Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

He wakes up lying, and he lies all day.

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

My right to basic bodily autonomy is not on the table. that’s the new deal.

“They all knew.”

Stay strong, because they are weak.

If you voted for Trump, you don’t get to speak about ethics, morals, or rule of law.

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

Giving in to doom is how authoritarians win.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. keep building.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

Consistently wrong since 2002

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Decision time: keep arguing about the last election, or try to win the next one?

Reality always gets a vote in the end.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

When will Chip Kelly formally announce his future failed stint in the NFL?

They were saying on the radio that Kelly doesn’t run traditional position drill practices. They play, film it and then do skull sessions.

If Thomas had turned around and blocked on a play against Stanford, they are probably playing Notre Dame. Alabama should send him thank you cards.

The Czechs upset the Finns at the Women’s Under-18 world ice hockey championships. The Swedes didn’t look that strong, either. With some of the results at Four Nations and at last year’s top level world championships, it’s distressing to see that the the Swedes and Finns are losing ground relative to the US and Canada. The rest of the world is catching up to them, leading to some good competition for bronze medals, but the blowouts at the top are getting worse.

I’m kind of dreading the Sochi Olympics next year. The IOC is itching for a reason to kill women’s hockey at the Games and we need for someone to step up and give a challenge to the North Americans. Sure, it means the committee is a bunch of fucking hypocrites, since they don’t whine about the equally egregious lack of balance in basketball, but that won’t stop them.

@Cacti: Basically you are seeing the last of the powerful Oregon Duck team, if the reports of NCAA sanctions are true. Chip Kelly doing the Pete Carroll shuffle.

People put down the Pac 10 (12) too much. They’ve always seemed pretty good to me. (I live in Jersey & definitely do not have a dog in this fight.)

@Rex Everything: they have been pumping up the SEC against everyone else, but the truth is the SEC teams look comparable to the teams they play from other conferences. Thank you Louisville

@Eric U.: SEC has had a solid five or six years. They pick up Heisman trophies, put their teams in championship games, and win when it counts.

I think the Big 12 would look more respectable if OU and K-State didn’t have a habit of choking in the post-season. Beyond that, there just isn’t enough intra-conference circulation to really get a bead on where different teams stand. A lot of schools – like Baylor and Louiseville – can have break-out seasons that the ESPN guys just don’t notice because they’re too busy fapping to Tim Tebow.

@Zifnab25: The big difference is that in any given year a Louisville or Oklahoma or Texas may be an outstanding team, but they may or may not play against decent competition. IN the SEC, the top teams know they will play at least one NC contender, maybe 2 or 3.

The word all over is that this was Kelly’s last game as Oregon’s head coach. Where do you think he ends up? Will he make it in the NFL, or will he be like Spurrier and return to the college ranks, maybe to replace whoever replaces Lane Kiffin.
