Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

You cannot shame the shameless.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Dear legacy media: you are not here to influence outcomes and policies you find desirable.

    Very amused by conservative Facebook friends constant ranting about saying merry Christmas instead of happy holidays.

    @mattH:
    Lyle is teh awesome, but to be fair, he does sing this:

    And as she stood there at the altar All dressed in her gown of white Lord, her face was bright as stars a-shining Like I’d dreamed of all my life
    __
    And they kissed each other And they turned around And they saw me standing in the aisle Well, I did not say much I just stood there watching As that .45 told them goodbye

    I just read a college application from a kid from Gangnam, South Korea. I did a little dance. Good student.

    What sort of dance? WAIT. I think I got it…

    Macarena?

    @Spaghetti Lee: Actually, it might have looked more like the macarena. People in comas are better dancers than I.

    @trollhattan:

    I used to work at a radio station that played some of the worst music ever recorded. There was one C&W song by Lefty Frizzell about a guy shooting his ex girl friend at her wedding. I have blanked out the lyrics but that might be it.

    I hated that song so much I scratched the track so it couldn’t be played again.

    @Raven:

    Fewer & fewer people even know who he was. I have a couple of his albums & still find them a great background sound when I just want instrumental.

    If I had a boat
    I’d go out on the ocean
    And if I had a pony
    I’d ride him on my boat
    And we would altogether
    Go out on the ocean
    Just me upon my pony on my boat.

    I sing this LL song to my granddaughter. Who doesn’t love boats AND PONIES!

    And I’ve used thatt song as a lullaby for all my kids as well. Eldest is now 22 and the youngest are soon to be 7 year old twins.

    @Wag: My husband recorded the tracks and vocals on that album so he’d bring home work cassettes.
    I still have them.

    And, btw, the record went gold and LL sent everyone who worked on it a gold record at his own expense. Hangs proudly in my hall.

    I love old country, folk and bluegrass music, but as Steve Martin pointed out so long ago, this is some of the most violent music ever and always with a jaunty lilt–happy songs about going out walking with your girl by the river and killing her “on the banks of the Ohio.”

    One song my husband plays is JD Crowe’s “old Home Place” great tune, upbeat tempo, and my favorite line is

    Well, the girl ran off with somebody else
    the taverns took all my pay.
    And here I stand where the old home stood
    before they took it away.

    Now the geese fly south and the cold wind moans
    as I stand here and hang my head.
    I’ve lost my love, I’ve lost my home
    and now I wish that I was dead.

    I saw Lyle Lovett last year when he was on tour with his large band. It was one of the best concerts I’ve ever attended. I took my 60-something mom, a retired English teacher, and her best friend, who was my high school English teacher. (Is there better company for a concert than two aging grammarians?) My former teacher got very excited when Lyle played “If I Had a Boat,” as it is one of her favorite songs of all time. I love “Nobody Knows Me,” which he also played. What a great evening!

    Fact: Lyle Lovett produced more quality music than anything excreted by the pop culture pantheon over the last two decades.

    @Thomas F: I adore Lyle Lovett, but I guarantee that forty years from now, somebody will be grousing that “Tae Yang produced more quality music than anything excreted by the pop culture pantheon over the last two decades”!
