    I’ve heard many Republicans express the same or very similar sentiments, and they don’t think they’re being racist. They think they’re just being factual, and if you try to point out the double standard (they don’t hold the white race accountable for crimes committed by some white people), it just does not compute with them.

    Pointing out the difference, a crime that black kids will go to jail for versus “stand your ground” defense where the white guy was the inciter and could very well walk, is useless. La, la, la.

    I finally figured out that the archetype American apocalypse story (you know, civilization breaks down, streets are filled with roaming blahs zombies, aliens, Cubans, or North Koreans) with an oppressive outsider government comes directly from the end of the Civil War and Reconstruction in the South. Really, the fall-of-civilization dystopia is an American obsession and thinking about it as transgenerational trauma from the destruction of CSA and their peculiar institution just fits many puzzling pieces together. To me anyway, maybe this is old hat to everybody.

    They are still fighting the Civil War.

    I followed the link to the story from TP and there’s definitely something weird. I don’t know if it’s a misidentification on the part of the mother/eyewitness or if the kid’s family is covering up for him or something else, but the facts available right now don’t add up.

    Somebody in the comments of the newspaper linked to a story that had the baby’s father blaming the mother for walking through that neighborhood so, yeah, something’s up.

    Let’s be real. The “Stand Your Ground” law is really just a “Legally Shoot Black People and everyone else we hate” law. And the biggest proof is that even though it’s not written explicitly into the rules, it seems like only white people can use that defense. No one else.
