They should have stopped at “Nobody ever died for dear old Rutgers”. Bowl Games? Inconceivable.
cathyx
It doesn’t take skill to get to a bowl.
Schlemizel
You could always watch one of the worst bowl eligible teams in the country get their ass kicked in the Minkie car care who gives a shit bowl

Thank God college lax starts in six weeks. I’ve had quit enough football for one year, thank you very much.
BGinCHI
Bowl games are all about money.
Football is incidental and rarely breaks out during the commercials.

The Cardinals/Jets offensive juggernaut expo of 2012 demands a review of the tape.
Ed Hochuli wept.
Alison
I don’t pay much attention to college football, but overhearing my parents’ running commentary on this game from the other room has been rather amusing.
Litlebritdifrnt
@BGinCHI: Ha reminds me of the phrase “the football game will be played during the intervals of the High School Band Performance this evening” What can I say, I am the wife of a High School Band Director,

There’s a good basketball game on (Baylor-Gonzaga).

The Senate passed a Sandy $60.4 billion aid package.
They also passed Secret Service protection for fmr presidents for life. It had been limited to a few years. It’s a good idea in these times.
Edit, spell fairy fail
MattR
@burnspbesq: After the last two minutes yesterday, I’m not surprised.
So glad that overtime did not screw up the under for me. The number was 42 and I had bad visions of that somehow ending up a 26-20 game or something in 3 OTs
Mnemosyne
For once, I have the game on (or rather, my dad does). But we only caught the OT part. The announcers have been fairly scathing.

@efgoldman:
The conventional wisdom is that nothing will make the GOP budge because they are gerrymandered in safe districts.
However, the teahadists have had the benefit of not having to suffer personally so far. The economy and stock market have steadily improved under Obama, inflation is low, and despite what they believe, no one’s taxes has gone up.
The unknown here is whether the enough wingnuts have the will to fight when real money (that is, their money) is on the line – both with the fiscal cliff and with the debt ceiling.
Mnemosyne
Also, I can’t keep track of these minor bowl games anymore. The Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas? How many Meineke Car Care Bowls are there?
burnspbesq
@MattR:
Owwwwwwwwwww. You had to remind me, didn’t you?
Maude
@efgoldman:
That’s the $64,000 question.
MattR
@Mnemosyne: How about the San Diego County Federal Credit Union Poinettia Bowl? The Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl would work a whole lot better if it was played in Buffalo and not Arizona. Complete list of bowls here if you are interested.
I loved that news broke of the NCAA threatening to keep championship events out of NJ if they win their court battle to have legal sports gambling on the day of the MAACO Las Vegas Bowl.

@efgoldman:
I thought the House Republicans said the Sandy appropriation wouldn’t get to the floor until Obama coughed up an equivalent amount o f cuts in non-defense discretionary spending.
Fuckers.
Raven
GO HOKIES! Fuck all you douche bags with “the worst bowl game ever”. It wasn’t even the worst game today.
Calouste
So the guns that were used in the Rochester shooting of the firefighters were bought by the then-neighbor of the convicted felon shooter, in the company of said shooter. Neighbor has been arrested and claims that shooter stole the guns, police has a somewhat different opinion.
Just yet another “responsible” gun owner.
Maude
@Calouste:
I linked to that in an earlier thread. I was proud. It was my first link.
This is going to be interesting.
burnspbesq
Man, I loves me some Kevin Pangos. In a couple of years, he’s going to supplant Steve Nash as the best Canadian player ever.
Maude
@burnspbesq:
Yup. Today the Repubs came up with a plan to cut entitlements.
It’s hard to track all of this.
Rosie Outlook
John, I missed the naked mopping story that the old-timers keep talking about. Could you please re-print it?
MattR
@Rosie Outlook: Ask and ye shall receive
Not to be confused with the Lily icy fall incident.
Omnes Omnibus
@MattR: This is why the Army surrounded him with tons of heavy armor.
Rosie Outlook
@MattR: He should tell Rosie to move over immediately. The safest place for John is under the bed.
Heliopause
The Aldebarans monitoring our television broadcasts are undoubtedly convinced that human society is divided into three classes; sex criminals, police, and infallible forensic shamans.
MattR
@Heliopause: You forgot the human gladiators.
@Omnes Omnibus: @Rosie Outlook: I think a padded room is what he needs. I am a little worried if he ever gets that leap motion thing he was lusting after earlier today. (Can’t link or will go into moderation)
dr. bloor
@Omnes Omnibus: Also why they were so adamant about him keeping his sidearms unloaded.
Omnes Omnibus
@dr. bloor: Not unloaded; tape over the top of the mag. But I take your point; this is not a man designed for jumping out of airplanes.
mainmati
Yeah, the Steelers showed no chemistry this season. It would be easy to point to the Ruthelesshamburger’s failures but I think it was much more due to a lot of injuries and an ability to get the team mojo together the way that the unlikely Redskins and, of course, the Falcons have managed to do. But as a Pittsburgher, hope springs eternal.
dr. bloor
@Omnes Omnibus: Cole and a pistol inside a tank. What could possibly go wrong?
Omnes Omnibus
@dr. bloor: I suspect he had some responsibility for this.
honus
@mainmati: My 21 year old son, who drew pictures of Jerome Bettis when he was in kindergarten, said that Logan Thomas in the pocket today reminded him of Ben Roethislberger.
And no grammar jokes. VPI and the last two minutes of that Duke-Cincinnati game are enough amusement.
honus
@Omnes Omnibus: He was there. Seriously.
Omnes Omnibus
@honus: I know. That and the accidents that follow him are what convince me that he somehow fucked up the M992 heater that caused the whole thing.
knead
Under 42. Cha-ching.
khead
I guess I’m in moderation hell for using the wrong name and an iPad.
But under 42 = free money. We are full of the suck on offense.
LosGatosCA
On SportsCenter they said the Rutgers kicker was the game MVP, because when he missed the OT FG attempt, the game ended mercifully for the viewers.
