Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Battle won, war still ongoing.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

Consistently wrong since 2002

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Bark louder, little dog.

If you are still in the GOP, you are an extremist.

The revolution will be supervised.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

Hot air and ill-informed banter

“woke” is the new caravan.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

@Corner Stone: It’s like they added a caching plugin that ran amok.

There appeared to be a synching problem in the upper right quadrant. Perhaps two squirrels on different sides?

    @Corner Stone: Swan dress?

People have commented about it on other threads. I am getting the impression that Chrome is where most of the problems are showing up. I am on FF and haven’t noticed anything odd.

@Omnes Omnibus: I’m on FF and it’s whack, yo.
Everytime it loads it displays back to Cole’s Open Thread from last night and my credenzas are missing to post a comment.
I haven’t had time to osmosis all the threads as I normally do.

@Corner Stone: Same here on FF 18.0.1 on Win7 — I had to clear cache this morning to see new BJ posts, but it’s still not loading up new posts even with Shift-Refresh. I’m on Chrome right now.

Here let me update to 18.0.2 —

Please hold. Your attention is important to us! …

Nope, still caching like a mofo on 18.0.2. I have NoScript installed, so maybe that’s it.

    February 7, 2013 at 12:43 pm

I had to allow libsyn.com and specificlick.net to make things refresh even a little better. Got the Marley post but not this one. Now even manual clearing of cache doesn’t work.

    Matthew Reid Krell

    February 7, 2013 at 12:47 pm

So, last week the Arkansas Court of Appeals issued an opinion in a case where I ghost-wrote the brief. While reading the opinion, I get this odd feeling that I’ve seen this before. Go back and re-read the brief – damn, they plagiarized me!

(For those who don’t know: in the practice of law, plagiarism is the highest compliment a court can pay you. It says that you were so right, the judge couldn’t come up with a better way to say it.)

Plot twist: when I submitted this brief to the lawyer whose name went on it, he thought it was so bad that he refused to pay me and when I insisted on payment, refused to send me any more work for three months. He claimed he’d had to completely rewrite the brief. In unrelated news, I no longer accept work from this lawyer.

    @Omnes Omnibus:

    I am using 10.0.2.

Jeez, what is that, from the late ’80s?!

I just upgraded to 18.0.2 yesterday, and this site is running fine for me. The only minor disruption in the Force I have seen is that it has forgotten my nym and e-mail address.

@MikeJ: Firefox was on 17.0.1 (!!) on my Mac, but it was stuck on Marley, too. Updated to 18.0.2 and it’s the same problem.

    So it’s not NoScript.

    OK on Windows: Chrome
    OK on Mac: Safari, Chrome

Hosed on Windows 7: IE9, Firefox
    Hosed on Mac: Firefox

Looks like something fuxxored on the WP end of things.

The more I read about Sally Jewell–Obama’s nominee for Interior Secretary–the more I love her.

If confirmed, President Obama’s nominee for secretary of the Interior, Sally Jewell, wouldn’t be the first woman to hold the position, but she would break the mold in plenty of other ways. Like, she must be the first cabinet member to have climbed the highest mountain in Antarctica, living in a tent for 29 days in January on what she told the Indianapolis Star was “a little sabbatical,” right? A mother of two and consummate outdoorswoman, Jewell is vice chairman of the National Parks Conservation Association, but otherwise has no political experience. However, with a long career that spans the masculine realms of oil, banking, and corporate boardrooms, it’s hard to imagine she would feel out of place in Obama’s cabinet, no matter how many white dudes he appoints.

And what I do read is damn crass. Article in today’s paper noted how this should help Netflix because they’ll somehow magically save money by only paying postage five days a week instead of six. I don’t really understand how they drew that conclusion, but it’s the pathology of “every cut to government is a good cut.”

Apropos of nothing in particular, it occurred to me last night that the Jack the Ripper creature from that original Star Trek episode “Wolf in the Fold” would be ideal GOP candidate in 2013.

All you’d have to do is stand him up and he’d scream “No, no, kill you all, die, make you suffer!” And he’d win every Republican primary in a landslide.
