I’m sure you’ll be hard pressed to believe that I found this song on a Spotify playlist called “Hipster International”. Here’s an open thread.

Let the pope fluffing begin! He’s humble! He’ll promote the life of the mind! He prays to Mary! He’s a breath of fresh air! He cares about the poor! I’m sure our media will focus any minute now on his relationship with the junta, amirite?

No love for Scott Prouty? Fellow Masshole. I knew a guy named Prouty back in the day. Even looked like our friend Scott. Maybe related, dunno.

Meanwhile, the WFMU pledge drive with Yo La Tengo murderating all sorts of things is running NOW. It’s usually in the evening, but YLT are in Germany on tour, so on their day off, they’re holed up in a studio with a German engineer.

WFMU home page (with streams at top and links for pledging)

Live setlist on Google docs shows what they’ve covered so far

And just for you, Francis, a little Monochrome Set.

Beyond the “Government trips over itself” point-of-view of the ariticle, it does seem odd that having a condom is proof of loitering for the purposes of prostitution.

I saw a crawl on the tv this morning that Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood criticized a UN report that aims to end violence against women and girls saying it is a deception. I thought, how ironic that our own wingnuts fought against renewing the violence against women act here. One item in Muslim Brotherhood’s 10 point critique is that the UN document seeks to destroy the family institution. Could any of our msm ace reporters please ask Marsha Blackburn, Cantor and all the rest of the 138 or so Republicans who voted against the VAWA how they are different from the Muslim Brotherhood? I particularly wish they would pile on the most islamophobic members. Stupid question, won’t happen.

Dear music industry: sweep filtering the vocals is no longer novel — enough.

In the meantime… people keep asking me, “What is a hipster nowadays?” Because everyone seems to be over-using to mean, “Any person younger than I am who seems to be having more fun with their life than I am.” Now, instead of doing a bunch of tedious explaining, I can just show them this video and be done.
