Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

I might just take the rest of the day off and do even more nothing than usual.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

No one could have predicted…

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

You come for women, you’re gonna get your ass kicked.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Do we throw up our hands or do we roll up our sleeves? (hint, door #2)

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

Also, are you sure you want people to rate your comments?

Bad people in a position to do bad things will do bad things because they are bad people. End of story.

So many bastards, so little time.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

The National Guard is not Batman.

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

Fucking consultants! (of the political variety)

We are aware of all internet traditions.

Here’s Joan Jett, the boss hen (and my pal Ravenclaw the Red, who appears to be popping out of JJ’s breast, “Alien”-style):

Joan Jett the Hen

JJ is nice to humans, but she’s pretty mean to her fellow fowl. I mentioned her bullying ways once before, and some of you gently admonished me, saying that JJ was being firm, not a bully. Well, maybe. All I know is I’m glad I don’t have a red comb or neck dooley-bobs for her to pull!

Oh no, they can be bullies. They’ll sometimes kill other chickens if the other is far enough down the pecking order.

We’re at 11 here in NJ.
I would say something very unpleasant to you, but I’m a good girl.
    Oh, and it’s very windy.
    Up to 35 Monday.

ETA I lived around the corner from friends with chickens as a kid. Some were nice, some would peck your ankles.

Boss hen is beautiful but does look very intimidating.

Our two kitties were sitting together on the window ledge inside were having a stare down with a deer at our bird feeders outside not ten feet away. I wish I had had my camera handy. The kitties moved just a little and that was enough to scare the deer off.

Professional (as in well-compensated to be so) climate sorta-denialist Bjorn Lomborg is still practicing his craft, this time in the always reliable WSJ.

As for one of the favorites of alarmism, hurricanes in recent years don’t indicate that storms are getting worse. Measured by total energy (Accumulated Cyclone Energy), hurricane activity is at a low not encountered since the 1970s. The U.S. is currently experiencing the longest absence of severe landfall hurricanes in over a century—the last Category 3 or stronger storm was Wilma, more than seven years ago.

You Sandy “victims” are just sissies, because your storm was Category nuttin’.

To be a basenji in my house is to be harassed 24 hours a day by top basenji, and chairman of the committee on un-basenji-like activities, Shiva. 14 years old and still the bossiest creature on god’s green earth.

@Tlazolteotl: But neck dooley bobs has so much more charm than the technical name. Australorps are gorgeous in their iridesecense. Boss hens iz mean. But you know that.

Oh, and snake infested pit populated with lunatics as a home state is the price you pay for warm winters. But you know that too.

Be careful of your soil. Test for lead. A lot of urban and suburban chicken eggs are known to carry unhealthy amounts of lead.

Poor Sen. Johnson of Wisconson. Yetserday Hillary handed him his but and today John Kerry handed him his head. Seems Sen. Johnson was complaining at the confirmation hearings that he had many questions about what happened in Bengahzi. Kerry asked him if he had atteneded the intel. briefing with the video tapes. The good sentaor said no he hadn’t. To which Sen. Kerry suggested he tart attending the meetings.
‘Kerry: I think it was very clear… were you at the briefing with the tapes?
    Johnson: No.
Kerry: Well, there was a briefing with tapes, which we all saw—those of us who went to it—uh, which made it crystal clear. We sat for several hours with our intel folks, who described to us precisely what we were seeing. We saw all of the events unfold. We had a very complete and detailed description.’

Maybe one of your chickens could give Sen. Johnson some help

    Proceed, Senator
