Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

He really is that stupid.

T R E 4 5 O N

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

I’m sure you banged some questionable people yourself.

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

I did not have this on my fuck 2022 bingo card.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

Bark louder, little dog.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Take your GOP plan out of the witness protection program.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Come on, man.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

Watching C-Span just now, I saw Obama sign his first post-inauguration documents. He’s flanked by Reid, Schumer, Biden, Pelosi, Cantor, and Boehner… and dryly says, “I’m sending a few nominations up… which I know will be handled with great dispatch.” The Dems chuckle. Boehner and Cantor just stand there poker-faced and grim.

    What’s at stake?
There are almost too many schemes to list. But President Obama’s worst center around:
It is almost hard to believe the sheer breadth and brazenness of this attempt to gut our Constitution.

@Alison: Uh, I think the point is that the “ballsy” thing was letting his Pokemon evolve last year–yeah, the tide had turned, but it was still a historic moment and it probably moved public opinion and more importantly, perception of the issue.

Bragging it about it later is no surprise if you watched his campaign speeches or looked at the vote totals on the SSM questions nationwide.

Big O is pretty ballsy, but the fact that he was mentioning that issue and not the president before him just highlights what a coward that guy was. The movement brought about that massive change in public opinion and monumental changes in law–Obama is just a very key ally.

I just find it funny that we have a live emoprog here praising Big O on this issue when 2-3 years ago Obama had “broken promises” “done nothing” blah blah blah right before DADT was repealed, and then when it was, DADT repeal was supposed to be “no big deal” despite the considerable institutional hurdles the White House had to overcome to make it reality. You know what? Fuck you, whiners.

I still want to know where the fuck in the USA gas was priced at $1.84 on Jan. 20 of 2009. Where I live, gas is cheaper than just about anywhere else (currently running between 2.99 & 3.04 at most stations) and the lowest it got was about three months after the crash, around Christmas 2008. Even then, it barely dipped below $2.00 and by the end of January 2009, it was back up in the $2.10 – $2.20 range, and as the people who fucked the real estate market rushed into oil speculation, by the middle of that year it had gone up over $2.50 and has never since come back down.

Never mind that before the crash, gas had consistently hovered in the $2.50 – $3.00 range for several years, occassionally shooting up to $4.00 or beyond in some places. It’s like history began on Jan. 20, 2009; it would be pointless to speculate on what things were like in the dark mists of unrecorded history prior to that date.

These jackholes make the Young-Earth Creationists look like deep thinkers.

@Jennifer: Actually, when the market imploded in Sept 2008, commodity prices imploded as well. Average retail price of gas plummeted from $4 to $1.60 in 4 months, and then started to climb again once the stimulus was signed.

With unemployment skyrocketing gas demand plunged, and the mechanics of the commodity markets fell apart in much the same way that the other financial markets fell apart – everyone took their cash out and held onto it, not knowing what the future would bring. By June 2009, gas was back to $2.60 and steadily climbed for the next two years.

So, it’s true, but $1.60 gas wasn’t some great national achievement, rather was yet another measure that the previous administrations had blown up the economy.

If he wants to be in the liberal pantheon beyond the obvious (and very real) accomplishment of becoming the first African American president and some movement on gay rights, the second term will have to be different from the first.

There are entire universes of accomplishments that she not only ignores there, but by leaving them out, discounts all the genuinely great accomplishments the man has managed to make in spite of the all-out hate and jealousy from both the right and the professional left, one of whom is digby. She’s a one-note Debbie Downer. She should take some anti-depressants and get on with her life, which is not exactly filled with near as many liberal accomplishments as the man she so easily dismisses as just an African American who happened to get lucky enough to get elected president and who has move just a bit in the general direction of seeing LGBTs as actual humans. http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/be76d3ca8d/argument-clinic-from-monty-python-from-greatest-comedy-sketches

What they do is pop up here, say something insulting or despicable and then wait for people to respond. Then they masturbate furiously over the attention. You’ll notice the periods of absence after each visit. It takes them time to get the angry inch stiff again. Perhaps they have some pictures cut out of the childerns underwear ads from Target to help them but its the outraged response that gets them off.
