Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Battle won, war still ongoing.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

“I never thought they’d lock HIM up,” sobbed a distraught member of the Lock Her Up Party.

A last alliance of elves and men. also pet photos.

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

You can’t love your country only when you win.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

I was confident that someone would point it out and thought why not me.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Doing some housecleaning, at the request of the blogmaster, and found this. Yes, Paisley got to perform this at the White House, too.

What’s on the agenda for the evening?

I don’t know whose agenda this is part of, but it’s unwelcome.

When a user approaches the urinal, the video console flips into gaming mode, using technology that detects both his presence and stream. Algorithms then allow the user to engage with the screen by aiming in different directions to test their agility and knowledge. […] High scores will be displayed in real-time across various videoboard displays within Coca-Cola Park.

So the LA Galaxy visited the White House today. So I assume that Beckham will also be there. I really hate when someone objectifies the opposite sex, so I’m ready to admit that in this case I’m a big ole hypocrite, particularly after seeing these pics of Becks.

um okay…wow! I luv me some David Beckham, but DAMN these pants are too “toi-oh-ght”. I feel like I’ve asked this question before, but seriously, guys, how the hell can you even wear underwear with pants so tight. I agree with the headline though, these damn pants are tailored to within an inch of there life!

A Very Important Thank You Note To David Beckham’s Tailor

As a connoisseur of the athletic male bottom, I really appreciate Mr Beckhanm’s tailor.

    I know, I know, I’m a hypocrite.

New server is being slow (and crashed for about 15 minutes there)…not cool!

On the bright side, my 2-day week has come to an end. Going to enjoy this 5-day mental break from work, as well as a long weekend in Chicago. Going to enjoy it (and all the delicious food we have planned)…

I should say that I am very, very heartened by all the red equal signs showing up on my Facebook feed. I do have more liberal friends to begin with, but it’s a great sign to see how many young people these days are down for the cause of marriage equality. Good on my generation for pushing this change faster than it ever would have come otherwise.

And are there any random population of Juicers that would have interest in a meetup the 2nd weekend of May? My fiancee is out of town for business for several days, and I’m contemplating flying somewhere random for kicks.

Hell the national championship game wasn’t even on the Ocho! A big part of that is that the NCAA owns the rights & both the Big10 network and Fox Sports made bids to broadcast the game but it was not enough money for the NCAA I guess.

Seriously though – the game was sold out & as we went in a guy asked us if we had an extra ticket. He told us a scalper offered him an SRO ticket for $200! The press is reporting several people asking $150.

True, it was an unusual situation, an undefeated team, playing in their home town, in a rink with too small a capacity. But there was plenty of interest.

The championship game was a very good game, BU is the third best team in the nation no doubt, but Friday’s game against BC (the second best team in the country) should be seen by anyone who enjoys hockey or even if they would just like to see why people love hockey.

I was actually curious because a few days after that, I saw a web site that had interviewed a bespoke tailor- not the guy who made Craig’s suits, but one who clearly knew his business- about how you would go about making suits for James Bond. I wouldn’t ordinarily have read it, but the discussion here of the very high crotch on Daniel Craig’s pants was still fresh enough in my mind that I was interested in what the guy had to say. Interestingly, he brought that up himself without the interviewer pointing it out, saying that if you wanted to be able to do martial arts kicks, you’d need to have pants that were cut that way. So the cut was probably functional and not made for purely aesthetic reasons.

@Roger Moore: That’s a bold claim, as I really like the Chinese food that San Fran has to offer. I have a soft spot in my heart for LA, as I grew up a few hours away and went to the general area not too infrequently.

@geg6: Funny how Cole went to Austin for a meetup but has never dragged his ass up to Pittsburgh (at least that we are publicly told of).

@MikeJ: I would like to. It’s not for a couple of months, but I think I can probably convince my fiancee that a few post-dinner drinks never hurt nobody…

    @Yutsano:

Koda AND Otis kisses. PsiFighter37 would have fun in the ‘Burgh and I don’t mind having a cocktail or two. We have loads of room for guests and if he gets lonely for his fiancee, Koda loves to cuddle in bed.

@Josie: I’ve been using a Mac all day with no trouble. I must have missed the 15 min. thing. The only issue I’ve had since the changeover is that the page won’t scroll down as far as the submit comment button initially but if I scroll up, then back down all is well.

@lamh35: I’m looking forward to Gatsby, Monsters Inc. 2, kick ass 2 and Now you see me. I’m wondering about the Robert Redford movie as well.

    @PsiFighter37:

That’s a bold claim, as I really like the Chinese food that San Fran has to offer.

The SGV has the largest ethnic Chinese population in the USA, and it’s strongly reflected in the local culture. People around here know what great, authentic Chinese food is like, and they demand it from the local restaurants. I’ve heard a number of people (including Chinese coworkers) claim that the food here is actually better than it is in China, primarily because there are better ingredients available here.

I’m trying to figure out what my household income will look like now that Obama has signed the continuing resolution.

I’ve heard that the CR maintains the sequester to the end of FY2013, but I don’t see that when I read the summary.

Hopefully somebody will make a nice accurate table or chart that will go viral on FB. As best as I can figure, we’re looking at either no change (no salary increase but no pay cut, either), an effective 10% cut (2 days a month on furlough), or an effective 20% cut (4 days a month on furlough).

Meh, don’t really care. Something cheap and recognizable.

@Just Some Fuckhead: Sotto Mare is a very hearty and delicious old-school Italian restaurant on Telegraph Hill. I had me the smoked salmon fettucine, which was as boss a dish as I’ve ever had. The risotto is also amazing.

@lamh35: the company you keep. Robert plays a 60s radical outed by by a reporter. The plus is Robert Redford. The minus is Shia whatshisname.

I’ll probably see superman and Star Trek. I liked Red 1, so maybe Red 2. It’s kind of sequally out there.

Movies I’m not seeing: 300 2, that Tom cruise movie. Smurfs 2, and after earth.

@Original Lee: Right now they’re planning one day per pay period of furlough for us. If that happens I want them all on Fridays or Mondays. Let the poor guy not have access to his bank account while I take a long weekend enjoying border collie kisses and playing with horses.
