Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

You come for women, you’re gonna get your ass kicked.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

So many bastards, so little time.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

If you can’t control your emotions, someone else will.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

Of course you can have champagne before noon. That’s why orange juice was invented.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

“But what about the lurkers?”

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

    There’s a very strange match going on right now in the English Premier League. Reading led twice against table toppers Manchester United and are currently down 3 – 4 early in the second half. Not so much brilliant forward play as shit defending from both teams, especially the supposedly far superior United.

    @JPL:
    They probably haven’t made the decision yet. There are contracts and tickets and all that to consider. The players might still want to play. It might be better to get some fan support for the team for a game.
    This was a murder suicide and that’s a really awful thing for the team. The coaches must be devastated.

    Empty gesture.

    I’m not sure cancelling a multi million dollar event which 80,000 people and more have planned their weekend around, is a necessary thing.

    Why not just have a moment of silence?

    @Maude: The Head Coach and the General Manager, Romeo Crennel and Scott Pioli were both there when he pulled the suicide trigger. It happened right as the police showed up.

    God stuff like this is just so crushing.

    @Maude:
    I’d have thought that a traumatic event like this would be an automatic cancellation. If I were a Chiefs player, I wouldn’t be in the right frame of mind for a game. And if I were a fan, I’d be in no mood for it either.

    Well, I’m not getting my hair cut any time soon. My barber is a huge Chiefs fan and was already upset enough by their season.

    It’s always tragic. I’ve dealt with 3 suicides this year – 2 being coworkers. Didn’t see either of those coming. It knocks you out of body for about a week.

  17. 17.

    Amir Khalid

    December 1, 2012 at 2:21 pm

    @Maude:
    A year or so ago, a football match in the German Bundesliga (the top division) was called off after the match referee had attempted suicide in his hotel room. A sporting event, even if it involves the weekend plans of tens of thousands of fans, is surely not more important than the great tragedy that has happened here. Cancelling the match won’t bring back Belcher or the mother of his child, but it feels wrong to me to carry on as though the football were the most important thing here.
    ETA: I think Martin #16 explains why cancelling the match is the right thing to do.

    Should the fans decide whether or not the team play? I don’t think so. The coaches witnessed something, they can’t get over and shouldn’t need to prepare a team to play. The NFL needs to step it up and make the decision for folks who not thinking straight. The Panthers are on the way but they can also just fly back to Carolina.

    also, too nbc sports is saying the Kansas City mayor wants them to play. Maybe he should suit up.

  20. 20.
