Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“More of this”, i said to the dog.

This really is a full service blog.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

The willow is too close to the house.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Everybody saw this coming.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

Infrastructure week. at last.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

After roe, women are no longer free.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

From commentor Jacy:

I wanted to ask a favor for a friend and the pet help charity that she runs. It’s a tiny non-profit run by six volunteers that helps people in trouble keep their pets when faced with foreclosure, financial difficulties, or catastrophic illness by providing food, supplies, veterinary care, and pet fostering. They also help with disaster relief (the recent Colorado fires) and help the elderly adopt pets. They’ve undergone some tough times lately and are holding their biggest fundraiser this weekend. Every penny goes to providing food and services, with the volunteers providing the other operating costs. I’d be ever so grateful if you could put up a post to let the Balloon Juice community know about them and perhaps lend a hand. Susan Branham, one of the board, has been my best friend for nearly 20 years and she’s a good egg — she about killed herself doing GOTV for Obama in Colorado this past fall in addition to helping keep the Pet Food Pantry afloat, and I’d love to give her a little extra help. They have a website that takes PayPal and has more info on their good works. I’ve also attached some pictures. Here’s the info she sent me:

The Pet Food Pantry for Teller County (Colorado) was started in 2009 to help struggling people in our tiny county of 23,000 with an 8% poverty rate. The assistance we provide keeps many dogs and cats out of shelters allowing them to stay in their homes with the people they love.
In 2012 we helped over 420 local families by providing such needs as: blankets, pet coats, beds, kennels, toys, bowls, treats, canned food, and most importantly 26,000 pounds of dry dog and cat food.

As a 501(c)3 non-profit, we operate entirely on donations and the volunteer efforts of our 6-member, working Board of Directors. Each week we set up a three-hour, outdoor distribution site to serve our clients who quickly become our friends. Not a week goes by without tremendous gratitude and little miracles. We’re animal people, and though Colorado throws all sorts of weather at us we are never deterred from our mission of caring for our neighbors and their beloved pets.

This Saturday, February 2nd, the Pet Food Pantry will hold our 4th Annual Beach Party, our biggest fundraiser of the year. If you would like to donate, please visit our website at www.petfoodpantrytc.com or visit and like us on Facebook. All donations are tax deductible and greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much for posting this, Anne Laurie.

That’s Susan in the first picture, my best friend of nearly 20 years and an unrepentant liberal who donates all her energy to democratic causes and animal welfare. She just adopted her fifth rescue dog, and she works tirelessly to make life better for every being on the planet. Any donation will be tremendously appreciated and help more than you can know.

I’m impressed by the lady in the first picture who is out in the snow wearing only the white sweater. They must be a hardy breed out there in Colorado.

Looks like a great org indeed. Such a wonderful thing to help people keep their pets. And helping a strong Obama supporter who does that fabulous work is the easiest of no brainers.

My DH got his longevity pay this month so we have a little bit of extra money to throw around. I am happy to pass some to this organization no matter how small it is.

I understand that there has to be ads on this site to keep it free for all of us but can anyone explain to me why I have to get close ups of Russian women’s tits every damn day? I mean come on.

Fucking PayPal wouldn’t let me make a donation, I apparently already have an account with them, except I don’t. I hate PayPal with a passion. I’ll just go to their website, get an address, and mail a check the old fashioned way.

What a great organization. Thanks for the bleg.

WOW! You guys are so kind to help our tiny organization, many grateful thank yous to you all. @Jacy is a pretty darn swell gal in her own right and she’s kept my psychic train on the rails plenty of times over the years. This latest kindnesns will benefit more sweetl animals than you can imagine: We can stretch a dollar ’til it screams.
Just finished up the baking for the bake sale portion of our event tomorrow, and the basket-making for the silent auction. What fun! If any of you are within rock-tossing distance of 80863, come join pus for the party. If not, your kind words, good thoughts, and generous assistance will keep you with us in spirit. You really are helping us quash hunger and save lives. Thank you Balloon Juice and Anne Laurie, dear Jacy and all of you!

Since y’all are opening up your wallets. I do have a pet charity that I would like to call attention to.

    http://www.idaindia.org/

We are a direct beneficiary of these people who feed and take care of all the stray animals in and around my grandparent’s neighborhood. We had a dog, who died about two years ago who was regularly taken care of.

I’ll try to write to Anne about this organization and at least give you the face of the dog who was a direct beneficiary of their love and dedication.
