Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Fight them, without becoming them!

The fight for our country is always worth it. ~Kamala Harris

Every reporter and pundit should have to declare if they ever vacationed with a billionaire.

Just because you believe it, that does not make it true.

There are times when telling just part of the truth is effectively a lie.

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

We will not go quietly into the night; we will not vanish without a fight.

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires.

People really shouldn’t expect the government to help after they watched the GOP drown it in a bathtub.

I might just take the rest of the day off and do even more nothing than usual.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Stop using mental illness to avoid talking about armed white supremacy.

It’s a good piece. click on over. but then come back!!

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

In my day, never was longer.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

Not sure if you all bothered to watch Woodward on Hannity, but what happened there tonight was the journalistic equivalent of “Two Guys One Cup.” If Brent Bozell had any consistency, he’d be demanding the FCC fine Fox news for showing fellatio during primetime tv.

Oh, never mind. I see everyone else on the blog watched, too.

And yes, I am kidding.

The fact that Woodward reduced himself to appear on Hannity speaks volumes about the whole situation. One, there were no other outlets willing to allow Woodward to continue pushing his facile stupidity and two the enormous vanity of Woodward would not even prevent him from participating on the Sham Show, even though Bob has to know the credibility hit he would take by appearing on that program.

I dont feel sorry for Bob Woodward, but even he must be feeling totally irrelevant that noone would take his call but Sean Hannity. Sticking his finger up his own anus on live TV would have represented greater dignity than appearing on the Sean Hannity show; Bob knows this and STILL went forward.

It really is sad to see what narcissism can reduce people to

Woodward thinks the media should ask Obama about Bill Ayers(Think Progress):

During his interview with Sean Hannity, Woodward claimed that he had been “roughed up” by Sperling and agreed with the host’s characterization of the Washington journalists as liberals who are disinterested in challenging the president with Bill Ayers, an education advocate who was part of the group the Weather Underground.

I think I discovered Barbara Stanwyck as I was getting in to old movies with Double Indemnity, and there was the dad from My Three Sons as a villain. Who knew? I think my favorite Stanwyck movie is The Lady Eve. I love Preston Sturges, and in that he has two of my favorite character actor from the big studios. I can’t think of their names, but Stanwyck’s father, and most especially Jimmy Stewart’s. That first scene of his where he comes down the stairs singing, and then tries to get breakfast on the porch is one of my favorite comedy scenes.

re this woodward stuff — It’s revealing that the psychodramas of famous dullards have the power to transfix Washington, but no one there pays any attention to the millions of people who’ve been out of work for years.

Right now, Bob Woodward is being mocked by his own co-worker at the Washington Post. So far, this has been a storm in a teacup. But Woodward’s identified with the Post’s biggest journalistic feat, he’s very senior, and as Post employees go he draws a very big salary; and he’s just gone and made a fool of himself in public. I could understand if the Post’s management isn’t really on his side in this. In fact, I wonder how much longer he’ll stay at the Post.
