ETA: Seriously, I’m not sure what sort of time is involved when the next thread goes from pooping on the previous thread to peeing on it to hacking a loogie on it to farting in its general direction.
Holy shit, this just describes my last three hours with my mortgage servicer over why they can’t seem to turn around my final check on our roof damage claim. The process is asinine – you get your initial homeowners check when your roofer is engaged, but it isn’t for the whole amount – there’s a depreciation involved. The work gets finished, then you can (like we did) pay the remainder including the deductible, and then get a recapture check for the amount of the recapture less the deductible. That check is paid to the order of you and your mortgage company as “loss payee” On your policy. You stuff the check in an envelope and send it to your mortgage servicer; long as you’re current and the check is under 10K, most mortgage companies will turn it around without an inspection.
In my case, I mailed it March 11. I waited until March 21 to check on the progress and they told me it had been turned around the day before. Tuesday I call, looking for my check, and concerned about the notion that it was snatched from the box. They tell me then that it had not been mailed to us on March 20, but instead on March 22, the day after I first called, and they were flummoxed as to why I was told what I was told on March 21. It didn’t arrive yesterday, and when it didn’t arrive today, I worked through the digital menu to eat ass. I was told that the mail will take 7 to 10 business days from the day of mailing to reach me. I was further crisply advised that there were no supervisors available to speak with me, and they were pretty nonchalant on the notion that I might ever hear from one. Eventually, I got somebody in a management position at USAA Bank (the actual loan holder) to take notice, and I’m promised some white hot management to management contact with the lying douchebags at the loan servicer. We’ll see. It won’t make my check arrive faster, but at least some misery will be spread.
Several men with assault rifles and hand guns crashed a Mayor’s Against Illegal Guns National Day to Demand Action event in Indianapolis, Indiana on Thursday and stood silently as the state chapter of Moms Demand Action held a rally in favor of limiting the availability of military style weapons and universal background checks.
At least two or three men showed up at the rally site before the event began and engaged in a discussion about gun regulations with the group, two participants in the action told ThinkProgress. The armed men — who were later joined by another man carrying a hand gun and a woman who runs Indiana Moms Against Gun Control — insisted that they had a right to carry the loaded weapon[…]: A member of Moms Demand Action said that she felt unsettled by their presence and said that the organizers would have to think twice before holding another event, particularly one where children could be present.
I found this looking for the story about Mike Lee’s proposal that any gun legislation in the Senate would require a 2/3 supermajority, which motion got all Republican votes but one (mark Kirk) and several Democratic votes, a total of fifty.
I don’t want to come off as spamming, but any Juicers in LA who would be up for a meetup on the evening of either May 10 or May 11? I’m not in town long, but I always enjoy meeting up with political-oriented folks I’ve met on the intertubes…if there is interest, my email is below (spelled out to avoid spambots)…
And if so, I’m happy to hand out my email here, just want to make sure it’s something that would interest the masses.

You know what would make big footing other people’s threads even cooler? Letting FP’ers lock previous threads, so you have to only comment on the current thread topic and the previous ones become off limits.
I think that’d set up the fierce rivalry needed to make sure we only get the best blog content possible.
@Studly Pantload, the emotionally unavailable unicorn:

How about, once a new thread is posted, the one that receives the most comments in the 15 minutes following remains open, while the other one gets closed. That way they need to entice us into commenting.

This made me think fondly of my husband’s attempts this week to get his W2 from NBC/Universal. It took all day, but the highlight was when, after being told by several people to send his request to a main mailbox (it kept getting bounced back) he finally talked to someone who said, “Oh… yeah… that mailbox hasn’t been working for awhile.”
He also found that they still had our old address. He’d changed it last year, but I guess they didn’t believe him and changed it back.
We used to have Time Warner. I still walk by their service center on 96th Street and sigh with satisfaction that they are no longer our provider. Though I do kind of miss dreamy Pat Kiernan on my teevee.

TWO WEEKS
That inflamed anus from Michigan has only 14 days left to keep his promise:
@Jennifer: TWC is also a provider of high-level business-class Internet services and what’s called, in the business, “transit”, in a lot of NYC. If you think you’re getting crappy service for a hundred bucks a month, I can assure you that you have no idea the shit you’ll get if you’re paying in the (many) thousands. At every interaction you’re left wondering how a company that incompetent could possibly stay in business.
Not for nothing, but what is this phenomenon where people declare and post images, videos, etc of themselves in the act of doing blatantly illegal things.
I’m on FB (mostly befriending family and close friends) and I have never had the urge to post things like that on public consumption. Is this a new phenomenon? And how does it affect law enforcement and prosecution of some of these things?
How about, once a new thread is posted, the one that receives the most comments in the 15 minutes following remains open, while the other one gets closed. That way they need to entice us into commenting.
You are totally onto something. ’bout time the free market got some respect around here.
To take it a step further, there should then be a caste system established amongst the FPers, whereby the ones who get the most comments are the Brahmins, and the least the Untouchables. Brahmins get unlimited stomping privileges.

@Jennifer: I’ve never had a big complaint about Comcast, per se, although Mrs. Pantload and I did recently scale back our cable to the basic-basic package, which is the local broadcast stations plus some this’n’that from cableland, such Comedy Central, FX, and what-not. Oh, and we also get one of the cable news channels. And what do you suppose the proud new owner of NBC/Universal, who now features the NBC logo on their own website for Noodle’s sake, offers as that one cable news channel?
If you said Fox News, you may qualify for a job with Comcast!

So I literally have a time Warner guy here now. I showed him the video and he is cracking up. As he is here fixing my Internet I get a call from time Warner saying. ” we are sorry but your technician cannot make it today can we reschedule for Friday”. ARE YOU FRIGGIN KIDDING ME. WE are laughing so hard but in reality it’s just sad.

(A) toxic or poisonous chemicals or their precursors;
