Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I wonder if trump will be tried as an adult.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

Not all heroes wear capes.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

This really is a full service blog.

Battle won, war still ongoing.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

When do the post office & the dmv weigh in on the wuhan virus?

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Recommended Reading (Bloggerific Edition)

Batocchio at Vagabond Scholar has posted his Jon Swift Memorial Roundup 2012 — “The Best Posts of the Year, Chosen by the Bloggers Themselves”. I count fifty-seven different submissions, and those I’ve seen have been excellent, so anyone whining that there’s never enough fresh posts here at BJ looking for new reads should hie themselves over and start clicking.

No, there does not seem to be a Balloon Juice entry — although Tom Levenson did send in a link for his Inverse Square blog. So did a bunch of BJ commentors who have their own blogs, including WereBear, Mustang Bobby, Southern Beale, and J. of J-Two-O. Either Mr. Cole was too modest to self-promote, or he figured one of his underbloggers would get around to it — you decide.

But seriously: Good stuff! Go Look!

(And incidentally, don’t we all wish Jon Swift/Al Weisel had been around to give us the Definitive Willard Mitt Romney Concession Speech?

    My post is in there, too, (Sketchy Details on the Feminist Frequence/Tropes vs. Women in Video Games backlash) though I’d hardly expect anyone to recognize me as a regular around here. I normally hop in too late to really get into the discussion.

    @Robert:
    On some threads, the discussion goes on for a long time.
    It’s never too late.

    No. The second it became absolutely clear Romney had lost, his words ceased to have any value positive or negative. He is a nonentity and soon we will even forget his campaign.

    Thanks for the link. Any update on the status of OnlyMike?

    @Denali:

    He was on one of the threads last night sounding upbeat, almost giggly, which could be a good or a bad sign.

    Thanks for the shout-out, Anne. The other thing Al/Jon did was promote smaller blogs and, along with Skippy the Bush Kangaroo, promote Blogroll Amnesty Day.

    Go check out the list and you’ll find some really good writing from friends you haven’t made yet.

    @Denali: He sounded somewhat hopeful yesterday. He has an appointment with the VA on Monday, and hopes they can help him before he becomes homeless. Also he and the cats had some food and he bought fresh kitty litter. He thinks he may be able to keep his cats if things work out. So yea, he seemed hopeful and relived and maybe a bit giddy. He sees light and feels it, maybe that will be enough to keep the darkness at bay for a bit longer.

    I saw this yesterday. I had only read two pieces. I was surprised that no bj posts made it.

    @Frankensteinbeck: no way is that incompetent campaign going to be forgotten if for nothing else it will become the gold standard to compare campaign incompetence to.

    Thanks Anne, It was fun to read the posts from B.J. regulars. Southern Beale’s smack down of Sally Quinn was great.

    @Frankensteinbeck:

    The right-wingers will not let the Romney campaign fade away. Romney’s flaws and incompetence are necessary to the claim that conservatism did not lose in 2012. I mean, they won the House, right?

    Congratulations to the BJ regulars (Tom Levenson, Southern Beale, Mustang Bobby, Werebear) to be so recognized for their efforts on behalf of the “reality-based community.”

    The list was also a helpful reminder to me to visit driftglass and The Hunting of the Snark more often. And how great to see that intertubes veteran The Rude Pundit is still slinging it.

    But it is the estimable TBogg who refreshes memory of the great debt we all owe to “George Tierney of Greenville South Carolina” for his contributions to National Mockery this year.

    Thanks for the link! Some fun reading this morning while I’m avoiding paying bills and getting out in the freezing weather to do some required yardwork.

    Yay linkage. I had 50 more people check out my rant on Romney’s ever-fixed mark. Now for my follow-up on what Romney’s Presidential Character could have been (hint: not a good one)…

    OT–DougJ didn’t make the nomination list at Sully’s for the Moore Award of the year. Very sad. Standards are slipping.

    Thanks for spreading the word, Anne Laurie! As he has for all three years of the revival, DougJ was very helpful in obtaining submissions from the BJ community. Picking a “best” Balloon Juice post proved elusive, though. Perhaps the BJ community can suggest one?
