Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Do we throw up our hands or do we roll up our sleeves? (hint, door #2)

When tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty. ~Thomas Jefferson

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

Let me file that under fuck it.

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

Hell hath no fury like a farmer bankrupted.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

Giving in to doom is how authoritarians win.

Republicans in disarray!

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. keep building.

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

Fight them, without becoming them!

    Lilly pup, Lilly pup
    Oh Lilly, Lilly pup…

    Call my baby, Lilly pup
    Tell you why
Her kiss is sweeter than an apple pie
And when she does her shaky rockin’ dance (after a bath)
    Man, I haven’t got a chance

    I call her
    Lilly pup, Lilly pup,
    Oh, Lilly, Lilly pup

Probably belongs in the earlier gun thread but I doubt it will get seen there. Seems leaders of the NRA must be a bad parents and also allow theeir kids to play violent video games. How else can you explain this:

*Not sure I would have liked much of the punk when it first came out anyway, given my tastes back then and especially given the breadth of that category; certainly would have loved The Stranglers (more ballad-oriented and melodic, I think, which suits me), but maybe not so much Brygada Kryzys back then.

I’ve loved a lot of dogs in my lifetime, but last May I lost one that was special–he owned my heart. I don’t comment often but every time John posts about Lily I feel that feeling he describes, now only as a memory. I envy him it and and am grateful that he shares it.

OTOH, I also relish the Rosie stories because my boy was an AmStaff and I can appreciate a rapscallion.

Unfortunately, I got bad news tonight — my dad has been admitted to the hospital and it’s not looking good. My mom says one of the doctors told her he’s got one of the worst cases of emphysema he’s ever seen. Add in that his two existing tumors didn’t respond to the radiation treatment and appear to have have grown … yeah, it’s not looking good right now.

Flying out tomorrow afternoon and, at best, Christmas Day will be spent at the hospital.

@efgoldman: Steve Carlton isn’t a good comparison, though, because you have to be really good to win a bunch of games as a pitcher for a bad team. Johnson’s year involves racking up stats in games where the Lions just throw and throw and throw and throw. It’d be like a player on a 100-loss baseball team setting a record for stolen bases or something. The teams they play aren’t knocking themselves out to stop it because wins and losses aren’t hanging in the balance.

I lost both my parents, two years apart, just after the holidays. It’s tough at any time of year, but, for some reason, even tougher when everyone else is celebrating.

That said, whoever said above that Wings was the worst band ever? Get real. Rush wins that title, hands down. Worst shit ever recorded, with not even one song that redeems the audio horror.

    December 23, 2012 at 11:10 am

First off, regarding the judgements against Wings, “Maybe I’m Amazed” was a McCartney solo venture recorded on a tape machine at the farmhouse in Scotland, maybe we’re amazed to learn, with some backing vocals from Linda and was a track on his first solo album, “McCartney”.

    Wings came later.

Though the song was a staple of Wings concerts, but it is now too and ever will be with whomever backing Paul.

Secondly, am I reading a clever meaning into John Cole’s juxtaposition of “Best Dog Ever” and a picture of Linda McCartney, along the lines of the old Joan Rivers jokes about various ugly (through Rivers’ eyes and look who is talking, which is part of the joke) female celebrity wives, including Linda and Yoko Ono, not that I agree …

    … but just wondering.

Probably not, since he labeled “Maybe I’m Amazed” a Wings song, being relatively young, not that it matters.

When I was a kid, I thought “Maybe I’m Amazed” was a Beatles tune–it just sounded so much like one to me, like something from Abbey Road or Let It Be.

My local classic-rock station always plays the version from Wings Over America, which I don’t like as much (slower, more spare in a bad way) except that it has a real ending; the original sounds half-done the way it fades out–kind of a let-down.
