it. ND Law ’78, and the loathing of the “Papists” on this blog is remarkable. You would think that a school that threatens to be the first to win the NCAA title while being #1 in athletic graduation rate at 97% would get some love around here, but not to be. Curious. Lots of talk of Papist “arrogance,” but I see utterly no indication of any factual basis for that. All I see is some pretty humble comments by players and coaches about how they need to focus on beating USC, etc. Go figure.

    @Kilkee: My hate is not with this team itself, they are a very good team.(and I don’t mind if Manti Te’o, wins the Heisman) My hate is with the media that shoves them down the throats of every football fan in the country. Sorry I don’t drink the House of Rockne Kool Aid, and all that America’s College Team BS, that is sold by the likes of ESPN and NBC. (Speaking of America’s Team, I am hoping the Browns beat the Cowboys!!!)

    @Mr Stagger Lee: Agreed. I always hated the “America’s Team” crap about the Cowboys. I understand that NBC has a product they’ve paid for and want to sell; maybe I don’t appreciate how it looks to others.
